Sailed with her for some time, in 1996. Still beautiful as i Remember (maybe better, cause she had a lot of restoration work done during this long time) those Hatch lead to living quarters and mess halls for the crew and cadets (3 big rooms for cadets, with tables and anchor points for hammocks... Yes, we slept on hammocks 😂) obviously there are also all sorts of technicals spaces down there! And yes, the bells are still used nowaday, the ship time is marked by bell sound, and the number of bell sounds change the meaning. For example, every 15 minutes, during night cruising, a single bell sound call for a voice report from crew on watch duty, 2 of them placed on Flying bridges...1 on bow and 1 stern, Reporting also for the good working of the ship navigation lights within sight of your sector. Traditions!

Thank you! My understanding that the naming of the Americas was a mistake by the cartographer who created the first map of this unnamed land mass. @@JasmineApple Ciao. It's not really like that. In his letters Amerigo Vespucci described the mainland he visited as a "New World" and was the first to realize that he was in the presence of a new continent. The other explorers thought it was India or the extreme part of Asia. It was the rapid diffusion of the letters circulated in his name that led the German cartographer Martin Waldseemüller to use the feminine gender (America) of his Latinized name (Americus Vespucius), to indicate the new continent in a map of the world drawn in 1507, contained in the Cosmographiae Introductio. The German Waldseemüller's idea was that the name referred to present-day South America, that is, to the lands touched by Vespucci. Who wrote: «Now, however, these parts have been more fully examined, and another fourth part has been discovered by Amerigo Vespucci (as will be said later), therefore I do not see why anyone should rightly prohibit its discoverer, a man of sagacious genius, to call it Amerigen or America, so to speak, the land of Amerigo, when the names assigned both to Europe and to Asia are feminine.»

Dear Jasmine thank you for honouring our Country by paying a visit to the Vespucci. Please forget some stupid comment about pronounciation. As you probably knows the internet is full of people that urgently needs to get a life. I'm sorry that you did'nt find on board anyone that could speak english. I find it pretty weird.
