  • So I drove on down into Georgia to fish with my man Blake / @g2go_outdoors
We fished for speckled trout with shrimp near Savannah, Georgia. I had a blast trying something new and catching my first saltwater fish.

I still remember catching Speckled Trout in South Alabama. I would love to go back and catch some more. Occasionally I would hook into a Redfish, but the sea trout were my favorites.I enjoyed this little video because it is something different, but also because it brought back some memories. Nice footage, and cool looking fish, thanks for sharing.

Nice vid John. I love that inshore saltwater fishing shrimp are to saltwater as nightcrawlers are to fresh water. BTW when the bite slows down, pop that cork. It sounds like a fish feeding on shrimp. Pretend it's a Chugbug or a PopR.

A couple of things...first of all, you should 'pop' that cork, much like working a topwater - it simulates trout and redfish 'popcorning' shrimp on the surface. Secondly, if you want to do some serious saltwater fishing like this, come to Louisiana. We have the most productive inshore saltwater fishery in this country, and perhaps the world. When most people here speak of fishing, they mean going out in the marsh to get an ice chest full of specks and reds. I was into it too for a long time - it's awesome, but you have to fool with a boat, gas, ice, etc....it becomes an all day adventure.

Had I known you were headed to southeast Georgia, I could have hooked you up with my parents .... we catch redfish, seatrout, flounder off their floating dock ... in the winter you can add blackdrum ... in the summer you can add bluefish, undersized cobia (rare), catfish ... mixed bag ... try the "Slayer Lure Inc SST soft plastics" if you go saltwater again ... they work well in sweetwater... I really like them Venice Glow, Camo, Bounty Hunter, Gumbo, Electric Chicken, White, Baby bass are all good colors ... I think the Venice Glow, Camo, Gumbo look like mud minnows ... I have caught a ton of fish on the Venice Glow ... they have a website and available at Academy Sports ... Can't go wrong with Burkley Gulp Shrimp in the 3 inch size ... New Penny, Natural, Molting ... in that order

Glad to see your introduction to Saltwater fishing and saltwater trout no less, the primary fish of my youth. They are a beautiful fish, too bad you didn’t keep one to cook and try for yourself. I kind of get the feeling that you prefer catching to eating and it’s every man for himself.
My other observation was that if catching is your passion, you need to size your gear a little closer for the weight of the fish. It’s much more exciting to me to play a 2 lb fish on 4 lb test and a smaller and more flexible rod. That’s just me. As an old man, I regret that I didn’t understand and look into world records for each species on lighter equipment, you never know. One thing that I do know from watching your channel is that all in all you have better luck at easy public access fishing sites than I ever did and I hope it continues for y, but I would like to see you learn to play the fish and learn to enjoy the battle as much or more than the count of landing fish unless you are feeding a bunch of people and cooking hush puppies along with coleslaw and peach cobbler for desert.

      Creek Fishing Adventures
That is fantastic. Glad you enjoyed it. I fished a different way on the west coast of Florida. We had a shallow bay that might be 8’ in the deep parts. We would go into the wind for a mile or two and let the wind serve as our trolling motor and we would drift and cast shrimp with no weight as we drifted across the eel grass flats that had she, crab, and scollops that supported the spotted trout, reddish and flounder. Some of my memories are of the water being as smooth as glass and dissolving into the horizon. We tackled the Gulf of Mexico with a 12’ aluminum boat with a 10 horsepower Mercury motor that you had to wrap the pull cord on with 3 flotation seat pads. I also experienced fishing the bay at night on a full moon 🌕 and you need to see a full moon rise on the Gulf, it’s like standing or sitting in a telescope looking at the surface of another planet.
      LOL
