Its been a fascinating insight into Germany's Uboat war against allied shipping .
The thing I would have been interested in was their thoughts of Germany's war on being informed of the Holocaust, camps and outright racial cleansing of vast numbers of European civilians.

They didn't have to be 'informed'. They all knew. A million German soldiers & civilians were involved in rounding up Jews & loading them onto trains, and in Russia shooting them by the thousand into pits, and of running the work camps & death camps, and the sorting & distribution of Jewish clothes, furniture, property, & money. Every one of those people had wives, fathers, mothers, girlfriends, friends ... and no-one in the world can keep such secrets. They all knew. They were all complicit.
Why do u think thousands of Germans committed suicide when the war finished? Because they knew they were all complicit. Why did hundreds of thousands of Germans flee to surrender to the British or Americans when the Russians approached? Because they all knew what the Germans did in Russia. Why did this Naval person fear being held captive by the French - because he knew of the tens of thousands of French men deported from France to Germany to work as slaves.
Every German knew. It was one of the things that kept them fighting to the end - and they all knew that retribution was coming.

@@gordonbennet1094 I hadn't really considered that from the point of view of Eastern Europe in particular and you're absolutely right. I was thinking more from the U boat crews who were far more removed from the horrors being perpetrated by the Gestapo, SS and certain elements of the Wermacht.

@@SJG1957 You still haven't got it. Hitler made dozens of speeches during the 1930's calling Jews parasites and virmin who must be destroyed. And all of Germany witnessed and participated in the burning down of synagogues, the smashing and looting ofJewish shops, and Jews being dragged out of their houses and herded down the streets and into cattle wagons. It was a mass exercise in persecution carried out quite publicly over many years. Now we have fools like you who say, ''Oh, but surely naval personel didn't know about it.' Of course they knew. They all knew. They were all complicit.

Interesting/informative/entertaining. Excellent photography picture of the U-Boat. I venture to guess that's the one heading ( S.W. ) to Argentina -??? 😲. Admiral doughnuts 🍩 was the cause of the death of those U-Boat. Crewman.😇😇😇😇. Final resting place. " King 👑Neptune " grave yards.Remember his arrogant disposition not believing Bletchley park broke the enigma code -??? The Captain lucked out with his walking papers. Along with a hearty " good bye & good luck ". " Don't loose those papers -!!! ". 😉.

Post war, French soldiers were worse to prisoners than Nazi POW camps. Werner had incredible survival skills and wasn't a Nazi but an idealistic patriot.

I don't feel sorry for this man or these men. He complains, indignant almost about his treatment and the state of Germany, passing over the fact that the Germans until almost the end killed and destroyed with not bar. My mother lost her father killed, he serving in the Royal Navy; my father homeless and a war refugee after his homeland was invaded and most of his own family killed or died of starvation. He would be a displaced person (as were millions of others) for years after the war, his homeland now a Soviet satellite. Millions of slave laborers, concentration camp inmates, the deliberate starvation and killing of Russians, Jews, Poles and many others. People, cites and nations ruined and destroyed by the Germans under Hitler and the Germans indignant about their treatment at the hands of the Western allies?

While it's understandable to harbor resentment towards those responsible for immense suffering during wartime, it's crucial to recognize that individual experiences of suffering are not mutually exclusive. Just because one group endured horrific atrocities doesn't invalidate the pain and suffering experienced by others. The fact that someone else's ancestors perpetrated atrocities doesn't diminish the validity of their descendants' feelings or experiences.
Each person's story and trauma are unique and deserving of empathy and understanding. It's possible to acknowledge the atrocities committed by the Germans under Hitler while also acknowledging the injustices experienced by individuals who may have been affected by different conflicts or circumstances. Compassion and empathy are not finite resources; they can and should be extended to all who have suffered, regardless of their background or nationality.

Something is not right here. There was a uboat bunker in Bergen, and major repairs were carried out there, uboats from Kristiansand and Trondheim were sent to Bergen for major repairs.

The villainy of the sadists and fanatics lived on after Hitler’s suicide. He was too frightened to face combat with the Red Army and instead shot himself sitting on a sofa in a basement. His wife committed suttee next to him.

After WW2 ended for more than 80 years the British/French/American always never stop their misinformation/propaganda about nomal German soldiers in WW2.

In what sense? I agree that the individual bravery & dedication to the cause is admirable, but precipitating the death and misery of tens of millions in the pursuit of a grotesque and inhuman goal is hardly ‘great’.

I've listened to a few of these U-Boat commander's memoirs by WW2 MEMOIRS. They are as shocking and riveting as any WW2 story I have read seen or heard. Well-produced too, even though I think they are read by an A.I. avatar, but that makes little difference to the experience. Who is the author?
