    MISLEADING TITLE: this is completely dependent upon where you live. Here in California if you want to ride a SurRon completely legally, get the electronic power pedal kit from kaniwaba, keep it under 29mph, and wear any DOT approved helmet. Now you are officially a Class 3 e-bike! You now have the law on your side and can ride freely without worry, HOWEVER pay close attention to signs on trails, paths, and parks because sometimes rules can be specific to that area you’re passing through. Be VERY courteous to pedestrians slowing down to their speed, be respectful, know your rights, and be willing to leave if approached by a ranger or officer governing the area under different rules for that trail, etc. hope this info helps!

      also, with the Delfast, isn't speed mode 1 set to Class 2, 750 Watts, 20 MPH? that makes it legal all over the USA, if you keep it in that speed mode.

    • @FunctionFIVE
      @FunctionFIVE Год назад +1

      Disclaimer: I don't live in California right now. I have never heard of the helmet law. As for classes, the surron qualifies for a class3 out of the factory. The legality of operating it above that limit is however you wanna take it. All I can say to avoid getting in trouble on a surron or any technically class4 ebike ride in the bike lane, or get it registered as a scooter (get a license plate) there is a chart online that shows every state and what laws they use so obviously, research your local laws cause not every state even has the class 1234 system.

    Technically all cars and trucks are illegal because they can drive faster than the federal state and local speed limits if we use the same logic used on ebikes.
    I hate that ebikes are restricted for us. They should let us restrict ourselves and if we break the law then cops can write a citation....just like cars.

      I like your idea and totally agree! Another observation I’ve made is the extra mass of some eBikes could be a hazard to other pedestrians, especially I’ve noticed in my area people who rent eBikes with zero/very little experience and recklessly speed in very dense areas, they’re the ones ruining it all

    • @mixflip

    if you living in Europe, Netherlands for example, than Onyx and Surron are no go at least you go offroad or register them as motorbikes with plates and helmets, insurances etc.. They looks to much like motorbikes and every cop will stop you on bike lanes , we have here 250w and 25km/h restriction and is pointless to have serious strong bike for that. Another story is with Super73, it looks like many more legal bikes riding on bike lanes and police already not interested with checking , also they are been sell set to EU legal norm so they a safe here to use out from shop. What nobody around knows Super73 rx has 2000w motor and you can drive it with 50km/h double is legall with just tapping in app and in 1 second make it legal again turning off and on. So for some people somewhere in this planet Super73 kills competition.

I alternated between them @ first but after a couple of weeks I tended to pick the SurRon. The suspension is much better for my weight and the SurRon just looks like a finished product and the Onyx looks like an after work garage project. A really good one but not up to the SurRon’s finish. Also I don’t care for the alarm sounding when you start it. The battery cover didn’t fit correctly, I just left it off! I sold it within 6 months. You can get an app on your phone that can connect to the motor controller and modify the stock settings and drastically change the acceleration and power output.
