Staying motivated as an artist is one of the biggest challenges we face when we want to become better digital artists. Being an artist can be a roller-coaster of emotions. One day you're super inspired to do art on other days you might struggle with the even easiest drawings...
I've found a solution that will change your attitude from 'Maybe I can do this' to 'I'm going to do this!' 💪

Strange I made a comment about something similar. I said that the last 10 years, "I learned how to learn." I came to the conclusion and called it rust and friction.
RUST
Rust is that feeling of forgetting how to do things when one took a long break from it. So we have to clean off that rust off before we can start. We have to reconnect the brain back to those skills that are in our heads. I took a break from painting for 6 months and came back and it seemed like my skills regressed. Then I threw out that digital painting and started it over and it was the best damn painting I ever made. I realized it was because I lost the feel when I first started back up. Once I got back into it, my skills were all there. Now I warm up after long breaks before starting the real thing.
FRICTION
Friction is the feeling of starting something new. In nature, to overcome friction, we must put more force on the object to move it. Once moving, we don't have to put as much force into it to keep it moving. Every time I start learning something new, I am put off by it. I want to run and do something I already know how to do. Something safe. This is because those safe things we already pushed passed the friction and the ball is rolling. That's why we tend to run back to it. When I tried reading a book on a new subject, (Experiencing both Rust because I haven't read a book in a while, and friction because the subject was new to me) I couldn't read passed the hour. I said to myself "I just can't do this reading" and ran to go buy a new game I was interested in. When I put this game in I was excited!! Then I got the same feeling as I got when I was reading the book. I had to learn the controls, learn the monsters movements, learn the strengths and weaknesses of the enemies in game. I HATED DOING THAT!!! The term people use is learning curve. However, once I pushed passed that, the game started to be fun....This is when I realized, this friction is for everything I've ever experienced.
So I ran back to the book and stated reading it and learning from it. The first day, I read 1 hour, the second day I was on a roll and read 3 hours, the third day I read 2 hours, the 4th day I read 1.5 hours...So I decided then I will read about 2 hours of book time per day at the bare minimum. If I go over no problem. Just like that, I can sit down and am guaranteed to be able to read for 2 hours. That rust and friction was gone.
I forgot to say that I also learned from this friction that we should not get inspired by things but we should imbue the subject with our inspiration. That's how I put in the force to push the friction. I use it to learn any subject.
I also know failure is a part of life and one should not be afraid or ashamed to fail. I leaned my greatest lessons through failure. Although just make sure the failure is recoverable from. Throwing your life savings into the stock market and losing it all is recoverable as you are still alive. Running a red light into traffic is possibly not one of them.
