- DOWNTOWN CHICAGO | CINEMATIC SHORT FILM | CANON SL2 + ZHIYUN CRANE V2.
The weather was really nice here in Chicago so we decided to roam around downtown Chicago. We went to the Oak Street beach, Navy Pier, The Centennial Fountain, Millennium Park, The Alder Planetarium, Buckingham Fountain and random places around "The Loop". It was a great day! This cinematic short film of downtown chicago was shot on the Canon SL2 with the Canon 24mm STM lens and the Zhiyun Crane V2.

great look and color is nice.
Wow. Awesome video. I had this camera for quite a while now. Just got this 24mm stm and I'm so excited to get shots as good as this.
This is very very good. So many times when I'm trying to see test films for cameras the people shooting have no clue what they're doing. This is very helpful for getting an idea of what is possible.
Nice work man. I plan on filming a short movie when things return to normal 👍
cannot dislike this vid, superb work ! i really enjoy the framing
Thanks so much!
Great video. Been trying to decide on a gimbal for my sl2. Definitely going to just get the crane v2. Looks great
Killed it! That camera movement and song choice were money. Nice work!
michael amsel Thanks so much! Glad you enjoyed it!
Great video!! I was looking for lens and stabilizer for my SL2 and you sold it! :)
This came out clean 👌 Thanks for sharing man!
Jose Ceja Thanks! Appreciate that and glad you enjoyed it.
This was so pleasing to watch nicely done 😁
Nick Sparkman Thanks so much!
amazing video! great used of 200d. i'll be having that camera soon :)
Very good
Man you did an amazing job! Really changed my perspective on this camera.
Thanks so much!
This 🔥🔥🔥 got an SL2 myself and a Sony A7. Looking forward to shooting cinematic style like this!
Was thinking to grab my first camera
And after watching this I am going for sl2
Wow
Which lense you have used! by the way very nice video, and keep going on, show us some more beautiful videos like this! Have a good day!
Shiba Thank you! I shot this video with my old Canon SL2 and used the 24mm STM lens. Check out my latest video!
Great footage and colors!
Thanks so much!
Did you have an nd filter on the camera or a lens hood? I need to know everything u did its so clean! Nice shots!
Thank you for the video, I've been looking for a camera/gimbal set up so I can start making music videos/marketing for businesses and this is the set up i think I'm going to start with I'm really glad someone made some footage for this combination of products seems really high quality for the decent price that it is.
Amazing work my friend!
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it.
I’m actually working with the same set exact set up and was gonna get the crane V2. Do you like it??
Yes it’s still a good gimbal for light camera setups like yours. I don’t think I’d buy it new though. There are some really good ones out now in the $400 price range. The Feyutech AK2000 comes to mind.
Amazing!
Thank you!
Wow that was really well done ! Much better than what I was expecting . Did you shoot this in 60 FPS ?Slow it down later in post?
Thank you! Glad it exceeded your expectations 😁. Definitely plan to start putting out more consistent content. And yes, this video I shot at 60 and slowed it down in post.
This is beautiful. I have the Crane 2 and was looking at the SL2 for an upcoming vacation. The slow motion is immaculate, did you slow it down in post production and what setting did you use to achieve it? Thank you so much!
Amazing my friend, especially the shots at night!. How do you get that image quality in the at night with the SL2. Did you use a special setting? any tips? I have been shooting with the SL2 using the Cinelyke preset on my camera to have flat shots to have better color corrections and things like that, but I haveing to much noise in the image. Can you please bring some tips?
WOW WOW WOW!!! Those are really amazing shots! Love it! Did you do any color grading or is this straight out of the cam? Love my Sl2!
MohondhaY Thanks so much! I’m really glad you enjoyed it! I did basic color grading on each clip (slight adjustments to the mids and highs) and then applied a LUT afterwards. I shot with a flat color profile on the camera.
Nice! What's the name of the music?
MohondhaY The song is Wansui by Oliver Micheal
How do you shoot flat in the Sl2?
By using the neutral picture profile. I modified it a bit by decreasing the in camera sharpening. That's pretty much as flat as you can get with this camera.
Awesome Video!!!
Thanks so much! More coming soon! :D
Shon Myles can't wait please give my page a look. If you like please subscribe.
Nice dude
Cp Priest Thanks!
Amazing video can you share me the settings used for night video shooting.? And also can you advise nd filter used in both daylight and. Night time
wow! very very nice footage. I've bought the 24mm after seeing this. Did you use an ND filter? thanks
Thank you! The 24mm is a great lens. I believe a I was using a variable ND filter for this.
Man this is some nice footage ! do you have any footage with the normal video speed ? just to see how the crane helds up with non-Stabilized lens like the 24 mm STM.
Thanks! Check out some of the other videos on my channel. I’m not using the Canon SL2 but I’m am often using the Sony A7 III with non stabilized prime lenses and the crane V2.
nice video which lut have you used it ?
Great Film! Shots are smooth, colors are on point... However, I don't think this was shot with the SL2 because the SL2 doesn't shoot in 4k
Thanks! It was shot with the SL2 in 1080p. I edited the footage on a 4k timeline and exported the upscaled 1080p footage in 4k. I did this because of RUclips compression. RUclips uses a higher bitrate for 4k uploads
great video. would you suggest the canon sl2 for beginners videographers?
Devrin Bradford Thanks! Yes, I definitely would. It’s an affordable camera that shoots good 1080p video and it’s easy to use.
Awesome man, how do you stabilize de video because I have the crane v2 but doesn’t stabilize like this do you use premiere ?
Thanks! Honestly the Crane V2 did all of the stabilization. I just make sure I have the camera balanced correctly and I’m not exceeding with weight limit.
Hi! You work with manual focus or automatic? Thanks for all...
what settings did you have on your camera? and what kind of color grade lut did you use? really awesome love your work
For this video I was using the Canon SL2. I was shooting in 1080p at 60fps. I slowed down the footage to 30fps in post. I shot with an edited neutral profile with the in camera sharpening turned off. I used a LUT made by Peter McKinnon. Really glad you enjoy my work. More to come soon!
What song did you use in this video?
Did u use some ND filter?
dude you have 0 dislikes for a reason XD everyone literally respects and loves the heck out of this video hahahah
Thanks bro really appreciate the support! I’m definitely still learning and trying to improve. Check out my newer videos (if you haven’t already 😁) and let me know what you think!
Hyy Sir! Can you tell me how did you upscale to 4k?
In premiere pro with set to frame, or other technic?
Thanks
I edited this with Final Cut Pro X so I just put the footage on the 4k timeline. In premiere I’d do the same and chose the scale to frame size option for all the clips.
@@shonmyles5033 Thanks for answering! One more question, what is your picture profile and do you using sharpening in camera or in post?
Sasa Totic I used a neutral profile with sharpening off and added it in post.
Did you install the “CLog” profile in your camera? Is this LUT for free? Where?
JEANTV I didn’t install the clog profile. I used the neutral profile and modified it to make it more flat. For this video I actually used a LUT made by Peter McKinnon.
Shon Myles do you know where I can purchase this LUT??
Sorry for the late reply! Do a Google search for Peter McKinnon LUTs. The first result is a link to his selfy store where you can buy the LUT. I'm also working on a collection of my own custom LUTs. You check out my latest video to see how one of them looks.
Could you share what settings you had the crane on? I also have a SL2 with the canon 24mm lens. How did you balance it?
marvILLous I used the default settings for the Crane. I balanced it the same way you would any other camera. Just adjusted each axis until the camera could stay in any position I put it.
What lenses did you use especially in the low lighting?
Omari Brown I shot this whole video with the 24mm f/2.8
Oh can i ask what video software you used for the slow motion and stuff?
Ibrahim Kromah I used Final Cut Pro X
thanks a lot!!!
ShonMyles, Why is the resolution of the video 4k? How is that possible, software?
I up-scaled the video to 4k in Final Cut Pro. I did this because RUclips compresses 4k footage much less than 1080p footage.
Thanks bro now I now.
Josue Sanchez No problem!
@@shonmyles5033 What type of lenses did you use in this video and stabilizer?
my bad I didn't see the "Zhiyun Crane V2", but the lenses?
whats LUT ?
What lens were you using?
Tiffany Onwudinanti I shot this video with canon’s 24mm f/2.8 STM lens.
does the 24mm keep everything in focus? what's the difference between this and the 50mm?
I guess that depends on what you mean by "everything in focus" Both lenses will keep everything in the frame in focus relative to whatever aperture you have set and how close you are to your subject. The 24mm is a much wider focal length. 50mm is a longer/tighter/more zoomed in focal length.
@@shonmyles5033 thank you so much , do you recommend getting both?
Yes. But if you can only get one, I'd go with the 24mm. Most of shots that I shoot either at 24 or 28mm. And you can still get close up shots if you can physically move closer to your subject. But, that won't give you the same look that a 50mm would.
@@shonmyles5033 thank you lots !!
You’re welcome!
What software you use to edit this?
I used Final Cut Pro X to edit this.
@@shonmyles5033 keep up the great work. There is a lot of ppl out there who are not able to buy the most expensive gear and to see the quality you produce with the SL2 is fascinating. I would love to see more work like this and possibly a video on your editing process and work flow. I'm you're 20th subscriber :).
Thanks so much! Appreciate the support! I plan to do some walkthroughs of how I edit in the future.
If a the word cool had a definition it would be this video
Thank you!
4k really on sl2 are you kidding.....
The 1080p footage from the SL2 was edited on a 4k timeline and upscaled. RUclips compresses 4k footage less than 1080p.
