It's so clear that this is not simply put on for the camera, each one of your mounts which have been featured are clearly trusting of you and not afraid of your hands on them. Totally understand you didn't fix the dent in the armor. I wouldn't either if it wasn't a problem. Just a memory of what would have been a proud moment for any knight or a good laugh among friends. Love how Talos stomped with his hoof when you explained how saddle and armor work together like "Jason, you wanna ride or do you intend to talk from my back all day?"

    I just finished reading a series of books by a guy named Tony Venables which take the Robin Hood legend and recast it with Guy of Gisburne as the protagonist. A character appears in the last book who is described as a great jouster and fighter and is a fairly major character and ally of Gisburne. As I was reading it, I was thinking, "Wow, he reminds me of that Kingsley guy on RUclips." I read the dedications at the end of the last book and, sure enough, the last dedication was to Jason Kingsley for originally suggesting to the author the idea of making Gisburne the hero!

      @@ModernKnight.. That's what I was thinking... a friend of mine was in the army in Germany in a special unit called Gebirgsjäger Tragtierkompanie.. they transport supplies with mules through the mountains.. he told me mules have their own thoughts.. you can't discuss or force them to do things, if you try they can get very stubborn and even just lay down if they think that's not OK what you're demanding from them.. 😅😅😅👍👍.. and when he left the army his mule left too.. and lived on his farm..(they were glad to get rid of her because she was definitely one of the "special minded" mules in the army).. she died aged 32 (mules have a longer expiry date than horses, so you still have a long time to train Mulie very slowly 👍😊)

    • @CreekValleyCritters
      @CreekValleyCritters 4 года назад +40

      @@monikahasch7441 I think the reason horses and mules are so different when it comes to training is because horses and donkeys have very different family structures in the wild. Horses live in family groups that depend on each other for survival, being able to co-operate with each other is very important. Donkeys though live in fluid herds with the family structures usually only consisting of a female with her immediate offspring. They have a promiscuous breeding style as opposed to the polygamous family structure of horses. This makes them independent, free thinking and less co-operative. Mules get some of this from their donkey fathers so are more independent thinkers and less co-operative than horses. Pleasing a dominant herd leader is hardwired in horses (like it is in us humans), much less so in donkeys.

    Also, Id love to see a video on the history of the saddle.I only learned the Romans and Greeks didnt have saddles like 15 years ago. I think it would be interesting to hear what the history of the saddle is. You do touch on it a bit on some of your other videos.

    I was always interested in horses. I never thought of Armour noises and such spooking your horse. Thats the last thing you would want being on a strong animal that could literally fold that armor and crush your bones. I was told by a friend that old war horses were trained to bite and stomp people aswell. I don't know if all horses were trained to kill people but I believe it

    there are some modern saddle companies that offer different seat options for men and women, too! Mainly the difference seems to be the width of the pelvis and the ischium as well as the angle the hip is tilted in. Most „unisex“ saddles are actually built more for men than for women. Also a lot of typical riding instructions work better with a male anatomy and posture than a female (i.e. the good old: „shoulders back“ can make women sit in a hollow back position, which you obviously don‘t want, because the female anatomy has less innate core strength than the male). Both the instructions and the equipment are still going back to a time when most riders were men. Or at least there would have been specific instructions and equipment for women in side saddles.

    Talos is a very good boy and gorgeous too! Thank you too because with getting an idea of how much a couple of hands height difference makes in your horses (Ghost and Warlord v Gossamer v Talos) I now have an additional understanding of why Gondor in Lord of the Rings isn’t a horse culture - horses big enough to carry very large mounted men like the Numenoreans into battle would have been so difficult logistically to feed, let alone everything else!

    I suspect Talos was so mellow because he up most of the night eating fermented apples.

    I don't think I'll ever take up jousting, but just horseback riding is a big adventure for me!

    I love Warlord and Talos! They have attitude and personality with that of a human. But Jason you are amazing with them. It’s like you and them have an understanding, instead of them just obeying..... cheers from Georgia Sir Jason! - Steve

    I haven't read all the comments or watched the complete video as yet. However, another thing that might brother the horse is the smell of iron or steel. Of course, they've already smelled it in small quantities but, a suit of armor stinks of the smell of iron.

    I have ridden in all manner of modern saddles but nothing beats a medieval saddle for riding even without armour.

    I bet it would make a pretty epic ASMR video if this guy got good audio of him buckling and strapping on the whole set of armor, with no other talking or background noise.

      Same- that would be cool. But knights usually had aides to help them get all of their armor on. It was pretty complicated.
