    Recently bought some recommended assets. They seem to be more negative portfolios this 3rd half of 2023 with markets tumbling, soaring inflation, and banks going out of business. My concern is how can the rapid interest-rate hike be of favor to a value investor, or is it better avoiding the market for a while?

      Just ''buy the dip'' man. In the long term it will payoff. High interest rates usually mean lower stock prices, however investors should be cautious of the bull run, its best you connect with a well-qualified adviser to meet your growth goals and avoid blunder

    This is quite educational. It's crucial for newcomers to keep in mind that the financial markets are highly irrational in the short run. You should constantly be ready for the unexpected. That is how chance operates. Because of the inherent risks in the market, I always favor long-term investments.

    Do you have a video on the difference in choosing Index fund or ETF? which is better? Great video.

    • @RespectfullyCurious
      @RespectfullyCurious 8 месяцев назад +1

      You need some clarification first, and I understand the confusion because a lot of idiots make videos conflating the two.
      Index funds are funds that track and index. That's it. They can come in the form of a mutual fund or an exchange traded fund (ETF).
      Therefore an index fund can be an ETF.
      I believe your question should be "what's better a mutual fund or ETFs"?
      If you are comparing an index fund that is a mutual fund and an index fund that is an ETF; they are tracking the same thing so you will have the same returns.
      The only issue with mutual funds is that they distribute capital gains and dividends, while ETFs just distribute dividends. Therefore, if you have a mutual fund in a regular brokerage account, and not a retirement account where taxes aren't an issue; you will have to pay taxes on the dividends AND the capitsl gains. Compare that to only having to pay taxes on the dividends received by the ETF. That's why it's recommend to buy ETFs in your brokerage account and mutual funds in s retirement account.

    Three years ago, I put half of my assets into TSLA, keeping enough in index funds so that even if Tesla went bankrupt, I would be OK. Even with last year's drop of 80%, my Tesla stock is up by almost 100% in three years. I have to admit, after 50 years of "slow and steady" investing, buying this one exciting stock has been pretty thrilling. But I still understand and accept the compelling logic of owning low-cost, broad stock and bond market index funds.

    It's a bit late, but I just started investing after years of poor money management. I was able to completely pay down 5 figures of credit card debt and put away a nice chunk of cash. I went with a roughly 60/40 split between index ETFs and individual stocks. Only point I disagree with is advice #1. I think people who blindly invest in individual stock shouldn’t be investing in individual stocks. If you stick with stocks like FANG stocks you should be good especially if your a younger investor. My personally favorites are Google, Tesla, and Microsoft. Only make this a small portion of your portfolio (unless your younger, you can take the risk and go a little heavy.) I believe Google and Microsoft will be winners in the future and the writing is on the wall. Tesla will live and die with Elon (which makes them the most risky, compared to the other two that have had multiple successful CEOs.) just my 2 cents…

    I have to disagree with points 1, 2 , 4, in this video in a taxable brokerage account (out side your IRA , 401k, HSA, 403b) choosing individual stocks is better than choosing an index fund. By using tax loss harvesting in a taxable brokerage account you can offset capital gains with capital losses as long you do not violate the wash sale rule buying a like stock, ETF, mutual fund 30 days before after a loss; IE you sell shares of General Motors for a loss and buy shares of Ford 30 days before or after. You also can write off $3000 of capital loss a year on your income tax; you carry over excess in future tax years. With an index fund like S&P 500 you could do tax loss harvesting but you would have to not be in a index for 30 days; if you sold shares of S&P 500 SPY ETF for a capital loss you would have to wait 30 days later or buy more shares or a like S&P 500 ETF Vanguard VOO to not violate the wash sale rule. I had stocks I inherited or I added that have out preformed the S&P 500 like Eli Lilly I am up 255% from an inherited stepped up basics from August 2020.

    Yes. Don’t buy individual stocks. I invested a few thousand dollars as an experiment, in 2 individual stocks at the height of the Pandemic, they had been doing great pre pandemic, and if the post pandemic economy was as good as pre pandemic they should have doubled after the pandemic. However, the economy changed after the pandemic and these two companies have not recovered yet. Don’t know if they ever will. I’m still holding them, and it’s only a couple thousand dollars, but I wonder if I would have been better off investing in an index fund, or a fund that pays dividends. It was only a small part of my investments, but lesson learned.

    Sorry, but individual stocks here only at this moment. I have lots of catching up to do. Chances of any of them crashing during the period I hold them, are low. I also have a several back-up plans and options. Not ready for ETFs yet. 401k never offered in any of my jobs in 25 years. Taxes really low, so I don't even want to waste my time on trying to lower them.

    It's estimated that Americans will need more than $1 million to retire comfortably, but I found most of us aren't bullish about meeting this goal. I've been sitting on over $600K equity from a house sale and I want to invest in the stock market, how do I achieve this?

    14:00 This is the biggest fallacy taught when it comes to market investing. Average annual return is about 8% but this is retrospective, averaging out past returns. Therefore forward calculations should be calculated as simple interest and NOT compounding interest. Therefore if $100,000 invested for 30 years at 8% annually would yield around $240,000 after 30 years. $100,000 x 8% x 30 added to your original $100,000 = $340,000. Still not bad returns but not as magical as everyone makes it out to be.

    The stock markets are currently witnessing severe downturns, as evidenced by the RSI showing pronounced oversold states. We've seen a persistent decline without notable reversals, creating an overwhelmingly negative and apprehensive market mood. In light of these circumstances, there's a substantial chance we'll see a robust rebound or a corrective rally soon, possibly addressing some of the evident gaps in the chart. This scenario underscores the unpredictable dynamics of financial markets and the necessity of astute investment choices. Using Mary mcDonald trading strategies, I've personally reaped significant gains, securing 13 bitcoins within a mere five-week timeframe of day trading. This success attests to her profound market knowledge.
