@WatchJRGo 2 transmissions, 2 cylinder heads, carburetors, valve covers, fuel pumps, etc, a whole pile of stuff. I'll send ya pics of what's there. I won a lot of parts at an auction a few years ago.
I have worked at Mercedes the last 25 years. If you let me know exactly what you need, I will check with some of my friends in service and parts. Another option might be to check with a Mercedes Club. They have a huge network, and share information about these kinds of things.
My best advice for this car is to reach out to Kent Bergsma of Mercedes source in Washington or perhaps Woods and Barclay in Georgia. They can probably help you out with getting parts for this car or perhaps redirect you to a supplier that does carry the parts that you need to resurrect this lovely gem
@@lieutenantdan8170 I'm sorry to hear about that. Yeah he's a huge snob. I'm not gonna lie. You're not the only person who's told me that btw and you won't be the last. I don't interact with people like that unless I have to.
I hope you restore this car. Any old car is costly to repair, but this one is special. I'd be happy to give and send you my flare kit so you can replace the brake lines (I think you'll need to do that).
I saw the title and my first thought was "Oh, no....He just missed the AACA swap meet in Hershey!". As billed by the AACA, The Worlds Largest Antique Auto Swap Meet and Show. As billed by me, living next to Hershey, the worlds largest traffic nightmare! I have friends who brave the show every year. They say, "If you can't find it at Hershey, it doesn't exist!". Good luck. This is an awesome labor of love and will be amazing when finished. Thanks for your time and be safe!
When my brother and I were young, he had a 1965 220S, and I had a 1964 190D. We were forever working on the 220, and my 190D never needed anything. The 220 is very temporal mental, especially the carburetors and the valves. This is a very interesting video. Thanks for sharing 👍.
JR, do you plan to fully restore this car? I sure hope so! I’d love to see you tear this entire thing down and fully rebuild/restore it with your dad! I could watch you and your dad work for hours on this! He is an incredible guy. cheerish the time spent with him!
One place in the US I recall that probably has some of these ancient Mercedes parts: the Mercedes-Benz Classic Center in Los Angeles CA. Their specialty is old German iron like this.
I had a '70 Open GT, also German made, and I see a lot of familiar parts. Those rubber exhaust hangers are the exact ones it used. The Opel had a small gearbox like that one as well, I remember it from when I had to replace the clutch.
I had a 62 300SE back in late 70’s until 2012. I got to the point where the majority of my parts had to come from Germany. There is a guy here in Florida, Melbourne I believe, that works on old Mercedes. He might be able to direct you to parts.
This is a fascinating run-and-drive project, but it looks like Mercedes 220S mountain is getting harder to climb. Has a time and financial limit been set for this project?
Parts should be available from your Mercedes dealer or any number of online euro parts vendors. I’m certain there will be a few parts that are NLA or more difficult to find. But no, oreillys probably won’t have much, and that’s not a bad thing.
Not surprised you're having a hard time with parts.... everything that old is pretty much unobtainium. You're either going to have to put modern parts in there or get lucky finding someone that has new old stock.
Marx Mercedes in Costa Mesa, CA works on these everyday. Reach out to them for help on parts, etc. The owner, Steve Marx, has the first fintail Mercedes brought to the U.S.
To explain my comment, from 1957 through 1963 Mercedes Benz in America was sold as a Captive Import through Studebaker dealers. This roughly coincided with the demise of real Packards (not PackaBakers). Mercedes Benz was Studebakers last stand in the luxury market.
All the rubber brake line hoses are swollen shut, that is why no fluid is coming through. The hoses will all have to be replaced and all the rubber o-rings in the masters and wheel cylinders will be trash too.
Well I was busy eating turkey and pie and then watching part of the Godfather movies so missed the early drop. At least the engine runs good and hopefully you get deals on the rest of the parts you're going to need. Hope Turkey day was good for you and the family 🍗👍
you can easily take apart and repack the back clothes yourself, have had the back clothes taken off and it is not complicated. also everything else in that car is easy to go to with general tools my father has had many old mercedes in his life up to the new -8 123s so grew up with them when I was younger he renovated them all the way back then.😊😊
Nothing rebuilding the diff, transmission, drive shafts, braking system, fuel system, replacement of all the worn suspension components, new belts, hoses, and seals won’t fix.
What's the plan with this? For this old of a car that's been sitting forever and leaking badly everywhere, I would just assume every single hose, line, gasket, fluid, etc needs replacement... yet you seem surprised by some of it. So just trying to get it running or actually make it road worthy?
You'd be amazed what a simple LS swap will do
Don’t tempt me 😂
👎
I warned you it takes an eternity to fix
Wheel cylinders not leaking??? Cmon man!
You'll probably roll your eyes at this..... but....I actually have a pile of parts in my warehouse for this era Mercedes lmao.

0:27 There is a large german store that specializes in old mercedes called Niemoeller. They have a ton of parts, but they aren't exactly cheap.

+1 for Mercedes Source. He even has a youtube channel.
I don't care for the guy, he banned me from his comments a few years ago for politely disagreeing that the m112 is better than the m104

That's why my pops used to get rid of that junker German motor and threw in a 327 from a Chevy
Replace the rubber hoses first when cars sit for a long time they degrade and close up, had the same issue on my barnfind jag
This reminds me of an episode of the TV Show, Roadworthy Rescues

I figured this would be a very hard car to get back to as perfect as possible.
Can't wait to see a PSP Go as the head unit.
In Europe we have everything needed
Happy thanksgiving John Ross!

Thought that you should know that it is recommended to adjust the valves every oil change on those engines since they don't have hydraulic lifters.

I hear that....that's why I sold my 59 Chev pickup ...only one place left that even sold a master cylinder and fuel pump...there phasing them out.
You just need to make all your own parts. Have you seen how they do that in cuba to keep all them 50s chevys going?
Just contact Mercedes-Benz here in Germany. There's no part you cannot obtain.
Price, however, _might_ be an issue...
Wait a second this isn't a C5 Corvette 🤔. 😂😂😂
@@FeloniousSavage the perfect car with unlimited parts 😍
Plenty of parts here in New Zeland, just don't tell JR senior😂
Go to the dealer. Mercedes Benz supports every vehicle they have ever made. Seriously.
Back in 2008 the brake drums for a 300SL were 10k each. They will sell you anything want but be ready to pay
Both of those master cylinders need cleaned, and inspected.

that car needs to back in a museum. it will cost mega bucks to make that car proper and keep it that way.
I do not see a return on that much money.
@@alanm2842 for sure, they are hardly worth anything, so I can’t pour money into it. 😬
LS swap, Brembo brakes, full powertrain, brake, and suspension update. Keep the chassis/body. This car is a prime candidate for a restomod.
Have you tried the MB Classic Center?
Notate. That’s the ticket!!
Your videos are a treasure. Thank you for your talent and creativity.🥶🦉❣️
I had a Nissan Altima that had 9mm for the bleeders on the wheel cylinders and most rams use 11mm for the bleeders.
I thought Mercedes Benz had a Classic service that will source any part… for a price.
Yes they have and its not that expensive some of the parts
I had a gray market 240D (W123) that was very reliable... except for the oil cooler leak which I ended up bypassing.
haven't heard "gray market" in a long time. do you know the one place in the usa you can still import grey market cars into?
There are parts for this car. You did not search at the right places.
Use hot coffee on the battery acid. It works every time with little to no scrubbing.
All of those parts should be readily available at your local Studebaker dealership.

The fun of old cars! All the rubber is bad...
Please use hot coffee on the battery acid. It cleans in seconds, doesn’t hurt anything and rinses off with water.
Woohoo my bedtime video
Video tip, when you show a close up of those dirty parts hold them still instead of acting like you have an essential tremors problem.
THE Assassin Golgo 13 owned a white version the same year too

Older Fords use 11mm brake fittings.
I bet Mercedes has most of the parts in stock, at least here in Europe they have
Well, I live in Palm Springs California so if you need any parts from the Mercedes-Benz classic Center of Long beach give me a ring
Why not change parts from a newer model, disc brakes shocks filters etc? It is a good frame and panels, kinda deserves to be upgraded to drivable.
Go to Germany yourself , nice toppic to find parts for your MB

🥇 boom!
I am shocked that O'Reilly's doesn't have parts in stock for a 64 year old import car.
I ad a friend who had a 68 330.He bought 2 parts cars for parts.
You really should have Alex’s number in your phone. He’d probably consider it an honor to help if he can.
The prognosis isn't looking good, I hope it's not terminal for the 220S.
John, this looks exactly the kind of job for Alex lmao. I sense a collab for this one haha. Love the work you do mate! Keep up the great work!
Those rubber brake lines are good for 10 maybe 20 years then their junk, JYDn VGG and PBG have proven this time and again

You need to dry eyes clean that bottom entirely of that Frauline
ask Alex from Legit Street Cars..and Sreten..he's in Germany
Did you try "Mercedes Source" in Bellingham, Wa, his name is Ken, last name ?---------Mikey, Belfair, Wa
You need a good friend in Germany they would be able to source parts easier than here.
I'm gonna make a bet that those brake and clutch masters are too pitted inside to rebuild. gonna have to be re-sleeved
Apple Hydraulics does a great job with sleeving cylinders with brass sleeves.
Sell it to Mike wrench Mike, talk to auto auction rebuilds. ( Randy ).
