I would add one more piece of advice which only really applies to the first scenario (because of its brutal weather dice): make sure you have roof 3+ (even better: 4) in EVERY single weather phase from round 7. From rounds 4 to 6, finding an island tile to stay on and getting that roof to 3+ should be your top priority. The reason is that as long as your roof is only at 1 you can still move your camp around to the "best" tile without any punishment. Once you push the roof to 2+, you don't want to move around anymore. Having roof 3+ at all times from round 7 is much more important than the wood pile. Once the roof is set, you still have plenty of time to fill the pile.
Great video! I would like to see one for the First Martians too, because I actually really like the game and maybe more people would if they see that it is actually possible to win often, with the right strategy 👍
This was so cool! It was kind of like a Pro Tips Video, and DVD Director's Commentary all in one. Would love to see them for other scenarios. It was really engaging, fascinating from a design perspective, and felt like that "back of the manual hint sheet" from old PC games.
I have had this game since it first came out and have failed to conquer the first scenario even now. However, I am so determined not to 'cheat' and move on that I get this game out every now and then and try (and fail!) again. One day.... But this is the strength of this game isn't it? It oozes character and is so fun and challenging to play. I hope this rather marvelous video will finally help me to crack this scenario and reach the heady heights of scenario 2 :). Thanks for a great video - done with tremendous cavalier style and a whole lot of fun!
Dziękuję za ten skarb-bo te porady to skarb (bardziej przydatny na tej wyspie niż kosztowności), częściej dzięki niemu wygrywam, ale dziś przegrałem mimo stosowania tego skarbu
We played Robinson yesterday and tried to rescue Jenny. We couldn't get enough furs to build the boat to escape from the island. We went hunting four times, but not one of them gave as furs (bird, boa etc.). But that's life. :D The game is great and can't wait the Gamefound stuff. Greeting from Estonia! :)
We won that scenario yesterday in turn 5/8 (before we even had to roll the red die), partially that's thanks to strategy and us realising right from the start that hunting was going to be important for this scenario, but also a good serving of luck with some big beasts giving us lots of food and fur, and being blessed with the cellar invention (use regular food as if it were non-perishable, as long as the invention is built) which we built as soon as possible (built the shovel in round 1, built cellar in round 2; we found a beast in round 1 during exploration, which we could hunt in round 2, and then stored its food in our cellar)
Great video man! I'm sure many people will benefit, especially those who are just getting started with this great game. I quickly appreciated the determination tokens after a few spectacular defeats 🙂 We've finally managed to save Jenny, but the legendary Cannibals are still undefeated for now 🙂 Next time tips for First Martians please. Greetings!
I do like to tell my friends who don’t play much board games when they go on and on about Dark Souls that I’ll be impressed when they beat Robinson Crusoe. I usually don’t watch strategy tips, a big part of the fun is figuring out what works for me, but for a first scenario it makes sense.
Dark souls is an easy game. It's like a dance - learn the moves and it's simple. Not to mention the logical best choice of stats. Only youngens think it 'difficult'. Tell them to try the older Wizardry's (Especially 5,6 and 7.) and see how they go.
This was interesting, there were a few scenarios in that game that felt impossible and very luck-based (like event cards swiping out all your resources out to the ocean :)
Cannibal island is pretty hard, other are all possible to win in 7/10 games if you know how to approach them. Each scenario has their own DNA you must discover and hack :)
In general, as a new hobby board gamer I would like to see more of the following: 1) information about what mechanics a game is using and to what extent (this is to inform newbies of 'if you like this game, then it might be due to these mechanics, so look for more of that' 2) I will need to solo game most games that I buy, so how can I solo a game? What am I loosing out on (how different is it to the 'real' (i.e. multiplayer) game? Are there good variants, official or un-official? And if no solo-mode is known of, would it be possible to create one - and if so, what should be taken into consideration (as seen from a designer's point of view)? Also, if soloing but playing on behalf of more 'hands', how many would be ideal for a good gameplay (not too long, not too impossible)? 3) Same as for solo, but for a two-player game. What, if anything should one alter or be aware of? I learn a lot about a game from playthroughs that are designed to show, and to a degree, teach me the game - without slowing it too much down. That way I can watch the game played, with the player(s) thinking out loud their strategy and thoughts/decisions. This gives me a good idea if this game is something I might actually enjoy myself. It will make me buy a more expensive game as I 'know' I should enjoy it. Much better than buying blindly. However, I do not enjoy just watching someone playing it (i.e. their fun time being filmed). It must be filmed for 'my' benefit as the viewer in order to inform me. 4) Not sure what a video commercial on youtube costs, but perhaps that is an idea to 'spreading the word' that your channel has great content? Or maybe a sponsorship for a few videos of other creators? 5) Totally agree that videos like this for other Portal Games games would be appreciated.
I often play with someone who is very keen on finding the cave, I don't think I've ever won castaways while playing with him😅 We did win both scenario's 2 and 3 yesterday though (after I had finally won castaways playing online a little while ago [and of course it was one of the rare times when I was not playing with my cave loving friend], so I wanted to try a different scenario for a change)
Love the tips and the energy, Ignacy! I bought Robinson Crusoe a week ago and got my first game going last night (solo). Love it thus far, but looking forward to more adventures and exploring the game further. Is there any character you would recommend for solo play above the others? Also - with co-op games, I sometimes take on two characters, even if I only play solo. Would you recommend this? Or is Friday and the Dog enough support on solo play?
Why is the cave a trap ? 😤😤😤 I set out to explore in order to find the cave ! Btw: Please explain the weather five yes, I am confused about the rules regarding these five 😕 Thank you and kind regards from the UK.
@@apollonia6656 I presume you played a lot since. :) Cave=you can't move your camp anymore without breaking stuff, loosing stuff. Good camp location is vital it gives a lot of resources from it's tile automatically, and it has to be near to other imrortant resources, can't be 2-3 tiles distance. So staying at the cave is huge disadvantage. Weather dice: you only roll it if the round token's slot tell you to. The rules specify the symbol, it can be cold, and clouds number counts too. Cheers fom Hungary!
If this title doesnt get the clicks nothing will. Also was there at some point a shirt on the Portal site with a RC death count on it? I cant seem to find it and think I may have imagined it at this point.
Educational for you (no offense): TWO different english words - moral and morale - different pronuciation - just FYI. Thanks for the video! I paid VERY close attention to understand almost all of it!

right man, and by playing a carpenter you can (playing solo or with two players) build a roof level with 1 wood and 2 determination tokens

This one is good, really good. More like this, please.
Thank you for the feedback!

That was amazing. We were laughing so much, but having struggled with this already, it was super helpful.

You have to make a video about First Martians. It would be a great discussion of its journey and how much changed after the initial reviews.
Yep, considering it.
Thanks for the tips!! I cant wait to use them the next time we play
Thank you!
Ignacy is so entertaining. RC is in my top 3 all-time favorites.
Wow, this was super helpful!!!
...and real
Ignacy, you are such a cool dude, it's crazy.
Awesome tips!! With these we can surely survive :P

Nice tips ! I will need them when the game arrives and I can start playing !

The only time I beat Castaways was by avoiding dice rolls and keeping the morale to the max.

I think Joshua said it best..."A strange game. The only winning move is not to play."
Luckily, I could never trust a computer! 😁
Not playing Robinson is not winning :P
Local man upset that people are bad at his game.

Haven't played it for a while because I am chair bound right now so: roll and five for a while yet.
Good game! But perhaps a bit easy at higher player counts
I just took the build action as a safe action every turn and it was easy
