Greetings from South Africa. The beetle was also popular in the 60's when Disney came out with the Film "The Love Bug" which was the first of a few films of a Beetle that drives by itself, which we all now simply know as Herbie.
The old Beetles and Karman Ghias are the best cars in the world. I ditched my Mercedes, and Jaguars and other luxury cars after a test drive in a Beetle. I was hooked eversince and i drove everywhere in my old Beetles and Ghias.
I am suprized with all the anti-Nazi Germany setiment in America, that the VW Beatle would be still touted as a desirable car. I am restoring a 2001 New Beatle right now and wondering if at some point, people will target these cars for destruction.
Probably Volkswagen is the only group to own 3 sports car manufacturers at once; Porsche, Lamborghini & Bugatti. In addition, a motorcycle manufacturer Ducati is also there owned by Lamborghini which in turn is owned by Audi which is directly owned by Volkswagen. Surprising!
Germans failed to make this car reliable, especially the new beetle. I wished germans would be only designers & give toyota japan a contract to manufacture the new beetle that would last as forever as toyota corolla
