    Art is the conscious equivalent of a dream state. It's just one of many creative genres used to express ourselves in abstract ways. I am an artist (mural-size oil paintings) and there is nothing special about art above the basic generation of abstract information. We learn about ourselves and our environment through art. However, art also demonstrates that biological evolution might not be as "benign" as we think it is. It could be that "Existence" is just as much an artist as Picasso, van Gogh, or Monet?
    The universe is a cosmic art gallery with a 13.8-billion-year-old exhibit going on right now ... _and it's totally free!_

    Art is a direct projection of the artists self, an extended phenotype adapted to communicate with other selves. If it didn't affect the self then art wouldn't exist in the first place.

    There are so many factors that get spread over by this blanket-term of the 'Self.' In a simple manner I'd say that there's aspects of the self that art can affect, as a result of exposure/interaction with an art piece, but that the Self is not affected by art-- or in fact any other environmental influence over time; and that is a matter of self-inquiry and not scientific research (most likely).

      "there's aspects of the self that art can affect"
      " the Self is not affected by art"
      These two statements are contradictory

    • @0201Cosmic
      @0201Cosmic Год назад +1

      @@ferdia748 Only to people who think one-dimensionally. What constitutes 'self' is a highly intricate web of aspects.
      I'll give you for example the very over-simplified elements of the archetypal psyche from Jung:
      Persona, Anima/Animus, Shadow, Self.
      You don't want the unsimplified rabbit-hole.
      Well, actually you do, it's the one central call of all humans - that is also the most shunned - 'that longing' Rumi would say.
      Adios.

    • @ferdia748
      @ferdia748 Год назад

      @@0201Cosmic ok you were still referring to 'the self', how complex it is would be irrelevant. You can't assert P and not P, P being intricate wouldn't change that.

    There just has to be some tie-in to religion here. We have the notion of a "just ruler," a lord, a king, etc., but in that case the king would perhaps be seen as one who is imposing justice on a fundamentally unjust world. Iow, we need and look to the king to establish justice where it otherwise would not exist.
    When theism enters the picture, however, it then becomes impossible (in traditional theistic notions) to say the world is fundamentally unjust. This could possibly explain why western theistic cultures can be observed to have more "harshness" and less openness to strangers, to differences in visage, less agreeableness, etc. than some eastern/asian cultures, which even now seem generally to maintain a more hospitable attitude toward the "other" than western/christian cultures historically have shown.
    Interestingly, Asian cultures, which traditionally have not been theistic, also have a concept of "losing face" that is much more pronounced than in the more individualistic cultures of the west, where the person in Asian culture is seen to "lose face" for violating social norms and bringing shame to the reference group. So when the person doesn't cooperate with the values of the group, etc. they figuratively lose their actual visage within the group, perhaps reflecting or resulting in some kind of neurobehavioral effect.

    I would love to ask Dr. Chatterjee what would be the cause of the pleasure we have when we are in relation with what we call 'beautiful' (I'm thinking about a response to an impulse or desire). Another one would be: is this pleasure with the beautiful a feeling of freedom?

    That is a 100% Quantum Anagram Match with my arithmetic equation of 3V6

    I have drawn them on my wall as Glorious Murals of Art, from my mind to my hand, I threw culture out…

    Art is feeble to necessity, the human ffa maps disfigured faces differently because mapping faces requires social learning as does triangulation, which is rapidly acquired. Really what the brain learns is that political deception is both important and gives you an emotional high - which is the highest high, higher than anything else. Nobody would turn down the ring of gyges for that very reason - it's the ultimate drug. Si latet ares, prodest

    If you hand somebody the Bible, Upanishads, or the Vedas, they're not going to be able to 'get it', especially without the proper preceptor. It requires discipline, time, effort, and a prerequisite of having a sense of honor & reverence for life & truth, and a drive from within to see it through so grasping the deep meanings and truths of life which already are obscured by the lower mind -- this is what I question here, concerning this innate reverence and drive within a man so seeking or seeking to Know thyself, what causes this, why have others not discovered the 'inner journey' ?
    The arts make visible something that is beyond the apprehension of the finite mind: unity, symmetry, symphony, harmony, bliss, grace, joy, meaning, relations, balance, beauty, Wisdom and a subtle touch of Intuition everybody Knows, everybody 'see's, like a reminder or recollection of something forgotten, something Spiritual.
    We can make instruments for vibrations and sounds, but the harmony, symphony and melody are already there, the instruments really are a medium in connecting two seeming disconnected worlds.
    It's incredible. Folks, we're part of something beyond inredible and we have to acknowledge this as the ancients have. They passed their test, we're the class of 21st century, and it's not good.
