I had this very problem. Before spending hours dismantling and losing and breaking those awful clips i searched around and found a really simple fix. -Start the car so you don't run the battery flat (easily done!) - empty the reservoir with the best squirts you can if possible - add a mild mix of about 100ml water and bleach - squirt so that it comes through the system and you can smell it in the water squirted - get a beer and sit back while it does all the hard work. Leave over night at least - try the washers 24 hrs later - worked a treat on mine. Restored my dribbles to a full screen squirt. - if only some improvement repeat steps and leave again for another night. - once ok, empty reservoir and flush with clean water. (Start the engine first!) - fill with your normal washer fluid water mix - job done. Pat your back in congratulations. I was concerned that the bleach might affect the paint, but i don't see any issues on my car. You can always rinse the car once you're done. Hope this saves you time and efforts. But great video if your motor actually needs replacement. 😊
good video. shows the trials and tribulations of the layman doing this at home. I'll have to do this within the next week so I'm not paying loads in labour and parts for the garage to do it.
Update: Did the job today. took the shroud off, got to the pump and took it and the filter out and sure enough it was the filter that as blocked. Full of gunk and grime. Rinsed it in the sink with warm water and a bottle brush, blew through it a few times and now the wipers are performing perfectly. No need to replace the pump. Cost = £0.00. Cheers for the video. 👍
This happened to me but I took my car into our workshop and blew pressure in through the washer jets one at a time while blocking the air from coming out of the other jet, I could here the air reaching the tank by the sound of bubbles, then tried the washer and it worked a treat
That was super, very, very helpful, thank you! Hope you did not get too wet !! By the way, why did you have to keep starting the Engine ? - Why not just turn on the Ignition for a short while ? Waste of petrol/starter wear, etc... Take care, Mike
Thanks i might need to try this as my pressure is low and blowing air through the jets only works temporarily. It seems to be a common problem with the filter getting gunked up.
There is a small round knob just outside the bottom left of the main Rev and Speed/ fuel level/ heat level display. Push that button in and it will pop out. Twist the knob to get the desired brightness then push the button back in.
That would be from the calcium carbonate dissolved into tap water passing over ground with chalky compounds. The concentration of chalky, calcium carbonate in your location's tap water is often observed by redeposits in the form of furring when looking inside your kettle, used for boiling tap water.
Algae ! - You would be AMAZED at what can grow in 'standing water ! - Try filling an empty plastic water bottle with tapwater and leave it somewhere for a few weeks or months... That's without even going into all the bollocks that the water company's put in the stuff. I'm an Engineer and build aircraft, I simply cannot include tapwater in the coolant mix (Propolene Glycol / Water), without DESTROYING the aluminium in the engines !! - De-Ionised Water HAS to be used ! P.S. - Don't drink too much of the shit, either...
