I saw Dionne sing our national anthem at the Colliseum in LA at a Rams game with my late Father. It's a very sweet memory with my Dad. She was fabulous at it too!
Dionne is a marvelous singer. She is one of the few who can navigate Bacharach tunes well. Who else can sing "Do You Know the Way to San Jose" like her?
Beautiful voice of Dionne Warwick. I used to watch the Ed Sullivan Show years ago. Enjoyed it. I'm glad it's on RUclips. The show brings back memories.
Beautiful patriotic performance by Dionne Warwick. It would've been nice if they had posted this on Memorial Day! 🇺🇲 God bless America! ~❤️🤍💙~ Happy Saturday.... thank you for sharing! 💖
"A popular American patriotic song written by the abolitionist writer Julia Ward Howe." I did not know that! I prefer it sung rythmically and not all 'jazzed up', but her intonation is flawless and her voice is perfect.
You appear clueless on what "jazz" is and what it isn't. There is NOTHING "jazzed up" about this rendition or arrangement. This arrangement is in the tradition of a marching band, not "jazz." Having clarified that...."jazz" is America's " classical" music. It is the only music originated in America that is taught and studied in the finest music Conservatories around the planet....therefore, "jazzing up" any music, is by definition Americanizing it, not de-Americanizing it.
This was only five days after Robert Kennedy was assassinated. I wonder if they choose to do this in memory. This seems like a song that could have been played at a RFK tribute.
@@terrencemccoy8219 CBS did not want Judy to sing it either but she defied management and did it anyway. It was a marvelous performance and the audience went wild. It's on RUclips.
you're right one of the reasons why The Smothers Brothers show was cancelled on CBS. This lady could sing the phone book and it would be great, such a talent since her beginning with Cissy Houston in the Gospelaires and the Drinkard Singers👏👏
@@recordguy4321 CBS was eun by William Paley. One man. He had what was at the time called "standards and practices" dept. The "department" would have to hear a song AND read the lyrics before 'approval". The Smothers Brothers were "warned" in 1969 to "stop with the Anti-Vietnam" dialogue. They didn;t like being puppets and so they were fired despite very good ratings. Strange times.
@@hnc52 How do you know? And do you even know the three singers I mentioned? Petula is famous here in the states too. I miss Anna Moffo she was the best imo
@@m42037 Listen to any recent Dionne performances on RUclips. She has no voice left. Pat Benatar can still sing. Debbie Harry is touch and go. Shirley was great until a year or 2 ago, she can still put over a song, but her voice is diminished. I know Anna Moffo also.

Nice to see an unapologetic patriotic performance by one of our legendary living legends. Beautiful.
AMEN!
This song is not the easiest to sing and she does an excellent job.

Beautiful. ❤
Wow a real performance by a great performer ❤
This is true American Pride at its best.
Beautiful rendition of it & she did it to sheer perfection! TY for sharing this, God Bless You & stay safe.
Beautiful Dionne and her remarkable voice
Just beautiful ! Have always loved her 👏🏼🙌🏼🙏🏼💙💜💙🎆

Now I really can’t wait for her biopic ❤
1968. Such a turbulent year. 🙏
Dionne can sing the most complicated songs with such ease
SENSATIONEL 👍✌️

A superb Comment, thank you Michael J.R👌
A later 1963 episode of the 1963-64 Judy Garland Show was also having her sing it, after JFK

It very likely was an RFK tribute. And the audience would have understood that.
In fact, Andy Williams sang this at RFK’s funeral

An entire institution in popular music. From this performance, what does not quite fit me is that cut that she introduces at 0:46...
Dionne had a great voice then. Sadly she can no longr sing...but still keeps touring.
1068 The CBS Censors didn't allow anti-Vietnam songs or songs deemed unAmerican. Choices were 'limited": back then.

Wonder if she can still sing? Pat Benatar and Blondie can, so can Shirley Bassey and she's 83!!
Dionne CANNOT sing any longer. Petula Clark still can and she is 90! I saw her on her 90th birthday in London this past November.
