Thank you for sharing this. This is on my to- do list. I’m paying more attention, and it’s at the necessary point for parts of my garden.

Yes, it is a simple, but huge addition to a garden. I hope my tomatoes and peppers both last longer.

I think it looks awesome! I'm going to see if I can do something similar. I want to protect my plants from the harsh sun - and I have in the past - by putting up hoops around the plants, but I want to also give the gardener (me) some of that. Nice job!

Yes, I understand. I am going to need this protection as much as the plants! Best of luck in your putting one together.

Yes yes yes! I just moved to the South from Seattle. Nothing needs this much sun 😂‼️. I am a single mom and in my garden planning I definitely have included shade cloth, for the plants and for me!
❤ New subscriber, always looking to see different ways people utilize the stuff, RUclips got me.

We put up our 40% shade cloth yesterday. We use pop up canopy frames as the supports because they are easy to take down in case of hurricanes. Yours looks fabulous.

Ooh, very nice. Did you buy the canopy frames somewhere or make them? Do you hold them down on the ends with sandbags?

Just put shade cloth up over some of my beds too. Full Florida sun is too much

That's so true. Plus, reading between the lines when a plant tag says full sun. They really mean partial Florida sun. Oh well.

I have the same issue here in Georgia. It was so hot the plants went dormant to preserve their energy. Me not knowing this in time, I had only a small bowl or two of veggies for the entire season. I found out in late August what the issue was, I cried because I put in so much time and money. I told myself I would not grow anything else, but the next summer I still continued to try. I had mediocre results because I wanted to plant in the ground, the soil here is clay. I tried the no dig method which the cardboard attracted so many bugs that ate the roots of my plants, so last year was mediocre. This year I have some things in Greenstalk's some in grow bags, some in a cheap greenhouse from Amazon and some in ground and shade cloth to cover them all. Something will grow one way or another. I refuse to give up now, there is something that excited me when I was able to go get cucumbers and tomatoes from my own garden. The taste is very clean and fresh, nothing like store bought food.

I have family in north GA. I went to college in Athens, so I understand red clay soil. But, I have very little growing experience with it. You might like following The Bull's Garden. He is in Lawrenceville, GA. He has really worked on his soil. Just don't give up. Every year, you will get better and build on your experience.

@@SouthernLatitudesFL Oh thank you, I am in Lawrenceville too, I will check him out. Surprised he has never been on my RUclips feed.

@Southern Latitudes. This is the first year I have tried food gardening and I live in Northeast central Florida too. I like what you did with the shade cloth. I think it looks good. My husband built a small garden house out of wood and chicken wire with a double entrance door that swings open. It holds quite a few plants. It keeps out raccoons, possums, squirrels and birds. It even keeps out moles, which are everywhere in our yards, because we built it on an existing concrete slab from an old spa. We put shredded mulch on the concrete to keep the floor cooler for the plants. But I am getting ready to build a shade cloth framed screen to put on the top, and after seeing your video, I’m thinking of some flaps to cover the south side and maybe part of the other sides for the really hot days.
What kind of shade cloth did you use, 40% or 50% and do you have a link to it. I know you said you got it on Amazon. I like that it has grommets and it seems like a well made cloth. I got one from Walmart and am not happy with it. The edges are not finished and pieces are falling off where it was cut. I would appreciate it if you could let me know which one you got, you seem to like it. You have a nice garden! It’s nice to watch someone else that lives in northeast central Florida and is gardening under the same conditions. I am a new sub and will be watching your videos. Thanks so much! 🤗🥕🍓🍅🥬 ❤️
