Working TV smoking and on fire

- Old TV testing to the end.
A orange smoke flare was inserted in the TV. fuse bridged, to see what would happen.
It is surprising how fast a fire develops in a TV set.
A small smoke tornado was formed in the smoke plume.
A VHS tape was played on the VRC to avoid copyrights issues as I own the copyrights to the video shown.
Caution !! Electricity is used in this experiment. Always isolate the supply before touching any equipment under test.
My orange supply lead is controlled by a 32 Amp 3 pole contactor which was de-energised before extinguishing the actual TV fire.
( Later today Hobsonville, Auckland got hit by a real tornado which killed 3 people, my condoleances go out to their families )
Back in the day when CRTs were still widely used, some left their TV in stand-by mode even when they went on holidays and from time to time, I would read in the newspaper how TV caught fire and burned down their apartment.
Jeff Krong My brother burnt a house down because of a TV left on standby.
+George a beam cuased by high voltage of negative and positive type of electricity meeting up in a object that electricity can flow on
What is the actual fault that occurs in a TV on standby that causes it to fail and catch fire?
@@BensSightSoundandAuto who knows
haha is that right? What exactly is standby mode tho?
Total LMAO! The TV is displaying a picture of a CRT being arc'd over, while it's own one is just about to burst into flaaaames. :-D
At 2:50 LOL....Those valves are glowin' away in there quite nicely. :-D
I do wonder.....If this was repeated on another TV, but with the implosion band removed of the CRT, whether-or-not we'd get a massive big *POP* with bits of glass everywhere. :-D
As always, thanxx for showing and for taking the time to set-up these vids. :-)
*TOP JOB*

watching a TV burning on a burnt TV!
The end of thousands hours of work ... hahaha ;)
Yes you did, best thing is that the TV's are free and often on the side of the road and often still work perfectly.
"This should only be done by a trained professional"
take it to the tv repair guy now. Then say, ''hey something just happened to my tv...can you fix it?'' ha,ha,ha
+dantheglassman642004 Probably the mechanic gonna throw this T.V on this guy's face? LOLOLOL
mechanic???? LOL
I love that statement, Larry
Awesome to see how much a fire can "explode" a TV set. A pretty-mixture of plastic, lead, glass, electronic, and another experiment (32 inch TV under 35 kV stress) seen on screen before its death :)
nice! that tv worked for a long time. Even under fire and stress with componets burning and popping, it must have fuzzed the CRT picture circuit first? then later got the rest, input, decoder, audio, etc. oh and that sstinks about the tornado.. My condolences go out to the families as well. Was it close to your town? or no? If not, your lucky it missed you guys. I've never been in a tornado, but seen the sky before one. VERY DARK BLACK and calm. Scary.
Nice :D that one is finished!
It's surprising how quick a CRT TV goes up in flames. About 15 years ago my granny had the TV on (~21" set) and in the time it took for her to get something from the kitchen, the whole back was up in flames. Luckily there was a garden hose handy, which a neighbour used to put the fire out by breaking a window near the fire. It took a few weeks to clean up the smoke damage (repaint the rooms, etc). There wasn't much left of the TV, just the base part and a lot of chunky shards of the CRT.
I know what your talking about, i remember the time i was watching the supercar races when i smelt this awful sulfurey ozone smell coming from the TV, my cat was on top of the TV. then all of a sudden there was this hiss sound and arcing inside the tube neck housing, the cat jumpped off of the television when SMOKE wisped out of the vents in the tube neck housing, i ducked into the closet and turned off the breaker to all of the outlets. when i got back into the living room, the smoke detector was giving out 3 sets of beeps every two seconds and the TV was off (because i flipped the breaker thx captain obvious) and the entire tube neck housing was engulfed in flames. thankfully, i had a fire extinguisher and was able to knock it down very quickly. the TV resembled a burnt out wind turbine after everything was done with. the front of the TV was fine, except for the fact that there was a huge crack in the screen.
my sat receiver and VCR survived, but i can't say the same for the cables. fixing the damage was fun, and expensive. as for the TV set, i ended up donating it to a electrical fire safety demonstration thingy along with the CCTV footage of the whole event. I still see that TV at the exposition center whenever they demonstrate what happens. they have had it retrofitted with some kind of LCD thingy and play back the footage of what happened ( edited along with some other fire safety tips ) to the set, on the set. kinda ironic watching a video on the TV of itself bursting into flames.
Title should be: How to generate every carcinogenic compound known to man for just pennies a day...
I saw the Tornado on the news,it was a weird sight with boats that flew on land and such, not something you see everyday. I hope you all in Auckland are alright . Nice video btw.
What do you mean by word "Havious?"?
Very cool mate, that didnt take long at all to burst into flames.
That poor pior flyback! I may of shed a tear for it lol
Did you check to see if it had melted?? Lol
THANX FOR SHARING*

How much is your electric bill?
TEAplays Minecraft $400/month
Jeez...
+TEAplays Minecraft my bill is 800$ a month and electricity costs 50c per kilowatt
+Gaming With Eddie Shocking ! I pay 18 cts/kWh Monthly bill $300 - $400 (±1500 kWh / Month)
@@RODALCO2007 and @Edwards Photography Wtf... Average monthly electricity bill is like 100 - 150 dollars!!
Why you stop the fire 🔥
Excellent! Also what's up with the 888?
VCR and CRT... AHHH! the good old times!!
Why did you extinguished the fire?
If extinguished the fire, use preheated gasoline enriched with 100 percent oxigene...
Yes it did overheat. The plastic flare casing caught fire. I left the heater element on for too long.
Would've been more epic if you'd've cut the implosion band before starting this experiment, then you'd have voltage, smokebomb, fire and then end it with an implosion.Great experiment anyhow, destruction makes for good stress relief and fun. :)
Hij houdt het eigenlijk een beetje te lang uit!
Those trusts fire extinguishers come in handy sometimes haha :)
Goddamn that would suck if it was in your appartement
i know what happens to burning TV's
Great, but what do finish.
Good luck 👍
Now you can have a fire sale for that tv.
I did that in another video. The 6.3 Volts heater popped at 35 Volts !!
It glowed like a lightbulb.
Aug. wonder the fire brigade did not come
surprised it didnt fucking explode
you were trained for this as a professional ?? :) where do I join
Hey Red, I see some smoke coming from Parker James house! Is he barbequing? I could sure use some bbq! (gets pants on and runs outside in anticipation) I am gonna go over to see Mr James. Hey....(cough cough)...that's not bbq.... he is cooking a tv!!
Nice burnout!
Amazing that it worked as long as it did.
Good job to you 🙊
Totally curled
Nice, I didn't expect the front glass to crack
The Sanyo TV''s like that with A7-A chassis series were very popular in Poland in mid 90's.
nice, interesting. yeah the black smoke is half the fun(i have burned more than my share of plastic in my time).
Yes, and uneven heating of the tube.
SAVE THE BABIES
not fare you're wide awake and i'm sleepy LOL
2:10 Why did the color change, you only bridged a fuse. Was the flare overheating to catch fire?
that went up fast....... had a computer crt go up, but luckily didnt catch the house on fire when I wasnt home.... just filled the house with smoke.
My t.v caught on fire before, shit sucked
where did you buy those shoes?? they where very nice :-D
Imagine how many elderly people's houses burned down when they installed their 120v TVs into a 240v socket and only noticed a problem when it was too late.
Did you put a camera inside the TV?
Awesome video of a tv, on a tv, thats excellent! im amazed at how long it took the abuse!
where are you from i saw thad plug for the first time?
Was the vcr a Mitsubishi?
This tornado struck about 10 miles away where we live.
That TV lasted a lot longer then expected.
That Sanyo TV was released in the UK too, gave good picture but the sound wasn't the best.
good to hear your OK, sadly many are not :(
So should I worry comrade?
Doesn't seem like it would be too safe to breathe that stuff.
thats crazy once i had a tv it just burst into flames and died straight away
Is it safe to breathe the smoke? .___.
Yes, the fantastic orange smoke. It loves to chomp on alveoli
no. duh
A wonderful and very entertaining video thank you muchly!!!
hi there :-) cool videos

Is this the main cost of such polluted air today?
what happened to photoninduction ?
witch contry do you live in?
New Zealand I think
From TV,to fireplace,to steam locomotive!
why there are 888 at the minute 3:53?
To censor out the manufacturer on the van.
That surprised me too.
Ahhhh - Sanyo - what can you expect. ;) I have fixed a few of these model actually, joking aside, but that was several years ago. I can't remember how long ago it was when I last fixed a CRT... It was surprising how quickly the fire took hold, and seemed to really feed on all the plastic and internal guts.
Category:Science and technology
Hey atleast he did it right!
What volts / amps was running trough the TV
You sound Dutch. are ya? hehe
Nah, I think he's from New Zealand.
2024
Really nice!
what happens when you switch on a television underwater?
they don't make em like that no more! haha
Best channel for that is poopoogarrets channel
He got a 800 watt amp en blows up speakers
I'm thinking the glass carcked due to extreme heat.

A real 4D FlAmbiLight system!
what was exactly the point of this?
Entertainment. Isn't that what TVs are for?
@@nickduck4885 😂😂😂😂
You destroyed a nice TV...
One of hundred he has laying around, yeah
Nah, it was an old and faulty TV.
@@tea8831 it kinda did look faulty...
The flyback still looks ok, will take it off the remains of the board and see if it still works.
There are starving children in Africa who could have eaten that TV.
bdf2718 They could choke on the flyback transformer
well, now it's more useful as a grille, just add some flammable sh8t, apply some voltage and boom, instant BBQ!
What the hell is wrong with your shirt? Did you take it from a pirate?
Very interesting video
what means 888 in the background
It’s there to cover the information on the car
Why the 888?
What's with the 888
Good choice of video.
Normal 230-240 Volts but the fuse was bridged out.
Yes and uneven heating too.
Hey I wish you could make a video about blowing up speakers using amplifiers.
d
Yeah, what's up with that?
A TV or a fireplace? Pick one! LOL! :D
and then the time so hard to find his head back on OpenGL
one moment, the back was seemingly intact, then after the epic smoke bomb the back had collapsed. that was FAST.
Where are the wasps???
inside the TV!
They are very handy
