Seriously? People are actually defending gerrymandering?

This is why Republicans who are doing this need to be voted out of office. This is the reason we have a incompetent president.

Thank you CBS for bringing up this overdue issue, but why no mention of a potential solution like the shortest splitline algorithm which can be used to guide us away from gerrymandering and our parasitic-looking voting districts?

Both parties are indeed guilty of Gerrymandering as far as I am concerned it should be outlawed my country Ireland did do some gerrymandering but since we use Single Transferable Vote as our voting system Gerrymandering wasn't a big problem in Ireland until 1982 when it was looked down upon and banned I really hope that the US will adopt PR at some point because it is the only way for third parties to get into Congress at this point because both Republicans and Democrats don't like compilation.

    Use the shortest-line method.
Also, as long as we continue with the electoral college, the whole country is effectively Gerrymandered.

Thankfully, the extraordinarily egregious practice of hyperpartisan gerrymandering is explicitly forbidden in Canada.

I made an Engagement Ring for Janey out of Cedar Bark but I didn't bring it with me. ake ten million dollars and contribute to the candidates running for Governor or Senator of Wyoming, Alaska, Delaware, North Dakota and South Dakota. Observe the result.

Speaking of Daffy Duck, how long did they have to look to find a guy with a voice like that to talk about serious things?

Take ten million dollars and contribute to the candidates running for Governor or Senator of California, New York, Texas, Florida and Pennsylvania. Observe the results.

Gerrymandering is prevalent here in the Philippines. New congressional districts or government positions are made to accomodate relatives who also want to enter government and have the opportunity to steal public funds.

Nothing is fixed until these 2 issues are dealt with: Gerrymandering + Money in Politics.
→ It’d be nice to see news coverage on trump’s 6 bankruptcies too.

really important point was made, i feel, that the Voting Rights Act REQUIRES what could be called racial gerrymandering. that’s a good thing, and doesn’t take away from the fact that insidious gerrymandering does occur.. just important to understanding what a cluster this problem really is, when you dig in to the details.

Actually, California is a much fairer state than Pennsylvania. 39 democrats (73%), 14 republicans (27%). 10 districts are close and competitive (within 5%). The state voted 61% to 31% in favour of Clinton. Now compare that to Pennsylvania where 47.5% voted for Clinton, while 48% voted for Trump, but only 5 seats (27%) are democratic. Surprisingly enough 6 seats are somewhat competitive. California has also been taking active strides to make the stete more competitive. 538 made a podcast (The Gerrymandering podcast series) on the issue.
