The dialogue overhaul patch is great, you don't really even choose to fall in love with Serana, she falls in love with you and you have the choice to roll with it or not. Makes more sense to roll with it when you're a vampire with her.

I actually like vanilla Serana. She is who she is and, unlike most of your other potential companions, Serana has some semblance of a personality. Now, if only there were a Morrowind MOD that allowed the Naravarine to join Dagoth Ur, destroy the false gods of the Triumvirate, cleanse Vvardenfell of the mongrel dogs of the Empire and its influence, and restore the 6th House to its rightful place of glory. Alas, the true destiny of Nerevar shall forever remain unfulfilled.

Honestly, for me, Serana is basically a near perfect follower as is. She just feels "alive", not unlike Inigo and Lucien ehich is high praise tbh. Literally the only mod I have for her is one that makes her a bit more powerfull so she's more usefull in combat.
I find the opposite, Inigo seams way more reactive to me compared to serana who seams like she has very fixed interactions with the player and mentions the change in environment
Honestly? They all have their cons which make them difficult for me to get behind. Serena is just whiny, constantly complaining about being in the sun or a cave of whatever. Lucien isn't as annoying, but in order to get the most out of him you need to really spread yourself thin; he'll only train up in things that the DB is proficient in as well. And Inigo's voice and syntax is just annoying, he doesn't talk in the second person like all the other khajiit. My personal favorite modded follower is the Telvanni argonian. He's lore friendly, has lots of organic dialogue to carry through the game, interacts well with the Breton thief and riekling modded followers, and is good enough with magic that a melee player doesn't need to babysit him.
PS: For anyone curious, its Queen of the Damned- Deadlier Serana. It changes her tool kit without unnecesarily changing her appearance and makes her more powerfull without making her OP. Go look up the mod for the full list of changes but to name a few: A) Her Drain Health, which her AI LOVES to spam, is buffed. B) Her frankly useless Reanimate Corpse is replaced with a Summon Gargolye spell. Said Gargoyle scaling with her to avoid being unbalanced early on. C) She has the Vampire Lord Cloak Spell that surrounds her with bats and steals health from non-mechanical enemies that get too close as a defensive option. I highly reccomend it if someone's just looking for a mod that buffs her but doesn't clash with any face or outfit changer mods.
You might like Xelzaz, he's a Telvanni Argonian alchemist/mage and is very much his own person, when he DOES compliment you it feels earned. And if you're okay with a proper bastard of character try Nebarra, he would NEVER directly compliment you. They're both fully realized characters, and (barring Xelzaz's accent, his VA is still pretty good tho) both feel very rooted in the world of TES, and they both have quest commentary, Nebarra has so much that instead of listing the quests he comments on, they listed the ones he DIDN'T comment on. Xelzaz also has skills that will come up in story, when you go to fight a dragon he hands you a fire resist potion, when you're ready to talk to the jarl about trapping Odahviing he gives you some Telvanni bug musk, and he does this one thing during the Dark Brotherhood quest that's just insane. Subjectively I like Nebarra better just because I think he's funny, you'll either love him and get the brainrot, or want to set him alight and throw him from the 'Throat. But objectively Xelzaz is probably the best custom follower I've ever seen, personally I do like him as a character as well, he's very cool and he's nice but not unreasonably so. Xelzaz also has less mystery surrounding him, where as Nebarra has a lot going on behind the mask but you don't outright get to see most of it and have to either speculate or deduce. . Though I'd wholeheartedly recommend getting both because they have interactions with each other. (And just as I finish typing this, I see somone else mentioned Xelzaz! I'm glad he's getting more recognition)

The only serana mod I use is dialogue edit since its moreso just an expansion and enhancement of her vanilla dialogue and respects her marriage wishes.
"I am a daughter of Coldharbour, how can you kill a daughter of Coldharbour?" Not for lack of trying; but it is somewhat difficult, you being marked as essential and all.
I'm using Pandorable for the whole family and most NPCs. I do wish each npc had a separate file that appeared in the folder so you could just cherry pick everything like with Dragon Age: Origins.
Serana can honor my Dagoth, also when the reading comments video with Dagoth, I gotta know if he’s tryna chill with me in Asgard or not. Gotta know if we need more than I should get

i use Serana Re-Imagined and Serana Dialogue add-on, don't get me wrong, i love vanilla Serana too, but there is not much content in vanilla for her and i like to be able to play the game without always keeping my eyes on subtitles (which is my main problem with Serana dialogue edit), i am warry of trying Amorous adventures though, i would need more details of what kind of content than what is listed on the mod page, i don't want anything that would be too bad/out of character

When it comes to modding Serana's looks, I actually prefer her vanilla appearance (her vanilla hairstyle looks the best imo). I only have a few tweaks such as a mod that gives her fangs, a mod that retextures the vanilla hairstyles (makes them look more like hair instead of vanilla's clay-like hair textures), and a mod that retextures the ugly vanilla face textures of NPC's. As for modding Serana's personality, I just have Serana Dialogue Add-on. And that about covers it.
Personally I just want a mod that reworks the dawnguard dlc story that allows me to kill Serena from the start. I signed up to kill vampires not escort them back to their homes and simp for them by telling Isran that “I know this one is different, i spent all ten of real life minutes with her.”
I need two Serana mods. One to reduce or eliminate her whining when you're saddled with her in the Dawnguard quests. Yes sugartits, we're traveling in the day. Get used to it. The other to remove her essential status once Dawnguard is complete. Tidy up loose ends & all that.

As someone who has isolated himself for decades on end, I can understand the need to find companionship, no matter its forms. Still, the Internet has not done Serena any favors. Truly, some outlanders need to go outside and touch grass, maybe talk to an actual person once in awhile.
I much prefer Vanilla Serana. I understand not being able to marry her. She doesn't feel comfortable in churches. But you don't need a church to exchange vows. At the end of the Dawnguard questline Serana gives you the option to dismiss her, or keep her as a follower and continue your adventures together. If you chose the latter, she sounds honest and truly happy to be with you. I'd be happy with just having a little extra dialog where you can ask her if she feels the same way about you, and reassure her that you don't need to get married if it makes her uncomfortable. Then from that point on, if you sleep while she is a follower, you get the Lover's Comfort resting bonus as if you were married, but she doesn't offer barter services or cook for you.

I don't like changing NPCS and i've always been skeptical of such mods, thinking they are merely coomermods, but yesterday I installed Serana Dialogue Add on and I was surprised how similar (if not a little more light hearted) she is to the vanilla one, it was not that bad, it was a nice change for once. I cringed REAAAAAAALLY hard when she started doing THAT scene in the soul cairn though... I almost uninstalled it just because of that. Seriously who thought that was a good idea?
While everyone complains about not being able to marry Serana, a.k.a Molag Bal's used goods I've been personally angry at Todd for not having even a single khajit girl to marry.
Never wanted to marry Serena. I like the character, but there's something that reads as this is a bad idea, marrying or even having a romantic connection to the character. Always thought from her story that it wouldn't be a good idea to start with. Though some of the visual overhauls good. But what has always been needed is a better overhaul of the total storyline of Dawnguard.
I like Vanilla Serana, but I also wanted more dialogue out of her. I think the people who harp on SDA are being unreasonable. I like both. I just like SDA because its more fleshed out than Vanilla.
I cannot get into SDA at all. It's just another quirky Nexus waifu in a Serana skin-suit. She's an ancient vampire with a reserved personality and intimacy issues out that whazoo because of her horrible family and getting boinked to death by Molag Bal, not a perky college theatre kid.
