I just learned that he died due to injuries sustained from a motorcycle wreck. Apparently, he'd swerved to avoid some kids on bicycles, was thrown over the handlebars, and got busted up pretty bad. A paper (or something) at the time called it "avoidable" as well. If you ask me, that seems a rather undignified death after all he had done, but on the bright side, his death inspired a doctor to study motorcycle deaths, which lead to the use of helmets by civilian _and_ military riders.

I was depressed after reading about Lawrence's life after the first war. He really fought for what he believed in and was betrayed by his own government to the point of refusing all the fame he deservedly earned. And he died in such an unfortunate way.
In death he saved countless others.
The doctor examining his body was inspired to study head impacts and thus the science, creation, and perfection of motorcycle helmets began.
A motorcycle helmet saved me from a full face impact with a bird at 55 MPH.
He did not die in vain.

@@cringefest4999 You must read the Seven Pillars. Lawrence was sent to Africa to free the countries from the Ottoman domain with the promise that these countries would be free. It was with this promise that he gained the trust of regional leaders. However, when the Ottomans were expelled, European countries led by England dominated the newly liberated countries, imposing dictators almost or even as cruel as the Ottoman dominators.
Proof of Lawrence's disillusionment with the government is that he refused all military honors and patents that he would be entitled to because he felt ashamed for what he helped to do to the African peoples.

There's one Lawrence quote that I'm sad I didn't see in this video. Lawrence became aware of the nascent Sykes-Picot Agreement in mid-1916, and being an idealist who thoroughly believed in the Arab independence revolt, it started devouring him from inside. In a message to Colonel Gilbert Clayton, his handler, he wrote:

I thought Attack of the Dead Men was the best when the album came out, however while that song continued to be great, everytime i listened to Seven Pillars of Wisdom is just sounded better and better in my ears and they have now switched positions!

I feel like no matter what you're doing, just listening to any Sabaton song makes it automatically more epic than before, I'm literally doing calculus homework listening to this and i feel like I'm going to save the world.
Lawrence is sort of my idol. It's the best example of a brave gentleman officer, who knows and respect the native culture. And I feel very bad for Arabs betrayed by the British after the war - if the hardheads in London listened to T.E the Middle East would be a much better place by now

been a Sabaton fan for years now, however this is the song that gave me 'sabaton syndrome' where on my first listen i wasn't really a fan of it, couldn't tell you why i didn't like it at the time but i wasn't sold on it, several listens later and couple of years and it's now up there with my favourites, very strange phenomenon but it does exist lol.

Remember watching Lawrence of Arabia with my grandparents (nan was a massive o'toole fan and granddad loved war flicks) good to see sabaton dedicating a song to a man history betrayed!
And after all that, he joined the RAF, got kicked out, joined the tank regiment, got bored, got back into the RAF to work on boats, then was asked by Lady Houston to replace the Captain of her boat because he was "a wrong 'un". Fascinating life of an incredible man, who's country pretty much undid all the amazing work he'd done within the Arab nations in the first world war

I'm Spanish, and we've had our fair share of Islamic history (seven hundred years of islamization tends to have that effect on people). I don't know what other people around here think, but I believe there would be less racism and prejudice against Muslims if their history was taught correctly. This song will always have a special place in my heart cause one year ago on Oct. 5 I had this song stuck in my head when I had to put my best friend down. I was listening to Sabaton with him in my room a few days before I had to say goodbye. So Sabaton thank you for giving me good memories with my best friend.

I live pretty much around where he lived after the war. His house is up the road from me, along with the site where he had his accident. The bike he was riding is in a local museum and I can walk to the church where he is laid to rest. He's everywhere!

I've been studying the Palestinian campaign of WW1 and T.E. Lawrence in particular lately (No particular reason other than immense curiosity), reading his autobiography and those of some that knew him during the campaign, (Such as "With Lawrence in Arabia" by Lowell Thomas) as well as reading some of the books that T.E. Lawrence cited as influences for him (such as "A history of the art of war in the middle ages" by C.W.C. Oman) and I just stumbled on this video by accident. It is absolutely amazing. I've since gone ahead and listened to the entire "The Great War" album several times today.
While it is my understanding that Lawrence felt like he failed the Arab people and thought that his fame and status as a hero was undeserved, even turning down a knighting ceremony by the King of England in protest of the betrayal of the Arab people by the allied governments with the Sykes-Picot agreement, he was a man who accomplished some really incredible feats. One of my favorite historical figures.
Interestingly, The Seven Pillars of Wisdom, although technically published in 1926, was not published publicly until 1935. The 1926 edition was a private edition primarily given away to close friends or family and only a few copies were actually sold (in some cases he actually wrote letters to the purchasers attempting to dissuade them from purchasing the book.). The abridged version of the book: "Revolt in the Desert" was printed publicly in 1927, but is, I believe, around half the length.
