    I got a V2 of the Neutrino, and immediately ditch my Q-tron +. No joke, the perfect sound, with a small footprint, and takes 9v! I love it. Keeley did a great job with this one!!

    VERY well done guys! I've watched a few demos's on this pedal and very quietly (because I really am a fan of Robert Keeley, he's a great guy) I was disappointed and not at all interested. Your demo let me know that a) it can get that Jerry quack (how most refer to that Shakedown, Estimated Prophet etc sound) and b) it gets a LOT of other very good and very usable sounds as well.
    That said, what you're really uncovering (and perhaps clarifying for me) in this journey is that envelope filters are high frustration and high reward effects. Yes, minute adjustments can make a massive difference, on some SO touchy as to be almost unusable (from my own experience), but when you get them dialed, they can be incredible. Yes the picking, guitar volume, which pickup, tone, EVERYTHING makes a difference with them which can be extremely frustrating, particularly if you don't "get it" and know what you can find in there if you put in the time. It's an effect that you have to learn how to play and play to. Hell, even when it's dialed in perfectly it's not dialed in everywhere on the neck even, so you have to play to what it gives you.
    My first was in the early 80's I think, pre my first Dead concert in '86 anyway, and it was a DOD, and I HATED it and ended up getting rid of it. Now, I'm, not so sure it was bad as I just had no clue what to do with it. After getting into the Dead obviously I knew what I was after, but even then you can't always get "that" sound out of all of them. Maybe a lot of cool sounds, but not "that" sound, so I appreciate that you're doing that little litmus test along with the more full overview. For what it's worth, I use the Micro Q-tron with good results and also have a Mojo Hand FX Wonder Filter (the bigger more complex version, may have been a bad choice versus the simpler version?) which I have struggled to get what I want out of. Might have to take another dive into it based on this series!
    Again, REALLY well done! You're learning, we're learning (even with decades of experience with them) and it's fun! Keep it up! 🤠

      I don't know what RUclips is doing. I typed out a huge reply to this and they didn't post it and then posted a reply to a comment from another video here. They are killing me.
      Anyway, we really appreciate the kinds words and are excited you are enjoying the series. Glad to be learning together! It makes it even more fun for us.
      Definitely check out that Mojo Hand pedal a bit more. We have the little wonder and it seems easy to get a great sound out of it. As with most pedals though, more knobs might make that a bit harder. We don't have the Micro Q-Tron, but do have the Q-Tron plus coming up.
      As for the Keeley. It took me a bit, but once I got comfortable with how the Peak and Drive knobs worked together it is really easy to pull out that "sound from the Doodah Man" as we are calling it. We wanted a name people who know would get, but are still trying to walk that line of not making the series about Jerry. That has been hard for me, because that is the sound I always go for when I think envelope filter. I am trying to wrap my head around the fact that there are other uses for them. lol
      Lot's more to come! Hoping to release a new one at least once a week.
      Thanks again... -Beard

    Hello, which filter do you recommend between the Qtron Nano, Neutrino V2, White Snow or Microtron IV?

    • @PJandtheBeard
      @PJandtheBeard  11 месяцев назад

      Sorry for the slow response. That’s a hard one because they are all good and will react differently to different setups. We haven’t tried out the Snow White filter, although I may have own one prior to the channel. The microtron is cool and sounds great when dialed in which takes some time. I remember the Nano as being really easy to dial in a good sound. Everything we have had from keeley is great. Honestly, I would recommend all the ones listed that we tried, but I know that’s not extremely helpful.

    So I'm unsure if it's just my unit but it absolutely sucks my volume down when I engage it. Like fully drops my volume by half. It sounds good when it works but it is basically useless on the B/HP filter settings and I always have to be on the bridge. I can deal with only the bridge pickup because it sounds right but the volume drop is just truly truly upsetting.

    • @PJandtheBeard
      @PJandtheBeard  11 месяцев назад +1

      That doesn’t sound right. The HP setting cuts the lows so it will sound thinner, but an extreme volume drop sounds weird. Email Keeley and ask what they think. Great people to work with!

      @@PJandtheBeard yeah I sent an email to them today. The internal trim pots were still left alone as far as I can tell so I'll hope they email me back

      Are you aware that it has a volume control on the side so you can match your dry to wet volumes? Are you keeping your guitar volume at max? You need to. If your pickups are low output, try putting a clean boost or light drive before the envelope filter.

    This one or the EQD Spatial Delivery?

    • @PJandtheBeard
      @PJandtheBeard  9 месяцев назад +1

      That’s like asking me to choose between my children. Both are really good. Can’t go wrong with either. The EQD might have been easier to dial in, but they can be really rig specific and our set up might have influenced that.

    I had been eyeing the Neutrino since its inception, but waited on the price to come down. The price came down with the V2 that is supposedly better than the first one. I got it Sunday, but finally got around to plugging it in and playing it yesterday, and my experience was just like yours: it's a malfunctioning unit! LOL I did not look or notice that there is a trim knob on it, so I might be messing with that. I thought it sounded like absolute rubbish when I first plugged it in...not at all sounding like what The Chemist made it sound like. I don't really like that I always have to be on the bridge pickup for it the filter to really open...feels limiting to me! I'll give it another more time to "warm up," more time to sort it out, but if I can't get it to do right, it goes bye bye. Should I put it at the end of my pedal chain or nearer the beginning before the drives? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

    • @PJandtheBeard
      @PJandtheBeard  2 года назад +1

      Sorry it took so long to reply. The sound is in that pedal but you have to play around a bit. Love the Chemist, but he always makes everything sound so good. I will admit to trying to steal the settings he uses in his videos as a starting point from time to time. Put the filter after a wah and before any drives. At least that is what has always worked for me, but there is no right answer for pedal placement.

    • @OmnipotentSag
      @OmnipotentSag 2 года назад

      @@PJandtheBeard Yeah, I sent it back. I'll stick with my manual wah for now...maybe I'll find a cheaper better one that will have the tone I'm searching for. 😎👍
