Stacking isn't illegal everywhere. It's allowed by the Nevada State Commission for instance and Canelo was allowed to wrap his hands like that for GGG 2. It's basically combining gauze and tape and stacking it to create like a synthetic cast. It should not be allowed anywhere in my opinion. It's like having knuckle dusters on beneath the gloves!

Some commissions in the USA actually permit "stacking" though not many. It is actually very common in training wraps as well though most boxers wear bigger gloves when they spar compared to a bout. Tons of trainers put pre-wrap on and then put tape on the pre wrap THEN start the main wrap of gauze and then tape to cast it. Some commissions have crazy rules about wrapping hands but from wrapping hands myself, I think the standard gauze tape done works for everyone. @@jjfw4098 you dumb f%£##^ did i dispute that? However in a world sanctioned fight, a representative of the sporting body must also be present, they then sign the wrap and the gloves are put on. Anyway didnt mean to curse, im just straight gangster.
You act like stacking is a huge scandal lol. As other comments have pointed out, stacking is legal in many countries or states, depending on the region. So no stacking isn't going to kill anyone or make someone a massive cheat.
A very well spotted and respectful challenge from Liam!
Man you could see the anxiousness in that man's face increase with every second when the trainer wasn't gonna let him go.
I didn't realize that was legal in some places. I assumed it was illegal everywhere! Wow. That's what Antonio Maragrito done when he burst open Miguel Cottos face, packed or stacked his hands. It shouldn't be allowed anywhere!
@@MylotheMask I actually think the accusation with Margarito is that he had plaster in his wraps, which is different to stacking. Stacking your are not using material that isn't usually used, but you combine material (gauze and tape) that you're not allowed to, and put it together in a way that isn't allowed.
Yep , he had plaster
@@Chris_Andre_Boxing ahh ok, it was while ago, it's bizarre how such a high profile fight like that, that someone from Cottos camp never noticed that taking place?
@@MylotheMask it was never actually proven though right? As you say it was a long time ago so I can't remember all the specifics but I believe it's something that was a suspicion based on something they say in photos after he removed the gloves. The wraps looked cracked or something, in the way plaster board cracks. As you say, it's very unusual for someone not to notice. If they had powered plaster on the gloves, maybe it hardened in the glove with sweat? Who knows
Actually....@2:02, that hand looks like it needs a good rebreaking, resetting followed by a plaster cast, not hand wraps.
Did look like he had something implanted into the top of his hand lol..Or never healed from damage
Looked smashed to me
Nice one! Liam takes no BS.

As a trainer, one of the first things you learn is how to wrap gloves and stacking is always told is illegal. Admittedly, the guy seemed genuinely surprised it was being questioned so I don't think he was cheating but it does make you wonder how many others don't know this simple rule.
By not knowing the rules in a professional setting, that is just as bad as cheating. Incredibly negligent.
He knew it was illegal which is why he cut it off and started again before the commission guys got there.
Everyone that has boxed should know how to wrap hands. First time I put gloves on I got showed how to wrap them correctly. He definitely knew what he was doing.
If he thought what he was doing was legal thrn why did he take it off after being confronted. Surely if he thinks he's in the right he'd stick to his guns. Knew he'd been rumbled.

Well played Liam, he may have stopped metcalf had he wrapped them incorrectly. I doubt it but it might be the secret to the power in both his hands. Makes me wonder why he wasn’t being watched over while wrapping the hands

More stupid is that there were no officials present while hands were being wrapped.

He just admitted they've been doing stacking in all of their previous professional fights. Wtf that should be an automatic disqualification.
Crazy eint it, people thought he had power but maybe it was just his hand wraps. I question all his wins now 🤔

Well done to Liam!
On a side note: in addition to rep from opposing team, shouldn't there have also been a person from the commission overseeing the hand wrapping whilst it's happening?
Don't think so, it's up to the opposing team to monitor it
Yep a rep from the commission should also be there but in smaller fights sometimes there not so it up to other fights corner

Of course he knew exactly what he was doing and will do it again in the future where other coaches don't look out enough for their fighters
Well done smith. Why where not the officials present from start of wrapping and then left immediately after then meeting to decide they were not legal ?
That’s a hand that’s been busted a few times… might even be damaged there tbh, I don’t think they were deliberately trying to break rules, they’ve just fought under different bodies and officials.
I think they tryed to stabilise that hand with tape and thats not ok

Boxing is not a Sport to mess around in .
Stacking is totally allowed. In the film Kick Boxer the reigning champion 'Tong Po' clearly dips his wraps into molten wax and then into broken glass and Van Damme doesn't kick up a fuss about it.
If Van Damme thinks its OK then its OK.
for those who don't understand, you can wrap your hands in a way that can make your punches feel like concrete cinder blocks and can cause serious harm to the other fighter.
Could you explain exactly how it works?
This is allowed in Texas and Nevada so you’re saying you can punch with the equivalent of cinder blocks in those two states? Don’t act like you know more than you do.

This is 100% illegal but guess who was allowed to do it when he fought GGG? None other than Canelo, after GGG complained so much, the NSAC actually changed their rules for Canelo to allow stacking. What was ironic when Abel Sanchez confronted the inspector about the stacking, the inspector actually said "its not stacking what they did, only light stacking " wtf does that even mean? Well done Liam, the Smith brothers know boxing guys, if they say something is wrong, please listen to them.

It wouldn't shock me if in Spain that this is legal but I don't know. I have seen tons of kickboxers from Holland use this method too.

Not broken, just a contusion. If anything, it’s probably just permanently like that from years of hitting things with his hands. A lot of boxers have it.

Glove stacking smh
Does anyone know why its illegal to stack? Is it something about uaving the extra padding?
It has to do with the moisture that the gauze absorbs. It hardens and then basically turns the wraps into a knuckle duster
Tell that to canelo
Its more complicated than that, several regions and organizations allow different forms of wrapping bandages, there are some states in the US such as Nevada that does allow stacking on the wraps, while Texas does not.
