Spent 2 days hitting my head against a wall trying to upgrade and adopt 3 Nano HDs. This video saved me, my network, and possibly my marriage. Instant Subbed.
Tony Hallam I am in the process of putting together a home network based around Ubiquiti equipment. I successfully adopted 4 switches which had firmware upgrades completed. with no issues. The next switch is a Unifi US-8-60W and it contained an old firmware revision. No matter what I did there was no way I could upgrade the firmware at which point I started to think that it may have been faulty. So at this stage I ordered a new unit which is a few days off arriving. By chance I visited your Quik Tech Solutions site which I have bookmarked on my computer and found your presentation on 'How To Update a Unifi Device Via SSH: Part 1 Window'. I followed it completely step by step and to my amazement the firmware was upgraded and shortly after the device was adopted. So I now have a working switch and will have a spare that I can keep if my network grows.
Hey Tony, that’s totally awesome! Thanks so much for sharing your story. I really appreciate it and am thrilled that this content was useful to you. What you just shared is why I and other RUclipsrs do what we do. Have a great day!

This advice was fabulous. I knew what I needed for the very reason you described, but I've not done a firmware update on unifi from the ssh before. This was to the point. Perfect!
Amazing how simple you made this procedure, after many hours searching on the internet for a solution to get a couple of new (Unused and in the box) but old(4 Years) Unifi AP's with V3.2 Firmware on my V5.12.72 Unifi Network Controller, They kept going into an upgrade loop and all the solutions that I found on the Unifi website and community websites went into long winded SSH sessions but still did not work. Your solution was way easier and worked first time. Thank you so much for making this video.

Thank you for this very clear walkthrough. I was having a dickens of a time trying to adopt an (ex-work) Unfi Switch 8 (60W) into my home network. Just to share my experience, after performing a reset the switch then became stuck in an adoption/reboot loop and no amount of resetting, leaving it unplugged, powering it back up and avoiding all eye contact with it helped break the cycle. After a couple of hours I gave up and went to bed, before doing so I thought I'd try one last thing and popped the unit into the freezer over night (so it could think about how naughty it had been). When I took it out the next morning, left it to reach ambient temperature, and then powered up, hey presto! it picked up an IP address and I finally had an IP address to work with. I have no idea if the freezer treatment helped in my situation or if it was just a coincident, but thought I'd put it out here in case it can be of help to someone else.
Hey MrRozebud thanks for commenting. Years ago at work had an issue with a HP Laser Printer formatter board. Had several service calls, nothing worked. So my co-worker read somewhere online that heating up the board in an oven at 350 for 5 - 10 minutes resolved similar issues. We figured what do we have to lose, so we tried it. After letting the board cool down, we inserted back into the printer with very little faith that the printer would boot. Low & behold it did, and ran for several years thereafter. Anyway, c Glad you got your switch working. Have a great day.
Tanks for video. with no idea really what ssh is etc . managed to update an old UAP AP picked up on ebay which had got stuck doing an auto update through the controller .

This is the best information I have seen to date for updating the WAP through SSH. However, how do you log into an adopted WAN which does not update via the controller and was suggested to update via SSH by Ubiquiti. The Username and Password, to my understanding, were changed once adopted to something the we will never know or cannot find out. I have been trying for 1 year to do this without removing the WAP and doing a hard reset.
