This is my perspective of the northernmost Canary Island Lanzarote.
It is a movie about the power of the elements, the passion of surfing and finding oneself spiritually.

I lived in the Canary Islands for a year over two winters in 1969/70. Europe was to cold so three Californian surfers ended up on Gran Canaria. At the tip of Las Palmas was a great reef point wave at what we were told was a leper colony. I hear it is now one of the waves of the whole island.
We went down south to Mas Palomas and Arguiniquin. Which were soft but fun reef breaks and warmer. Around the corner from Arguinigin where ships came to load up with cement base material (we were told) was a perfect little reef point. When the Arguinigin reef blew out the place we called the cement factory was offshore but because it was protected it was always smaller. They were just beginning to extend the breakwater for more ships and we knew that perfect little wave was doomed.
At the bottom of the little point was a tiny group of homes (shacks) and a small bar. We'd get out of the surf still wet and drink beers and eat 2 pesetas tapas. Raw sewerage from the homes flowed into the waters so you had to be careful with cuts.
Looking on maps I knew Lanzarote and neighbouring islands would have waves facing north as they did. But we were so poor we had to stay on Gran Canaria. All those nice roads and coffee houses didn't exist on Lanzarote back then
We loved the Canaries. The only surfers was a bunch or lads from the Channel Islands so we had many great surfing days. In January of 1970 Arguinigin reef and the little point was perfect for 28 straight days. Thanks for the memories, nice film mate.

Me encanta como has captado lo que se siente al vivir aquí...vivo en lo alto del Risco... con el horizonte de la arena de y el mar y no me canso de verlo. Es una isla dura que te pone a prueba con su viento sin fin para, de repente, en otoño abrazarte luminosa y en calma, con días glassys y agua cálida que te envuelve como líquido amniótico en donde por fin puedes renacer..

@@user-ei8xl9dx2g as a passionate surfer I can think of nothing more satifying than sitting in the line up over the reef waiting for the universes next opportunity to ride a wave into the sunset :) but I advice you to stay around Famara. It's just the most beautiful part. There is paragliding, loads of great hiking, some caves, rocky and sandy beaches, authenticity on the west- and tourism on the (southermore) eastcoast. Enjoy!

What a beautiful documentary about Lanzarote. I’ve never been, but I’ll find out in October what this island has to offer. For now looks difficult to find a place but fingers crossed!!

"I will not give away the secret spots...." What a joke!!! He thinks he's doing a great service to humanity. If he really wanted to keep the place as it is, he would not be making this video.
Are you the kinda guy that tells people that he'll stab their tires when they surf your local spot? I don't want to keep anything the way it is. I embrace change. It's a law of nature.
