There's a quote from the codex that reads as follows: "That which failed once may fail again." Custodians know that the marines could turn traitor over nothing. Honour led many to betray the Imperium during the heresy. Oaths sworn by imperial knights to astartes legions that turned traitor led the knights to turn traitor themselves due to the danger of becoming oath breakers. In short, to answer your rethorical question... "Do you want renegade or traitor marines?" Eh, sure, add these ones to the list and capture a few for the next bloodgames.

I'm with majorkill on this one. Got no problem w Female custodes, just how GW handled it. Female space marines don't make sense but there is nothing wrong with custodes being mixed. Custodes don't use geneseed and are just ultra handcrafted humans. We know very little about how they are made other than their success rate is like 1/1000 aspirants.
Yeah there's several decades of lore specifically saying that Astartes can't be female due to some issue with the Geneseed not integrating properly. Custodes on the other hand are the Emperor's only perfect creations, at least genetics-wise. The Custodes are more genetically stable than the Astartes and are created to be individuals, not mass-produced like Astartes. Them being female makes perfect sense.
@@TheRedMan77 If they are going the perfect creation route, she should look like a Wonder Woman or Power Girl. Instead, she looks like some hideous thing born from bad mutations due to innreeding.
@@TheRedMan77 The loophole in that reason is the SoS are meant to supplement the Custodes. The Custodes need the SoS since they are weak to warp based combat. So muscle mommy SoS that used chemical therapy to bulk up to at least like at discount Custodes performance is more logical to supplement the losses of the Custodes during the Horus Heresy than a female Custodes. Plus a female Custodes at the time of the paraplegic Emperor is less possible than the Primaris given that Cawl only improved the template and a female Custodes need a whole different set of genecrafting from the male specimens. There are male to female and female to male metamorphosis in the animal kingdom and a female specimen would need to be turned to male in order for the genecrafting to be more successful. Another argument is the extreme traditionalism of the Imperium that a female Custodes would immediately be transferred to SoS or SOB since she would be alienated by the Custodes themselves much like Seth did at first to the Primaris reinforcement they got. Even guardsmen from different worlds have cooperation issues or cultural issues that led to conflicts.

Something about her eyes and the way she looks at people is really off-putting to me. It’s both intense but also cold. Then you remember her mind is probably thinking a mile a minute, considering both possible scenarios, pros/cons, threat assessments, contingency plans, etc. And nowhere in that brilliant mind of hers is she put-off by the genocide she’s about to make these marines do, so long as it keeps Terra and the Emperor safe. She’s the closest thing Emps can get to his ideal “perfected” human and she’s utterly devoid of any humanity and incapable of disloyalty to him.
I headcanon that even with female Custodes being canon, they will have severely overtestosteronised complexion. In reality it's just GW's decades-long inability to sculpt female faces.
@@eyeballpapercut4400 I mean it's not far from the truth tbh. Just look at any super muscular women. Testosterone is pretty much the deciding factor of muscle growth limits. @@Callum38 also in lore, Custodes are usually depicted as a golden blur when fighting. So I would like to think that this custodes was slow enough to be depicted on camera because it was a FEEMALE, and thus much slower than her male counterparts.
So basically, the process of becoming a Custodes probably doesn't require a Gene-Seed transplant, and is probably more relegated to microscopic changes (or bio alchemy) in the individual's DNA from such a young age. From this video, it appears that so long as the template (a young child devoid of genetic impurity) is capable of surviving, the process still gives us a demi-god super being, but the caveat is that females tend to lose a lot of their gender based characteristics since they are "unnecessary" for the rigors of battle. Honestly, if not for the voice, she would probably just blend in with the rest of the male Custodes.

@@SIGNOR-G Malachite knew she would've ended them right then and there & glassed the planet herself with what was left of the White Templars. Custodians don't have a history of responding well to "no."
There's a quote from the codex that reads as follows:

Custodians know that the marines could turn traitor over nothing.

@jahrusalem3658 so emperor was able to override whatever genetic limitation women have to turn them into bigger muscular freaks than your average space marine but he couldn't do so to turn a female into space marine? I like the sense of mass you get when the Custodes is walking out of armour. Really helps put into perspective how massive Custodes are.
(Edit Response - Original Comment below) Coming back to serve myself some humble pie, after touching some grass, discussing with other more fans who started earlier than I have and reading the replies to his I'll address my feelings straight up.
I'm ultimately OKAY with Female Custodes by the end of this (because what is a random shitter like me going to do that will change this?), I don't like HOW GW introduced them especially since I didn't know they introduced lore like "The lore was always like this" which from someone without context comes off as insulting to someone like me who got into this hobby through the lore and in this current political climate, I shouldn't have tried to push my own thoughts in such a unconstructive manner.
I want more representation but GW is doing it by ignoring everything else that would be great avenues like the Guard, Sisters of Battle, Sisters of Silence, Inquisitors, Rogue Traders, etc. and I feel they deliberately chose Custodes because it would generate the most clicks/debate which makes this push for something greater feel rather empty.
I'll be keeping the original comment to remember this L, but I will be editing in this response so that everyone else will know I see and acknowledge it.
(Original Comment) I wouldn't have been mad about this if GW didn't act like this idea was set all along (it wasn't), insulting our intelligence as fans and consumers whilst preemptively calling us bigots for it.
True female custodes are cool but they went about introducing them the wrong way
Agreed, the idea isn’t terrible (some retcons needed but Custodes lore was always weird in parts) it’s just how they tried to explain it away was terrible.
No one from GW is calling you a bigot. Some grifters on Twitter called you that and you mistakenly blamed that on GW. Jesus.
The only mistake they’ve made is revealing it on a Twitter reply and not building it up with a novel or something.
To put into perspective of how lazy it is; imagine if they did the same with Primaris. Instead of the long build up of introducing them in the game and in lore, they just straight up said that they’ve always existed in the first place on a Twitter reply.
@@rossvaljr.3852You think Twitter users aren’t calling people bigots? Are you dumb? That’s the whole point of that platform.
