You're missing the point about Ukraine. Aside from the fact that this is the 2nd land grab from Russia, the 1st was in Georgia, the US and all NATO countries benefit from using Ukraine as a proxy.
Russia is in collusion w China to change the world order. It is in the US'S best interest to maintain the status quo. Supporting Ukraine keeps Russia engaged with all its resources (military, economic, energy, etc) into this war. It's eating up its troops and armament.
The US and Europe benefit immensely from a weaker Russia. Plus, while our enemy is busy fighting another front, it has less resources and energy to fight us.
We have entered a new cold war since 2012 and proxy wars are part of it.

I think it's safe to say no one wants people to die.
However, it is a fact that Russia invaded Ukraine, that Ukraine has a right and wants to defend itself and that it is in the US'S best interests to use Ukraine as a proxy war.
If our enemy (make no mistake, Russia is our enemy) has less troops, less weapons, less money and less energy to fight us, it is a win for us.
That is the whole point of Foreign Policy. It is to use our resources to advance our agenda and keep the status quo; in other words, our position as the first world superpower.
