One thing that strikes me about those who are naturally gifted in any venture in strength is the massively over developed upper back. Upper back conditioning seems to be key to having overall functionality in every aspect of strength. I now specifically focus on rhomboids and mid traps every workout session because of how prominent this feature is. And you know what, it's working. Shoulder imbalances disappearing, lagging muscle groups growing and over all strength increasing. The upper back seems to be the glutes of the upper body. Without them, everything downstream suffers.
It's really interesting that you've noticed this, that's very observant of you. I was once studying androgen receptors in the body and found that the mid and upper chest, the neck, the shoulders, and the upper back all have the most androgen receptors. The study claims that with added resistance training focus on these areas, the rest of the muscles in the body will grow with even very limited training. Alpha destiny has his theories on this as well, teaching people to focus heavily on direct neck training for overall development.

I feel extremely attacked by your comments about unathletic people picking up powerlifting later in life. But yeah, I am actually really glad that the pandemic and martial arts forced me to mature as a lifter and an athlete. Now I'm doing calisthenics basically every day and probably seeing my best gains ever. I’ve also incorporated lots of sprinting into my routine, and somehow, it helps my upper body feel more explosive too.
Great video and thank you very much for making it! I will be making a full video covering the program soon. To add a little context - it is aimed at more intermediate to advanced lifters, the volume is too little for a beginner but for someone that's already strong it will be fairly tough. If you are a beginner there are more suitable programs to run on the app. The reason it's 3 days is because it's catered to people already participating in a sport and can supplement their power for that. Therefore they will likely be training one or twice per week at their specific sport (for example I train gymnastics one per week) taking the total days to 4/5. If you don't do any sports then another optional day should be added. I will make a full video about it very soon.
I find your channel superb Mr Bromley! Really happy that an athlete like this gets shine. I've dedicated my training to a similar endeavor. Currently working on reaching a national level in Olympic weightlifting in Sweden. I can perform one arm handstand, freestanding handstand push ups for multiple reps, one arm chin up, climb at a high level, attain a high level of flexibility and so on, and so on.
Doing flexible and coordinated things helps with everything just like raw strength does. It lets you move your body fluidly and efficiently rather than trying to slowly move your bound shoulders to lockout.
I integrate calisthenics and running to keep my fat percentage from shooting up. It might not be “optimal” from a sport perspective or even the hypertrophy/strength development obsession most people have in America, but I can maintain an athletic body in my late 40s. Competition with others is not more important than having fun. Calisthenics is really fun once you get to a certain level.
Think a large part of it is just that they have their GPP and stabilisers sorted. They don’t get tendonitis in their elbows or achey knee’s because they’re already built as fuck. Scapula, rotator cuffs, wrists, ankles, all strong on day 1.
I see hybrid athletes as the solution to people who like group training and having athleticism in multiple domains, but don’t want the low ROM low specificity and inaccessibility of CrossFit. Im starting a club for powerlifting/calisthenics/triathletes in my area.
@@cheeks7050 Handstand push-ups, burpees, pull-ups, running, rope climbs, and really anything that involves pressing are all things cfit just kind of dicks around with in terms of ROM.

I really wish powerlifting didn’t shed all of the “spectacle” aspects it seems to have had in the 80’s and 90’s. And sumo should have been banned the first time a judge ever laid eyes on it.
A gym I used to go to had chalk board in-house records for the squat, bench and dead, but also chinups, dips, overhead press and strict curl. Really good fun.
@@fatmunch6318 I use it more as a variation to get used to holding heavy weight in my hands (and of course supporting it with my upper back) without all the low back fatigue in a conventional deadlift. If he doesnt pull sumo, he doesnt have a 10x bw total. Surprisingly, as much as you talk againt the movement, you make an exception and leave that fact out. Interesting.
because this video isn't about deadlifts. discrediting his deadlift wouldn't add anything to the video in fact it'd probably take away from it. see how you pointed out his sumo in spite of all his feats of athleticism and strength? that's exactly why he didn't talk shit about his sumo. it just takes away from the point of the video
For the record I believe conventional is far superior and I trained that exclusively for many years to get athletic and have carry over to the rest of what I do. I only swapped to sumo for a powerlifting comp because I got a PB the first time I tried it. The program I made does not include sumo but only conventional deadlifts or trap bar for even better carry over.
