  • This is probably one of the most requested trick tips I've ever done. People are always asking me about this trick, and for good reason - it looks incredibly cool. No matter where I go, no matter who's watching, the coconut wheelie will always turn heads.
    Back in the early 2000s, I used to do a lot of primo slides. The problem with those is that they need a perfect surface, wax, or both. You could do a lot with them relatively easily, but you needed just the right spot to do them. Swapping over to the coconut wheelie meant I could do something very similar - but everywhere I went. They feel a lot more satisfying, too.
    The downside is you'll need freestyle wheels before you can even think of learning this trick - and expect to burn through them a lot, especially if you're using OJII-inspired wheels like the Mode, Momentum or Moonshine/Speedlab wheels. Trust me, though - it's worth it.
    The in-depth breakdown and photo sequence can be found on the website at freestyletrick... for those who find stills and text easier to follow.
    Anyway. Like, share, subscribe, do whatever you please. If there's any trick in particular you'd like a tip for, drop a comment below and we'll see what we can do. And if you appreciate these tricktips, please buy us a coffee at www.buymeacoff... to help keep this project going!

    Ive waited for this one. Thanks Tony. This tip with lockin the leg was really helpful! Thanks for showing this with so much detail, stoked to try it again and hopefully master this soon, its my favourite trick. Cheers!

      Cheers, mate. Hope it helps. This one feels a bit more esoteric and harder to describe than most of the flip tricks. It'll take some real practice - along with courage and conviction - to get it right. Good luck!

    We now have something else in common: I also trained wing chun for several years :)

      I did it for two years a long time ago. My main interest was judo, but I couldn't find a good club where I was living at the time, and Wing Chun seemed interesting. I do miss it - I just don't have time for martial arts nowadays.

    I used to think coconut wheelies were very complicated but you have explained each aspect of the trick through muchl detail. Thank you for the amazing tutorial Tony! Also I wandering if you could make a tutorial on handstands. Much apprciated!

      Yeah, I've seen a lot of terrible trick tips for coconut wheelies over the years, so I tried to be as thorough as possible. Hope it helps.
      Unfortunately, I'm bloody terrible at handstands. I've had shoulder problems since I was 16 so I've never really had chance or time to learn them. I'll see if I can enlist someone to do a tip for them, though. They definitely need to be on here one way or another.

      No, I've not been there since 2017. I don't really enjoy sliding around everywhere for five days - not fun.

    Finally. Was waiting for that one.
    Definitely gonna try out the 99a mode wheels I won at the round up for that one.

    • @greschbandicoot8817
      @greschbandicoot8817 5 лет назад

      @Ben Dyer I honestly prefer the seismic focus wheels for coconut wheelies. They are 95a though. The harder mode wheels might suit the rough UK surfaces more though

    • @stevetheripper7675
      @stevetheripper7675 5 лет назад +1

      Mode wheels are great for freestyle, Coconut wheelies will wear them out much quicker but they have a great balance point

    • @FreestyleTricktips
      @FreestyleTricktips  5 лет назад +1

      I'm enjoying the Mode love in this thread. Terry's a good guy and he cares about the quality of his product, which is more than some folks. I'm very picky about product I actually recommend, but you can't go wrong with Mode.
      Gresch is right, though - the Seismic Focus is the best choice for coconuts, bar none. You'll burn through OJII-style wheels in no time by rolling around on the side of the wheel. The 97a is my standard for coconut practice; I suspect the "101a" would be a bit too slippery and you might lose control.

    Wew. I've been just practicing going into the coconut wheelie stationary and hold it as long as possible..super freaked out about committing at speed 😳

    • @FreestyleTricktips
      @FreestyleTricktips  2 года назад +1

      Honestly, it's WAY easier once you start rolling into these. Trying to get a feel for them stationary is almost a waste of time as the lack of momentum makes them far harder. Once you get on one, you don't need to work to balance them at all - you just sit there until the momentum runs out.

    is it possible to flip into a coconut wheelie? how insane would that look? :)

    • @FreestyleTricktips
      @FreestyleTricktips  4 года назад +2

      It IS insane. I wrote that off as impossible when I first started trying it in 2004 or 2005. And then a couple of years ago, Yuzuki Kawasaki figured it out. He solved the problem by doing a fakie kickflip body varial into it, which means that the board will drop towards the wheels instead of slamming the deck down to the ground if something goes wrong. Blew my mind, and it's a prime example of how something seems so obvious when someone else solves the problem!

      It was Pierre Andre. As far as I know, that's pretty definitively confirmed.
