I would pay and support a show where Evan Puschak is the host. This gentleman is not only smart, but listens so well that the host of the show he's on begins talking like it's his own personal interview. This is a true man's knowledge. Someone who cares about sharing what is true. Something we need.Great guy, has all my support.
You can support Evan's Patreon to help him keep doing what he's doing. He has a weekly show on RUclips, so that's what you'd be supporting. www.patreon.com/nerdwriter
@32:38 : "When people see little kids learn how to walk, and they stop peeing the bed, they're ecstatic, they're over the moon! But we should be thinking the same thing about intellectual development. 'Cause maybe that was a little cringe-worthy, but it's actually a really important exploration." TOM thank you so much for saying this. I spent the first 27 years of my life too afraid/embarrassed to create the necessary crap that paves the way to good work. Only recently at 28 have I late-bloomed the bravery to set out on the "cringe-worthy" path of creative development. I wish I'd had parents/peers to encourage me earlier but boy am I grateful to have this RUclips community now.
One day soon you're going to realize how far ahead of the pack you are to have learned that at 28. Most people never learn that bravery. So well played, my friend. Only great things await you.
Stream of Consciousness that's awesome for you! What creative things are you hoping to produce? I'm in a similar boat; aware of my talents but too scared to start because of wanting everything to be of an expert level from the very beginning.
Another great episode. I really appreciate that you seem to find people I have never heard of and yet find very valuable. Also, it is great as a thinker myself to know there is an unwoven community of very smart people who can share their own path which only then helps those who are experiencing their own unique journey in life. What I got from this one is the continued value of deep diving and research to create framework for knowledge and context. Thanks again Tom!
as someone that seems to stand a few years beyond where I am in time and space, Evan is inspiring af.. He really knows how to articulate his ideas, and throw inspiring quotes out in the process... mad lad
This whole conversation is fantastic. But, that 30-38 minute mark really resonates...setting your body to a physical task and your mind is moving to some other place. That is literally every job I've ever had. Making videos for RUclips is a culmination of the places my mind had gone in every terrible job I've ever been trapped in.
Is so amazing your ability to get so many different people to resonate with everyone and have a wake up call! Thank you immensely for this. It's life changing!
I needed this right now. Perfect timing, facing these challenges at the moment. Enlightening and inspiring. Thank you for your content Tom. You have a massive impact on my life. Appreciate the effort you and your team make.
"Sneaking" a view of this @ work. The Nerdwriter has been one of my favs for a long time. A couple of years later I saw Tom and his Impact Theory. Syncronicity brought them together! Love both shows!
Tom and team, THANK YOU! I love the Nerdwriter channel, I am SO glad that you set up this interview. I want to crawl inside his mind & watch it tick. It seems that we have similar thought pathways, difference is, you two are using your gifts/insights/hard work to put your thoughts and ideas out there in public domain. RUclips IS changing, hence I have no tv, I learn so much from channels and guests like this. I love the notions about the mind being language, that taking time to write those thoughts down makes the intangible therefore physics. I feel inspired to write again at the grand old age of 48 (even if my output is cringeworthy 😊) !
Love that you're going after it at 48! That's young! Trust me, I'll be going hard for that cake long after that. And I too want to crawl inside the NerdWriter's mind and watch it tick. He fascinates me!
23:00 Equating trauma to a narrative the ego constructs which fails to be persuasive is an interesting take. It shows how powerful a belief can be, creating a defense against threatening information, sort of acting as a cushion to soften the rawness of unfiltered blows to the self. You can imagine that when that defensive wall crumbles and a new truth is revealed about yourself, your foundations will shake and this moment of being out of balance is both the end of an old story and the beginning of a new story. It’s a chance to be real with yourself and others, reassess your values and redesign your life accordingly.
Thank you Tom! Evan Pushak is deserves to be known by everyone. His talent, hard work and vision is so inspiring. I can't believe that he has rarely been interviewed on shows like these. This is the turning point for me personally on RUclips. I just stopped following other similar shows because I value the nerdwriter so much and you are pretty much the only one who values him the way I do and you manifest it in this video. I'm pretty sure I'm going to follow you religiously, now. PLUS it's entertaining to watch PLUS you have book summaries PLUS I'm a giants fan so it also helped that you had Michael Strahan on ...
Fantastic interview. His depth and self awareness was simply magical. I was left feeling so connected to him on a level I can’t explain. Will definitely check out his channel
Such a great interview. I love the idea of kintsugi , the cracks the trauma the experience make a person more beautiful more grown. The articulation is what makes the world from your eyes and impacting someone else. Thank you Tom and Evan.
I loved what Tom Bilyeu said after few seconds in 35:55 "... Cause you so want to escape the reality of what you're doing at that moment only place to go is in."
Loved the bit about kintsugi and using trauma as an opportunity for reorganizing a new story. So stoked for what you and the team do with Impact Theory. +2 bonus points for the dope Mos Eisley shirt.
Great creative and analytical mind. Chill guy as well. Thanks, Tom! I loved the idea of "Trauma being one of a few opportunities to change our story". Very true. As well: Eastern philosophy kicks ass. "Water can flow or it can crash".
Hey Tom, I've been following your channel, primarily your Impact Theory series and I want to let you know that within that time frame I've made a 180 on my self defeatist mindset I allowed myself to succumb to. I truly appreciate your teams effort and your effort in bringing top quality interviews with such interesting minds. I basically have a journal where everyday I try to at least listen to one of your interviews and write down as many key points while I reflect on them and figure out how they can apply to my life and empowering others I come across. Thank you for providing such a rich resource, you could be charging for a subscription for these, but you're not because you know that knowledge shouldn't be withheld - it's like you say in many of your other interviews - we're human and we need to learn how to live altruistically. I'm truly grateful that I decided one day to click on your interview with David Goggins after I constantly overlooked it in my recommendations. You have changed my life for the better.
32:00 this is a cool point of brilliance. I feel this relates to what Evan and Tom were talking about earlier with mastery of a craft (or aptitude) leading towards passion(s)/finding a passion(s). Passion and problem solving, and so much more, are apart of the human drive and desire for fulfillment. Earlier, they made an interesting insight into how working toward mastery of some kind, heightens the experience of the thing itself. I know in college I loved my 'Gen-Eds', but as I finally declared my majors and focused on them, their beauty unfolded, and as I began to take command, all the passion and relationships between myself and the the craft and the world itself, revealed themselves. More succinctly (echoing what they said), I liked these majors more as I got better at them. Anyway, that was a long winded way of saying: truth and world view, are the majors, and introspection and creative/expressive pursuits can be the 'getting better at them.'
'and one of the huge things about filmmaking that makes it so great that I hated, was that it was collaborative' YES THIS IS LITERALLY MY EXACT MINDSET AND SOMETHING IM STRUGGLING WITH RIGHT NOW.
Tom Bilyeu, you need to check out David Goggins, former Navy Seal and get him on the show. Very similar to Mark Divine yet not as well known and I believe more powerful and unique. He can clearly communicate the working on the farm story and persevering through pain idea, times 1,000. He is the definition of doing the impossible and I think you would thoroughly enjoy researching him as well. AND the idea of "if it doesn't suck, we don't do it" or expecting pain, enjoying it and just doing it anyways really is the only thing that can get you from point a to point b, or to the finish line. #dontquit #nevergiveup #youwontregretit
Why didn't I had this 5-10 years ago, in my twenties? What you're doing for the millennials is beyond awesome! I can't stop watching you, guys! Lots of good vibes from Romania! x P.S. - Thank you for making everything so easy to access, with all the links in description.
In my view, figuring out your worldview is only the first step. The even harder part then is to ensure that your worldview stays fluid enough in order to bring in contrasting information and using this information to then re-evaluate your worldview and navigate slightly into a different direction. In other words, the hardest part of building a worldview is balancing how fixed and how fluid it becomes. Fixed enough to have clear guidance for how to lead your life, and fluid enough for not auto-filtering information that may be useful on your path to wisdom and knowledge.
I also have a feeling this video will be life altering. It’s like I can almost feel my mind lighting up. I love it. -In a way, this interview reminded me of Nerdwriter’s video on Noah Baumbach’s realistic dialog.
Epic interview...I picked up Mandarin a few months ago for similar reasons...never heard of this guy before this...so thanks again Tom for bringing the secret sauce to the masses
Wow! I am loving all of these conversations. I love the part about kintsugi and went to watch his video about it. Love that the faults are highlighted with gold. I do feel that every hard thing I went through in my life has built me into a stronger and wiser person. I had surgery not long ago and have a very prominent scar on my neck, but I don't try and hide it because it reminds me to keep take good care of myself....not quite kintsugi but close enough. Thank you!
I have to take this "life-changing" university exam in 15 days. Our education system and our society dictate that I have to take this exam and enroll at a good university so that I can have the holy trilogy "nice house, nice family, nice job". Well I am studying hard for sure, but no matter what happens; I will keep on reading, watching and creating stuff as well. And I thank you both for this absolutely amazing video.
Like Evan said, the concept of putting the pieces together like the broken ceramics in Japan to then obtain a better looking new object is a metaphor, but the concept is not new at all, in fact it is a very typical experience especially for those awakening not to just some sense of mission or passion in this life of form and matter, but to a much larger sense of existence that takes place simultaneously on different planes of reality. It could be very often described as a traumatic experience. There is a gradual or sudden collapse (each person has a different experience) of all the things and values we believed to be true (our worldview, to stick to this video), there is a deep sense of having been taken all your life but also fear and disorientation at first (a bit like when Neo, in the Matrix, finally sees he has been nothing more than a battery all his life but he cannot accept the Truth right away). Suddenly, there is nothing "solid" or "real" anymore where one can stand on. It gets tremendously confusing and lonely (to whom do you talk about it? people either don't understand you or think you are going nuts and, unfortunately, you haven't found yet a network of more awakened people who could support you in the transition - there usually is no Morpheus holding your hand) and finally one sees the pieces and processes that make up the ego as it shatters. For a few lucky ones, this awakening is permanent, but for most the ego start reorganizing in a matter of hours or days, the various mental processes that make up the ego re-establish themselves and the illusion of the self, the ego, and the separateness come back. However, after the initial disappointment (you go from being The One to being Thomas Anderson again), one realizes that nothing is really exactly as before. The new "ego", despite unfortunately still being in control of our experience for 90% of the time, it's not the same ego that shattered. Once you awake, you can never go back to sleep entirely. Now the same experiences are going through different filters and, more importantly, when you get totally sucked in and again identify with your thoughts, you are capable of catching it more and more often and immediately snap out of the dream state. Your whole experience (life if you prefer) has now a much bigger and profound sense. Somehow, the pieces of your shuttered ego, once put back together, allow for a "new" and "improved" experience and understanding of reality. And more importantly, you start to rely less and less on your thoughts (which are not really yours, they are automatic processes) because you see them for what they are, tools, very helpful tools at times, but not an identity, and suddenly you start doing thngs not because you are trying to achieve, get. obtain, stop, prevent, grab, or whatever, but simply because the actions come from a much deeper and wiser place inside you than what you thought possible. At that point, you don't need a passion or a meaning to guide you, it all flows out of new naturally more and more as you learn to trust this "intuition" andfollow the natural unfolding of events in your life. With presence in the moment, the new "whole" is so much better than the sum of its pieces. And considering Japan is the country of Zen and its practices of awakening, I have always seen Kintsugi, also known as kintsukuroi, which treats the damage as a part of the history of any object, rather than something to mask or hide, as the perfect analogy of the experience of awakening, with its traumas, its shuttered peices, and the beautiful new entity that emerges.
Even if I'm not necessarily interested in the content, I'm very much drawn to the intelligence that he applies to it, causing me to consider a different perspective than I otherwise may have held. I look forward to watching every one of his videos and adding to my range of interests and views on the world. Yet another subscription to keep up with.
Ahhhh! I've been looking at your inside quest channel for the longest time for new uploads. I'm so glad I found this. Please put a banner or something on that channel so people can know where to find you. :) PS: Your reading list inspired me to start my own youtube channel talking about the books and just general personal development ideas. Thank you
I got to your channel through this comment.. I think you are doing a great job with it.. Keep at it.. Seems like major traction is on d curve.. Keep it up 👍
Great interview Tom, I love the way you run your show, and I see a lot of emphasis on making impact in people and the world, although sometimes I feel that we also need to emphasis the inspiration for pratice. Most people feel great when they see a show, hear a story, watch and interview or read a book, but what are those triggers that actually make them practice what they saw, read, or heard? Most people never practice them continuosly, they go directly to look for the next great thing, and I see it a lot happenning nowadays given the overwhelming ammount of info from experts avaiable to anyone. So I really feel like people that want to make impact should put a little more focus on how they will inspire people to practice a lot the skills that they teach or share. Maybe this is just a dumb comment, but just writing my thoughts out. All the best with the show, like I said before, I have watched all inside quest episodes and will continue to watch all of the ones here as well. Glad to have you back in the game, have a great weekend Tom :)
Thanks, man! I totally agree that people need to practice more. I try to give people insight on where the rubber meets the road as much as possible with all of this stuff. If you watch After Impact, I'm able to go into a lot more detail there. Thanks for the comment and for being a part of the community!
Amazing stuff especially in the variety of the guests that you get. Evan Puschak is pure gold. Loved his content from the start. But now thanks to you - am in love with his thought processes and his personality. 2 other people who I follow on the internet and would love to see on your show are - Casey Neistat and Gary Vee. Thanks for hosting an awesome show. Love your style of interviewing and setting the tone right everytime. Much Love and Power to you - Tom !!!!
Thank you! So glad you like the show and Evan specifically. He's amazing! And I would LOOOOOVE to have Gary and Casey on the show. We are stalking both of them. ;-)
In the beginning Evan talks briefly about biological inheritages in human and I wished for a second Tom would have stopped him there, because at first I thought Evan was talking about talent but then I thought he also could just have meant height and looks etc. (I think he meant both). Then Evan talks about the fallacy of "follow or finding your passion", and I was waiting for Tom to ask him if he read Cal Newports book. Evan sounded like he did, so I was very surprised when he said he did not read it. Even better... the more people realize this independently and spread the message the better off we all are. When they talk about Evans Video about the art of Kintsugi, I had to check it out. It is really good and his works remind me of that by Maria Popova (Brain Pickings). More importantly though I realized that Kintsugi and the philosophy behind the metaphor for relationsips is .... Antifragility (coind by Nassim Taleb). Really cool. Great episode!
Glad you liked it! And totally agree that the more people that come to some of these ideas independently the better! The whole notion of kintsugi is insanely powerful to me. Love that it resonated with you as well.
33:20 to 36:45 is literally my life right now. Working a boring ass office job going on auto pilot at work and spending the whole day in my head. Funny thing is that my boss thinks I'm an excellent worker.
and here is something really crazy.. As I watched towards the end and I hear the word 'Interview'.. It's a word that one never pays attention to, however for the first time ever I heard it with a completely different thought pattern, I heard' Inter-view' as in exchange of views. I know weird right.. But I had to say it or else it will sit in my head.. Loving it
Congratulations!!! Tom I have seen all three episodes. I loved them. I am looking forward for next one. Congratulations to you, Lisa and all the team for this new journey. Greetings from Mexico 🇲🇽
I'm pretty curious about you moving to China story and a few more, unfortunately Evan interrupted a few of your stories. I'd actually to know more about you, Tom. Maybe one day we can have an episode where you're being interviewed in your own show. That'd be pretty interesting.
I sometimes do watch them when I have time, but I think they're mainly for self-improvement topics and not personal life stories. If I can watch it this week, I'll make sure to ask and maybe you'll chose my question and answer it, which would be awesome. Keep being legendary ! ;)
have you guys been in a rush that day ? :D Audio seems a bit off and Evan is out of focus in a lot of shots. Of course, that doesn't change the fact of that this was, again, a great episode.
I love this format of Tom's videos and am generally learning tons. But because have been meditating for over 45 years and reading/studying extensively, I am vastly ahead on a lot of this info. The recent science of the brain is often new to me--ergo fascinating. BUT, I have to comment on the fact that I am compelled to turn away from guests who insert "you know" between every few words. I want to listen to what they have to say, but can't deal with that habit in their speaking pattern. Thank heaven the brilliant Tom does NOT do that. So sadly I could not listen to this guest. The program might do well to filter for this habit....just a suggestion. But many many thanks for these valuable videos.
So good! Really good interview I would love to start a reading/learning journey into philosophy to expand the critical mind I pretend to have. But I have no idea where to start and there is so much resources out there that it is quite overwhelming. FOMO! Any suggestions?
"The critical mind I pretend to have"! Ok... that was funny. Start with Ryan Holiday's The Obstacle is the Way. It's super useable philosophy. Beyond that, hit up Reddit/r/philosophy. Can't go too wrong there. They'll set you up with a good primer.
I hope your cameraman focuses on the eyes and not the ears next time. it is sooo distracting. after a while I just listened to this amazing conversation as if it were a radio show...
I would pay and support a show where Evan Puschak is the host. Yeah, I wanted to hear Evan but Tom keeps taking over the show. Weird coz it's not like him.

I had surgery not long ago and have a very prominent scar on my neck, but I don't try and hide it because it reminds me to keep take good care of myself....not quite kintsugi but close enough. Thank you!
Glad you like the content, and that story actually seems pretty close to kintsugi to me! Thanks for sharing it!
And considering Japan is the country of Zen and its practices of awakening, I have always seen Kintsugi, also known as kintsukuroi, which treats the damage as a part of the history of any object, rather than something to mask or hide, as the perfect analogy of the experience of awakening, with its traumas, its shuttered peices, and the beautiful new entity that emerges.
that's awesome you got Nerdwriter on Tom, I've been meaning to watch this video for a while and am finally getting to it.
31:30 gold.
35:40 more gold.
Thanks IT Team !
Right?! Evan is amazing!
Tom Bilyeu has such fabulous people/interviews on his show- a great way to learn and grow😆
This is a must watch
Wow. After watching this interview, I feel like I am in love with Evan Puschak’s soul itself.
I appreciate this heartwarming introduction.
Hi watching after 2 years again for evan pushack and tom.❤❤❤
Ahhhh! I've been looking at your inside quest channel for the longest time for new uploads. I'm so glad I found this.
Please put a banner or something on that channel so people can know where to find you. :)
PS: Your reading list inspired me to start my own youtube channel talking about the books and just general personal development ideas. Thank you
That's awesome! I'm so stoked that I've inspired you to action! Action is what it's all about. Hope you crush it with your channel!
Tom Bilyeu Thank you so much Tom!
I got to your channel through this comment.. I think you are doing a great job with it.. Keep at it.. Seems like major traction is on d curve.. Keep it up 👍
Good timing for this to pop up again for me to review. I love people, love to play with people, and mostly love to work alone.

Great interview, Tom! Looking forward to following your new venture! Congrats to you and Lisa!
Jax!!! Thank you so much!!! Glad you liked the episode!
Tom Bilyeu And the new set is AMAZING!!!
What happened with Inside Quest? The website, the channel, the company, everything...
2021, just watched it and loved it!
Amazing interview.. This is transcending on so many levels. Thank you BOTH.
The best kind of nerd
The moments he starts to mention Emerson, he starts to sound like his video essays
Glad to have you back in the game, have a great weekend Tom :)
completely agree with this Luis.
Thanks, man! I totally agree that people need to practice more. I try to give people insight on where the rubber meets the road as much as possible with all of this stuff. If you watch After Impact, I'm able to go into a lot more detail there. Thanks for the comment and for being a part of the community!
Beautiful comment.
We are stalking both of them. ;-)
Yep, my true mastership is to bingewatch this youtube channel
Great show! great interviewee. anticipating a great series
So glad you liked it!
Love that it resonated with you as well.
holy shed, this episode is a dream come true, I didnt even have a clue insidequest was back?!
So glad you liked it! We're back and better than ever! :-)
Some great topics covered that I can't wait to explore more!
Damn! Another JEM!!! Thanks again Tom And Team!!! Love from Holland again!
Holland! Always good to see you in the comments! Glad you liked this one! I find his mind fascinating!
hey this interview is changing my life thank you
Great interview as always, Tom. He reminds me of Ryan Holiday. Thank you for putting this guy on my radar!
I get what you mean! He's got real depth to him, just like Ryan.
Dayuuum! Great show! Thanks for this awesome interview! Such a great insight, that inspires me to keep making videos! :D
That's awesome! Glad the show inspires you to keep pushing!
33:20 to 36:45 is literally my life right now. Working a boring ass office job going on auto pilot at work and spending the whole day in my head. Funny thing is that my boss thinks I'm an excellent worker.
Just found this channel. This is good.
Awesome video.
I love this show so much!
This will become one where you will want to watch again and again.. Such a cool mind
and here is something really crazy.. Loving it
Thanks for the feedback! Much appreciated!
You just made me hear the word that way as well! Thank you! I love that!!!
And we are back!
And it feels good!
He's on Discovery? Holy shit I've been watching him for months now and I did not know that
anyone know what Kurt Vonnegut story he's talking about? @36:30
it sounds like the aliens in Slaughterhouse Five but Idk...
This show is soooooo good
When Evan said that having choices is a tragedy, he was more me than me.

Intro music is captivating
Glad you like it! I'm super stoked on the music the team has been pulling! All credit to them!
Love Nerdwriter, but a minute and a half into this guy's intro and I have to tune out.
Congratulations!!! Tom I have seen all three episodes. I loved them. I am looking forward for next one. Congratulations to you, Lisa and all the team for this new journey. Greetings from Mexico 🇲🇽
Greetings from LA! Hope all is well in Mexico! :-) Glad you liked the eps! Hope you like all of the new ones as well!
I'm pretty curious about you moving to China story and a few more, unfortunately Evan interrupted a few of your stories. I'd actually to know more about you, Tom. Maybe one day we can have an episode where you're being interviewed in your own show. That'd be pretty interesting.
I do an AMA series where the community gets to ask me any questions they want! If you want to ask me anything, join me Fridays at 10am PST.
I sometimes do watch them when I have time, but I think they're mainly for self-improvement topics and not personal life stories. If I can watch it this week, I'll make sure to ask and maybe you'll chose my question and answer it, which would be awesome. Keep being legendary ! ;)

"My personal belief is that the mind is made up of language. You are constantly telling a story to yourself about yourself and the world."
"The young man reveres men of genius, because, to speak truly, they are more himself than he is."
Beautiful.
can you please elaborate that for me? i didn't quite get it. @Casey Green
You do The. Best. intros and have wonderful guests. Wow. Binge watching from the first one!!❤️
Thank you! Enjoy! You've got some amazing people coming your way!
One often meets his Destiny on the road he takes to avoid it..-Jean de La Fontaine
Is there anyway we can get hands on the intro music you used?
What is the meaning of the word hord
Love the show, keep'em coming! Going to go check out Nerdwriter now.
He's amazing! You'll love his videos!
2m subscribers now. Doubled in the past year. Dude. Scaling.
feefingirl like a fish
absolutely love it ❤
have you guys been in a rush that day ? :D Audio seems a bit off and Evan is out of focus in a lot of shots.
Of course, that doesn't change the fact of that this was, again, a great episode.
Can someone explain what they mean at 25:15 ???
They're talking about the digital world where scalability depends upon getting people's attention n there are no doormen to stop you.
@30:00 theory of Julian Jaynes on consciousness :D
Love. This. Awesome. Tony. Uk
I started my chanel 6 months ago. One day ill be as well spoken as him
So good! Really good interview
I would love to start a reading/learning journey into philosophy to expand the critical mind I pretend to have.
Sorry about that! Good solution though.
Yeah.. after a couple of minutes in, I minimized the browser and listened as if it was a radio show ;)
Not the cameraman's fault, that guy has huge ears haha
