    Thanks for the video. I just made the change and its made a light and day difference. Certain records that previously had distortion/static on the high end are now clear. Or maybe it's just that my last stylus was old and needed replacing! :)

    Thanks for good video. Added bonus is AT-VM95 have a series of different styluses, including one for 78rpm records. Using that (if you don't have 78 speed) you can record 78s at 45, then change speed with Audacity software on your computer.

  • @ricksendeavors

    I upgraded to an lp gear elliptical stylus for 45 bucks, and it makes the stock cartridge sing!!!! The clarity of the nuances is amazing! I also bought an acrylic platter mat to tighten up the bass. I love my ATLP3 :) I also wanted a second turntable with a conical stylus, and the atlp3 stock stylus fit the stock 3600L on an older AT USB turntable I had. I also gave it the thick rubber platter mat from the atlp3, bought it a new belt, and it's perfect for older 45's and VG+ records. :)

    Your turntable is just a device to support the cartridge. The cartridge is everything. Most turntables below the 500 dollar price point, now come with an AT3600L, or a similar AT cart. It isn't a bad cartridge. It isn't a spectacular cartridge either. Take your 100 dollar Crosley T400 and change out the AT 3600L for a Stanton, or a Grado, and stand back and wait for a pleasant surprise. (early generations of the T400 had a standard half inch head. I don't think the new ones do. ) Check the specs on a cart before you buy it., and compare that with the specs of the cart you're replacing. Audio Technica actually makes SEVERAL cartridges with the same specs as the 3600L. Don't fall for that one.

    Thanks for your comparison! I got myself an very similar record player for christmas and have already ordered a 3rd party elliptical replacement stylus with good reviews for the AT91 cartridge which came with the device. After some more googeling I'm kinda kicking myself 'cause I could have also gotten that VM95E for the same price. But thinking about it, this makes things even more interesting: In your comparison, you're comparing a conical/spherical stylus to an elliptical stylus, which, even regardless of the cartridge, makes a difference in clarity. Now I'm very curious if I can hear a similar difference when just upgrading the stylus, and I'm even thinking about also giving the VM95E a shot to see how it compares to the AT91 cartridge with upgraded stylus. Maybe I will make a video myself. But I gotta say I prefer one feature of the 3rd party stylus: It's got an integrated stylus protector which can't go missing.

    For a few pounds more you can get the VM95E already fitted to an Audio Technica head shell so changing your cartridge is extremely simple. The great thing about that cartridge is you can upgrade it simply by charging the stylus. I bought mine to replace a worn AT110E and when funds allow I will get one of the better stylus profiles and use the E stylus for worn old second hand records. In my humble opinion it’s a great cartridge.

    I just ordered the AT -VM95E and got for $55. With shipping. I figured i didn’t need the head shell cartridge package bc I should be able to change out with what I already have. But I notice that it doesn’t have the screw opening on top like in yours or most, but the screw attachment is underneath. So I’m now not sure if it’ll attach correctly and should be universal. Oh well, I just ordered it today and love the concept of being able to interchange the needles and the new screw in feature.
    Oh and if this cartridge comes with a needle protector, I would leave it on for installation. Also, I notice many of these video on this cartridge are British and of ppl. my age (above 50) and good to see more ppl. getting back into records and audio equipment.

    Maybe your hifi limitation, you can hear much different. I have the yellow AT91 and the Green AT95e. The difference is quite a lot of difference. That is why the AT95e is voted the best budget cartridge with great sound. I trust the VM95e is an upgrade to the AT95e. I would try it out one day. I have stopped using AT cartridge and switch to Nagaoka. But I have to admit, the AT95e is the best cartridge for that kind of money. If you don't compare between cartridge, you will be tapping your feet enjoying your music.

Any tips to align the cartridge? - I am using a protractor but i can only get it lined up on one of the dots. When I move it to the other - its slightly out of place. It is a bit of trial and error. Try realigning on the inner point after aligning to the outer point. Then go back and forth to each point making small incremental changes. If your still having issues, try turning the anti-skate to zero when aligning the cartridge.

    Brother, maybe you can help me, I've just installed a new Cartridge on my LP3. I upgraded to the VM 95 E/H full cartridge (so I didn't have to replace the stylus on the original RED cartridge). I screwed the new cartridge and followed all the instructions to set up the tracking force and the anti-skating but now when I press the START button the tone-arm lifts up and falls 'out' of the Vinyl. How can I adjust the correct position to make the arm fall at the beginning of the LP?. The sound is great though :-)

    • @justeveryday1881
      @justeveryday1881 3 года назад

      @@UTILITARIANTVUK yes, i did. I did the whole adjustment process again but the automatic start feature still drops the tonearm out of the beginning of the lp. Remember that the shape of the VM 95 fulll cartride is different than the original one (red one). The shape is straight and the original red one is like an 'L' shape. Actually, i noticed that the weight of the new cartridge is heavier and keeping the tracking force at '2' was too much. I setup the force to '1' and the anti skating to '1' as well and so far so good. (Didn't want to put too much pressure on the vinyl and risk any damage to the stylus and the vinyl) So, at the moment I'm using it totally manual, without using the Start button.

      @UTILITARIANTVUK  3 года назад

      @@justeveryday1881 On some older turntables, there's a screw which adjusts the position of the tone arm. I can't see this on the LP3? Let me do some research and see if I can find a solution as I would like to know how to remedy this myself.

    • @cmkilcullen8176
      @cmkilcullen8176 3 года назад

      @@justeveryday1881 The anti skating seems to be the issue. You may need to not trust the setting of 2 for that. Check to see if the amount of tracking force is indeed coming in at 2 grams for starters. Then see if increasing the anti skating to closer to 3 helps. The tracking force is not always accurate. You may have to get a device that measures the weight accurately of grams of the tracking force. Also - the anti skate device is not an automatic trust too. See videos that guide you on the matter of accurate anti skate measures.
      Lastly get a leveler to make sure that your turntable is indeed on a flat or level surface. Actually - do that first! And then proceed..
