Chuck Berry: The Father of Rock and Roll

- When the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame opened in 1986, Chuck Berry was the first inductee. That’s all that needs to be said, really, but we have some more if you want. There are, of course, the standard accolades: one of the best guitarists of all time, one of the best musicians of all time, one of the founders of rock & roll etc. etc. But Chuck Berry can boast one unique honor that no other rocker can - his rock music will be the only one heard by aliens.
Back in 1977, when NASA launched the Voyager 1 and 2 space probes into deep space, they included two copies of a golden record that contained a collection of sights and sounds of life on Earth. Therefore, if thousands, even millions of years from now, an intelligent alien species would find the probes, the golden record would act as a sort of time capsule. Among other things, the record includes a diverse 90-minute selection of music, carefully picked by a committee led by Carl Sagan to showcase the best that human culture had to offer. Only one rock & roll song made the cut - Chuck Berry’s iconic “Johnny B. Goode.”

The movie Back to the Future introduced Chuck Berry to a lot of people.
One of the few things John Lennon said that is still true, "If you tried to give rock and roll another name, you might call it 'Chuck Berry.'"
Chuck Berry stayed true to his art. Father of Rock is correctly titled even though some are trying to discredit it.
Was privileged to see him perform Inna car dealership parking lot in S. Delta, B.C., Canada. Wanda show !
I was fortunate enough to see Chuck Berry in concert at Magic Mountain in Sanat Clarita (at that time, Valencia), California. It was so much fun seeing this man, who in my mind is the personification of rock'n'roll, performing live. When I hear the words "rock'n'roll," it is Chuck Berry who is the first person who comes to my mind.
_"Guess you guys aren't ready for that yet... but your kids are gonna love it."_
*~ Marty Mcfly 1955*
My favorite story ive ever heard about Chuck Berry was at one particular show he arrived without a band and asked the house or opening band to back him. When one of the band members asked him what songs they'd be playing Berry responded "c'mon man im Chuck Berry, were gonna play Chuck Berry songs" 😅
The kind of ego you just can't help but appreciate lol
My first album was "Nothing Left To Lose" by the Foo Fighters. It still holds up.
My first Abum was in Flames: Colony. Absolutely loved it! Anyone else here feeling the fire?🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Same, actually. I think I still have it too. Absolutely epic album. I think after that I bought Soilwork's Predator's Portrait.

chuck berry was a legend, 'you never can tell' is my favourite.
The change of host was a little jarring at first but you seem to have gotten comfortable and I like that you're adding your own personal touch and encouraging light hearted conversation as an engagement tactic.
My first album was probably "Sergeant Pepper". As a child, I was looking at the cover for hours, asking my parents about all the people featured on the cover. After a while, the record was totally scratched (I was about 3-4 years old), so my parents had to buy a new one and I got the scratched one to look at as long as I wanted to.
My mom's cat is named Sergeant Pepper lol
Okay imma give you a deserving chance sir… Let’s see what you got bud… cheers from Texas

I think the first album I ever bought with my own money was “…And In This Corner” by DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince. So yeah. I’m a child of the 80s.
Also I dig the John Cena “Never Give Up” sign in the background.
I can’t remember the very first album I bought, but I remember having best of albums for Buddy Holly, David Bowie and The Ramones when I was a kid/teenager.
Man Karl is growing on me
If Simon (unlikely) decides to return, you two could rotate each video so we get the best of both worlds
Chuck was notoriously difficulties to work with. He didn't tour witha band of his own. He required the venue to hire local musicians to support him at a gig where he would be booked. And he would require the band assembled for a particular gig to not only know his songs without having rehearsed with any of them, but to also know what song he was going to play once he started playing. Nevertheless, everyone wanted to play with him.
The most important guitarists of rock history began due to his influence. George Harrison and Keith Richards among others have claimed Chuck as the reason they started playing, to the point that we have no idea whether either of them would have ever picked up a guitar at all, without him. That influence alone makes him the most indispensable guitarist in rock history.
Bruce Springsteen can vouch for that!
YES, most of us have seen the angry quarrel between Berry and Keith Richards (of the Stones). Berry wanted it done a very certain way.
True. Plus, he also required cash immediately after the show
This Aussie met Chuck Berry when I was 16 (1979); he'd just stormed off stage & ended the show after twice politely asking the audience to stop throwing flowers etc on stage while he was playing. (As almost ALL musicians do.) He was in a rage vowing never to return to my home town. (Cairns.)
But when I hesitantly asked him for his autograph, he became the epitome of grace & good manners and kindly gave it with a "thank you son".
Age 20 (1983) & in Army uniform I bumped into him at Melbourne Airport. I asked him again for his autograph (as I'd lost the 1st one) and we had a lovely chat in the minute or so. (Although he didn't serve, he respected the Armed Services; Hence "Too Much Monkey Business" - can relate to that one!) I still have that autograph! (Can scan & send; he also included a "happy smile".)
He was a gentleman to me & I think you underestimate his genius & influence. (Almost every guitarist since ... Beatles, Stones, AC/DC, Clapton ... etc etc.)
Nobody is perfect.
Lol nobody is perfect, he filmed women in the bathroom in his restaurant.
The first album I bought was Swimming - Mac Miller, although I also bought a Fleetwood Mac compilation, and a Tracy Chapman compilation on the same day, but I wouldn't count those as albums.
“I grew up thinking art was pictures until I got into music and found I was artist and didn’t paint”
Chuck Berry
Chuck Berry stayed true to his art. Father of Rock is REALLY deserving! Please guys do Carolus rex of sweden next!
1st album was the specials " the specials " still love ska
Chuck Berry is the greatest
great piece, thanks
I got to see Chuck Berry live at the University of Arizona in Tucson somewhere around 1978
"Yes, that is my real name." 😂 Nice first album, absolute classic power metal album.

You should do more videos on Rock n’ Roll guitar legends like Jimmy Page and Eddie Van Halen etc. That would be amazing
Best bio of him I have seen. After all this time, I never thought I'd learn something new about this man, but now I have.
You’ve improved greatly. Thank you.
The true king of rock n roll Chuck Berry and my first album (CD) i bought and really remember ... Peter Tosh- legalize it.
First album…Grease soundtrack. Yes, it was a new movie at the time…
My sons first album was Godsmack 🤟🤟

First album I ever bought was Let Go by Avril Lavigne. Clearly im a 90’s/00’s Canadian kid
I don't remember my first album but the first record, a 45, was Crystal Blue Persuasion. I still love that song so many years later.
I've already told you you are just fine as a host - stop fishing for compliments!
as for the first album I bought - no idea, probably wasn't too formative, but I was wild in my teens, I used to hunt down special editions from abroad to get the better mst obscure edition, but yeah I loved buying pop-punk or teen pop albums and blasting them all the way to school during lunch time
The Bowie song was "The Laughing Gnome" & it's one of those really amusing little ditties that sticks with you.🤪
I wasn't going to share mine because it's a tad bit embarrassing but with all the haters jn the comments I want to make Biographics team snort smile at my comment.
When I was 6 years old I asked my Aunt to take me to buy Michael Jackson's album Dangerous. I played that tape over and over again for years.
A couple of years later I once again asked my Aunt to take me to buy an album. This time it was The Prodigy's Fat of the Land. Which also got many good years of use. My poor aunt was left wondering what happened to her adorable niece singing "Heal the World" and when was she replaced with a tween screaming "I'm a fire starter a twisted fire starter" 😂😂😂
Karl you're wonderful. Never change and please don't ever leave us 💙💙💙
First album I ever bought was nine live by Aerosmith ,I'm 38 years old
Karl! Change is hard but I'm slowly getting used to you. Soon I will love you lol
"You know that sound you're looking for?"
It may seem stupid but the first album I bought at 11 years old was the sound track to "The Lion King"
My first album i bought was Pokemon the First Movie soundtrack, then Nsync, then Fall Out Boy. Let's talk who's a real nerd lol
so the first album I bought wasnt actually the first album I recieved as for my youth group I won a bunch of my youth leader's old cds. but the first album I can remember actually buying was Manafest Citzen's Activ cd back in 2008.
My first album was either Dr. Feelgood or Highway to Hell, whichever I picked up first since they were purchased at the same time.
My first Album i owned was Queen A Kind of Magic. The first Album I ever bought was Metallica Ride the Lightning. I highly suggest both!
The first album I bought was Elton John's Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, with the yellow vinyl discs.
My first album was Mary J Blige's My Life. My grandmother took me to the Sam Goody's for my birthday and told me to pick out a cassette.
First album was Brave and Crazy and it still sounds good. Another good episode sir.
My first album was N*SYNC's No Strings Attached. Still a banger.
💀
Mine was backstreet boys millennium 😂

Remember that time Chuck Berry whipped Yoko in the back of the head with an amp cord?
Lol, never heard of this 😂😂
A fellow fan of Dragonforce! The first album I bought with my own money was their "The Power Within" album the day that released. It might be my favorite overall album of theirs.

You're awesome karl! Hearth please ❤❤❤❤❤
Chuck Berry IS Rock n Roll.
My first album was Iron Maiden, The Number of the Beast.
This new guys pretty good…growing on me.
David Bowie pronounced the first syllable of his surname (Bow) as you would a bow tie not as an action of bending the middle of the body and not to be confused with boo as in the knife - although this is where he got the idea from 💜
High quality, entertaining bios. I’d like to see one on Iggy Pop. The world needs more of this. 😊
My first was "Songs from the Wood" by Jethro Tull.
Yeah, I was a weird kid.
The first LP I bought for myself. was David Bowie's "Scary Monsters" I had previously bought Queen's "The Game" for my best friend on his 16th birthday, when it was first released.
Snoop Dogg, Doggy style is the first album I bought for myself
There is an amusing story that Keith Morris of the Circle Jerks & Off! told once about how Chuck Berry came to one of his shows & asked to play with him. Keith of course said yes, but when it came time to play the band was not sure what song Berry had wanted to play, because Keith did not believe in sound checks. They only figured it out when Chuck berry went into the Chores & started singing "Roll Over Beethoven".
Wish it had included Chuck's timeless music.
First album I ever bought was Duran Duran Seven and the Ragged Tiger on cassette.
He hadda have the infamous bag of $3000 (or more as the years went on) in hand before he played.
I think my first album (it's been around 40 years) was a kind of greatest hits from Spike Jones and the City Slickers. Music because of my parents. Spike Jones was more their era, but still awesome today, IMO. Might make an interesting video about him...
My first album was 7800 degrees Fahrenheit by Bon Jovi
I miss Simon but am happy with his young man. He speaking voice is quite pleasant, and I am getting used to the tattoo. I know it is Art. My son has explained that to me.
I just have to watch Simon on one or two or three of his other channels 🤔
Good luck, young man!
First album I ever bought for myself was hybrid theory by linkin Park. It came at just the right time as I was about 13 when I first heard it. After hearing it for the first time I officially became a teenager
