"No one *CARES* what was in the jar, because *BOXES* are just *BETTER* "
*ICONIC*
"I got a jar of diiiiirrrrt"
A British deliveryman with a personality and a desire to chat? Preposterous.
Ah, so you spotted the trap as well. Well done!
Haha Hermes
My daughter was born 26 years ago, and I gave her the middle name of Pandora. To this day, no matter what mischief she makes, she always gives me hope.
Yeah Pandora's Box sounds much better than Pandora's Jar.
Pandora’s Pot.
@@fancyshmancypants That's even worse than Jar.
The Pandoras jar contains all of the evil pickles that humanity deserves
@@samuelsvrcek4547 Still doesn't sound as good as Pandora's Box.
If the box had been delivered to me, humanity would have been safe. Not because I would have resisted temptation, but because I'm such a lousy housekeeper that it would have been lost under a pile of junk within minutes and utterly forgotten. Too bad.
Sarah Leonard I would’ve chained it up, put it in a box of cement, seal it in a rust resistant box, have rust resistant weights attached to it, and then dump it in to the deepest under water trench in the world.
I can’t relate but there’s people like u out there to save me lol
And so concludes our epic tale of Sarah the Absentminded and how she saved our reality from the Horror's of Pandora's Jar.
thanks for what you would have been done, but Zeus would strike it and burn everything surround it or/and made some lovely animals play near it. So, local kids, scientists, news, raccoons would open it.
I'd give it a cement bath in a nice, deep hole.
The box most NEVER be opened
Kratos: Hold my beer.
BOY, hold my beer
Enoch crap forgot to add boy in there. Oh well.
I think you meant, "Hold my boy."
Pandora: *Opens box again*
Humanity: Don’t do that, don’t give me hope
Darold Williams Most underrated comment on this video and best line in the movie.
I always knew the myth as the box containing all the evils of the world. What baffles me is that while the hope was inside, no one considers it an evil... which it totally is.
'Hope clouds observation' - Dune
Of all the beasts let loose upon the world by Pandora, Hope was, by far, the most insidious. It allows you to persist, and thus to continuously suffer from all the other evils.
The box must never be opened.
Kratos opens it (twice).
Fiction
@@JohannesVanDerStuyvebode technically all of it is
Damn right I'm opening in the Box. The cat is neither alive nor dead until I look in the box.
Genki Dama Trunks nah according to schroedinger the cat is both alive and dead at the same time until you look :p
True
But not according to J green
Gamer Jaqi not according to J green
@@gamerjaqi7873 We can all use google to look cyber clever. Only problem is that we can ALL recognise when others do it!
There is an interesting version of prometheus and fire told by Plato where there the fire isn't a literal one, but represents creative power.
I mean its clear that the fire is a metaphor for something else so yeah
I like a theory in the comments saying that Zeus did it so humanity had to ask for his favours and be dependent on the gods, consolidating his power. Also i like my teacher's version saying Pandora's mistake wasn't opening the box but closing it to soon out of fear, letting hope trapped inside. And now people can't find real hope if they don't look inside themselves.
So, Mythology & Fiction Explained, what you're saying is, "Zeus created the main point that cause so much strife between Hera and Zeus (and a lot of the other gods) when he had Pandora created." Remember, kids, when you seek revenge, never create anything you're going to want to diddle later.
Lol

Good on ya, algorithm.
“No one cares what’s in the Jar because, Boxes are just better!”
Hahahahahaha, I lost it there. 😂
I think Pandora's box is a representation of the challenges of human existance. Originally there were only men, in a sense, they were all the same and thus in perfect harmony, but also stale and unchanging. Pandora, the first woman, brought diversity, and thus chaos to humans, but also hope. She did damn humanity, but also gave us freedom and the possibility for change and finding happiness. Much like Eve, women are often seen in mythology as chaotic, but also the source of possibility hope (in the case of Eve the hope for Salvation) and renewal.
I think Pandora's box contained feminism which is why it should never have been opened. Now go in the kitchen and get me seven deadly sin sandwiches. anom, nom
Pandora, the first woman, brought me my first sandwich.
At Uni we discussed this myth a fair bit especially the fact that hope was the only thing that remained in the jar. As everything else flew out and was unleashed on the world and hope stayed behind, does that mean that we in reality do not have hope? We generally agreed that it was not Pandora's fault that she opened the box/pythos as she was fated to do so but this question was something we never agreed on. Gotta love those classics discussions.
I can't watch right now, as I'm having breakfast, but I wanted to say, there was a news article from December last year about games or whatever, and the reporter said something along the lines of "All hope is gone with Pandora's box now open." I had just watched your older video about Pandora's Box and just kinda blinked at the stupidity of that statement. So just thought I'd say that 'cause I haven't gotten an opportunity until now.
@Lord Odysseus / I absolutely agree with you. The reporter’s statement essentially contradicts what Pandora’s box symbolizes, which is: although all evil was released, HOPE escaped (from the box) as well.
If it were a pickles jar, I'd probably open it. The box? Eh, not so much.
Jack Linde pickle box?
What if it's a box of pickle jars
What did Matt Damon ever do to you??🤣🤣
I think the better question is: "What DIDN'T Matt Damon ever do?" (It's a much shorter list.) 😜
Matt Damon will save us all 😂
It's obvious that he's M. Night Shamalan.

A literal hell in a box & that's why mankind is suffering now
No the fall is
No the winter is
No the summer is
no the spring is
Let's just agree that the four seasons have their pros and cons
Rumor has it Pandora's Box smells like Tuna

Funny, a little crude, but it does open up an interesting line of interpretation.
Lmfao, mythology humor
🤦😏
Quick question. If Pandora was the first woman, what exactly did Prometheus create? Literally just man?
Pretty much the world's first sausage party. ;)
Yup. The Ancient Greeks assumed women were lesser beings, basically.
@The Gray Ghost not all religions.
There were religions of balance. But mostly male over female.
For sure. Greeks were very misogynic even for their times. For example the Etruscians in contrast treated women far more fair and equal.
It doesn't matter whether it's a box or a pithos
The message of the story is what's important
Hi from Romania! I would open it in a heartbeat! sorry humanity but would take the gamble!
The start sounds like an ASMR story...i loved it!
8:57 I heard that Athena secretly put it in there to help mankind.
Zues:"heres a box. Dont open it."
Pandora:*opens box*
Prometheus:"God dammit woman!!"
pandora’s box has always been my fav myth, i love this
Sean M i love that one too they have such bittersweet stories, hades and persephone are also my favorites!

Talking about Pandora’s box
Skyrim music in the background
It's a very beautiful story and the art that represents it tends to be just as awe inspiring!
I absolutely loved how you did this.
I find Greek mythology so FASCINATING and INTERESTING! 🧐💕
If Zeus had wrote in the message : “OPEN THE BOX NOW!” Then Pandora might have been suspicious of it’s contents.
If he wrote : “DO NOT OPEN THE BOX!” she would be tempted. This he obviously knew and it’s how humans sometimes operate! Reverse psychology...
I wouldn’t have opened it, unless it was sparkly and bright shiny pink (pink lover, here) then I’d have been tempted.. maybe... 🤷🏻♀️🤔 lol.
Notif squad ❤️
So excited to see another great mythology video

George Ayman Needed to scroll way to far for your comment.
I cannot believe I never put the trope of Pandora's box together with the puzzle box in Clive Barker's Hellraiser books before now.
I knew a woman called Pandora once. Never saw her box though!!!
Lmao
What a shame.
🤣🤣🤣
Found this about Pandora on Wikipedia. Probably not the best version of the story. ------ After humans received the stolen gift of fire from Prometheus, an angry Zeus decides to give humanity a punishing gift to compensate for the boon they had been given. He commands Hephaestus to mold from earth the first woman, a "beautiful evil" whose descendants would torment the human race. After Hephaestus does so, Athena dresses her in a silvery gown, an embroidered veil, garlands and an ornate crown of silver. This woman goes unnamed in the Theogony, but is presumably Pandora, whose myth Hesiod revisited in Works and Days. When she first appears before gods and mortals, "wonder seized them" as they looked upon her. But she was "sheer guile, not to be withstood by men." Hesiod elaborates (590-93):
From her is the race of women and female kind:
of her is the deadly race and tribe of women who
live amongst mortal men to their great trouble,
no helpmates in hateful poverty, but only in wealth.
I've always wondered what hell/underworld would've been like if Zeus was running it.
Likely more populated, considering his appetites.
I want my GPS to have the Matt Damon cutout's voice 😂
"I am your ordanary averege very nosy messenger"

Thanks for the videos on mythology and Legends very informative about some of my favourite myths and legends especially some of the myths from different cultures that I have not heard of ie chitulu Irish and Egyptian myths gods and legends. I especially enjoy Greek mythology
Why send a gift box if it would not be allowed to open? Curiouser and curiouser.
kirby march barcena Zeus couldn't handle the contents? The box unleashes the truth of hope vs false hope? Just possibilities from a Zeus perspective...that's probably ignorant as Funk.
To be honest as a believer of Zeus and the Olympians through my thoughts of what Zeus gave us hope dispite giving us so much suffering mainly so we can still live on despite death going on every day in the world because he wants us to continue existing, with hope and courage despite Zeus not given us courage i see it as being born from hope and gave us the abilities needed to move on.
So in a matter of sense Zeus does truly care about us even though he inflicted us with so much evil in the world, but he does as if we are his own children, in which we are in a way despite being born from clay.
The same ways how for an example our fathers who even though punished us when we were little that still doesnt mean they care about us and what we do, or a military sargent who constanly gets on our nerves on daily training to make sure were in shape, they do it because they care so much and they dont want us to be buried 6ft under the ground because we werent strong or fast enough to make it out okay so we can see our loved ones again.
And yes i get this question alot from people 'if Zeus exists then what about the city on mount Olympus then and why cant we see it?' and the answer to that is its basically heaven, its not a place we cannot find or actually go to in our plane of existance, i belive once its our time to go we will be able to finally reach Zeus' golden gates and finally be accepted amongst the gods with everlasting love and peace
I found this somewhat entertaining as I was playing Borderlands 3 while watching this and the main planet in the game is Pandora.
Delivery man: "Something about a cat named curiosity."
Me: "Schrodinger's cat is in there?" *Opens box*
What's in the boooooox!!!
Gwyneth Paltrow's Head: Hold my beer.
Jst dis channel, one ov da best on u-tube, informed videos en great making👍👍
I read where Pandora opened the jar and then closed it and only a small amount of bad things were let out then Zeus spreads a rumor that pandora has a treasure and people trying to open the jar so pandora hides the jar inside other objects and goes on a journey she fails several times and more things are let out the last item she place the jar is a box so both are right pandora was given a jar but at the end she has a box
"What's your pleasure, sir?"
Nice ♥ all your video's.
Couldn’t wait till I get home and enjoy this while laying down
I so love and adore Pandora ❤
This is fascinating because through the whole video, I was getting a very different morale and then at the end I understood why.
Most people believe Adam and Eve were just a ditsy pair of innocent victims and this echoes (or even led to) the tale of fatale Pandora, but it glosses over one very important detail. In the Garden, the Deceiver very clearly said that the forbidden fruit would make us humans "as God". And ever after, every sin in history can be traced back to our desire to answer only to ourselves.
It's a far more lofty and elegant fall from grace, in my opinion, than "curiosity killed the cat".
Our play was Pandoras Box!
And my role was Hope..^^
Yay
Great vid.👍 . It's good that you explain other story's of Pandora box. I mean jar. Whatever Lol.😁.
Having that delivery guy I probably would have called the bomb squad.
Actually, Zeus DID take fire away from man, and Prometheus simply gave it back to them by lighting a torch from the sun.
I must find me a man who is both, funny and smart, to share with me any new findings and stories to help expand my knowledge... so until I meet you in person I suppose watching your videos should suffice hahaha
I would have tried to not open the box but after time I would have open the box because of curiosity.
The version I learned Pandora quickly closes the box when all the bad things flew out. Trapping one inside, and that was foreboding.
thank you and all the best for the rest of 2019. may 17 2019
I've heard the version of this myth where Hermes was the person that snuck hope into the box.
Can you do a video on irminsul and or make some merch with its depiction please
I heard it was a metaphor for the waters of life and Pandora was not to touch them. She aloud curiosity to win and went swimming anyway. And fish have never smelt the same.
@Death Merchant / I think you meant “allowed”😉.
Modern potters often refer to lidded containers as boxes particularly if they do not have a bottle or vase like shape. So box isn't really mistranslated if you look it as pottery jargon. Never-the-less it does give most people the wrong idea.
I had read one version where after all the evils had fled, there was one evil in the box/jar. That was absolute despair, that nothing would or could get better. This was still trapped in the box/jar.
He put hope in the box so that humanity can prolong their suffering. If they lose the will to live it will be quick, but if they have hope it will last eternity.
That’s also the reason the underworld was created, for Prometheus’ creations to go to and be tormented after their death. Because he despised humanity. So, at the time they all believed that after death they were doomed to suffer
Hey can you please make a video about Achilles and Patroclus.
I first heard the story as Pandora knew what was in the box and opened it anyways, following the directions of her creators.
The box is meant for a big purpose.
By the Daleks! 😆 Whovian for life!
Bingeing this stuff, love how Skyrim music is playing, it's like a lore vid lmao
The captions reeeeally got me cracked up. "P#s$ jar" apparently
I'm guessing the delivery man is hermes?
I enjoy your vids man always interesting I'm just not a huge cathulu guythough
I loved the Skyrim nighttime theme lol.
I wonder if the original mystical jar of the story is where genies in a bottle came from, or if that is a completely different origin story.
Any idea what the next 'Exploring magic' episode is?
That mail man at the start of the video was obviously hermes.

Cuz christianity ripped off a lot of myths and stories
Cuz christianity ripped off other creation myths

@@Spongebrain97 Lol, the story of Adam & Eve wasn't created by Christians 😆, but Jews.
Besides, ever considered the idea that similarity of multiple sources = greater historical credibility?

This story always kind of reminded me of a Dybbuk Box
Someone opened King Tuts cursed box in 2019 for the 1st time, there was nothing inside. Cue 2020.

Fairy kind is something I haven't seen I believe you.
I'd open even though it would cause issues upon the earth but one thing must be out. It is Hope. It can make a person fight against all the evils in the world. Only hope is what can assist humanity throughout the biggest fights in their lives.
