rdavidr Gavin Harrison from porcupine tree has done the same thing. He hardly uses any splashes just a bunch of cut out bells. 👍 Keep the amazing videos coming!
The bell sounds surprisingly good. I would swap it against my (very old) Sabian bell anytime. Apart from that: I really love your videos. They offer the perfect mixture of entertainment and information and a very unique sense of humour which seems to flow naturally and spontaneously.I also like the camera angles you choose and you self-written loops/ tunes you use as background music. Many thanks for all the work!
SlipknotHU i'm gonna be ordering custom sjc soon I was think maybe one rack tom and two floor toms like one to the left of me and one to the right or just like a normal ol two rack toms and a floor tom cymbals i always have two crashes a ride and a china or a stack, something trashy
Hey David, I don't know if you're even going to see this but I just want to let you know that if I hadn't stumbled upon your channel, I would've never gotten back into playing drum set. So thank you for reuniting me with my favorite hobby
Actually sounds better than the other ones! Great Job David! i really like you work, all creativity and imagination, plus cheap pieces and there you go!
considering the previous sound of that broken ZHT cymbal you did some good work with that bell...I've expected some trashy going-right-to-scrapyard sound lol
This is crazy, i have the exact same cymbal, also cracked everywhere and bend by the tension. It is actually my second one because i got a new one by the local store because the first one cracked after 4 weeks. Second one in 6 weeks... Last zildjian cymbal i bought, but luckily there is this channel! Might give it a try this weekend, thanks!
In the beginning, I really like the weird overtone you get between the three bells. Just gives me an odd experimental sound. Dumb luck I guess with the tones working out that way.
You're cool David. Congrats on topping 62,000 folks who like your ideas. I have cut legs off of gel spiders now to control how much i take out of the resonance of the ring. it came in handy when i added a crappy stagg in as my bottom end tom on a pearl mid- grade set. (it is just something else to hit and with ear plugs it works for me. I had a spare 16" trashable Remo to throw on it after i went with the 360's LOL)
Thank you. Now I want a bell in my set. And that's dangerous because I spent more on a single cymbal than I spent at the beginning for the kit. Twice. I'm a freaking genius
Sounds good. Makes me want to carry on with my cymbal modifications. Got a big bunch of old cymbals to make into bells and splashes. If only I made the time.
Another great project video! It would be cool to see you take all the scrap cymbal pieces from the various projects and melt them down for a big gong or something similar.
From the DIY department, i have a bell from an old gas pump. As the tumbler would drop around to the "gallon" mark, a bell would sound. I was only able to get 2, and gave one away. It really cuts thru the mix tho.
Sounds great! Have you considered building a bell rack? Kind of like those what Gavin Harrison has. I bet you could come up with great effects / fill-ins, when all the bells are close to one another and / or in certain pitch order.
That's why I like your channel rdavidr because after you make a new things you making a sound test, but I just waching you because I don't have a drum kit and I gonna support you
You have great Chops my friend, and so many GREAT ideas. I have modded several cymbals and saved a TON of $$$. And my music mates LUV the sound. My modded China with Holes and 4 Rivets sounds like Sizzling Bacon. YUM!!
Did the same with a really cracked up zbt, bell turned out pretty small (4 1/2 inches...I think) but has a nice tone to it and was fun to play around with.
great sound! if you know gavin harrison from porcupine tree, he also have 5 bella made from old broken cymbals, you should check the sound of him bells
I think you should do a DIY colour tone cymbal series or try various ways to make your cymbals coloured. Been toying with the idea of powder coating a splash to see what happens. Haha 🤘
the groove at 4:36 was sweet, dude
hi josh you just want to say u rock
Oh, hey it's Josh
Josh Steffen hey man great fan of your vids
Hey Josh the cool drummer
Hey it's the guy who is a litteral God at drumming
woah take it easy Terry bozzio with all those toms
sorry, ill tone it down next time
Cubs win World Series, Trump Wins Election, rdavidr plays a 5 piece, hell freezes over . . .
@@noah-berg thats a problem with your reso head, mess with that more
@@maprow I think we're 3 for 4 on that
let me know what ya think! Its kinda quiet but sounds pretty decent. Bonus point if you can name the vid that lick I play is from!
they are very nice. have you tried to use two of them like hi hat?
rdavidr Gavin Harrison from porcupine tree has done the same thing. He hardly uses any splashes just a bunch of cut out bells. 👍 Keep the amazing videos coming!
To me it almost sounds like a cross between bell and splash. But very nice sounding.
Hey, i was just wondering what china cymbal you've got down there. Also, i love how your first tom is tuned
19" Sabian Holy China
I doesn't ring for half your lifespan like most bells and it sounds pretty great, great job dude!
This is giving me flashbacks...
hahaha right?
🤔
The bell sounded much better than I thought it would. Also you did great with the groove.
Absolutely love your groove @4:37 and the fill before it man
I was really surprised by that groove, such great technique too
Frg C e
Your best line ever - "this is some sketchy shit, so if you try this at home..."
That groove was like a jigsaw piece going into my soul. I am complete.
The bell sounds surprisingly good. I would swap it against my (very old) Sabian bell anytime. Apart from that: I really love your videos. They offer the perfect mixture of entertainment and information and a very unique sense of humour which seems to flow naturally and spontaneously.I also like the camera angles you choose and you self-written loops/ tunes you use as background music. your setup is sounding fucking gnarly.
Like a late 90s alt rock band a la Kyuss :)
Lewe :) you think so? They used bigger kits and Ludwig more likely
just got that crunch.
+Lewe :) finally he's a bigger kit
Your playing seems to be way better than usual, keep going legend
the sad thing is that this video was recorded like 6 months ago... thus the 5 piece and the intact goove perc kit in the background in the beginning.
You're playing a 5 piece... woah
ive had such a hard time deciding my set up
What do you have or want?
SlipknotHU i'm gonna be ordering custom sjc soon
I was think maybe one rack tom and two floor toms like one to the left of me and one to the right
or just like a normal ol two rack toms and a floor tom
cymbals i always have two crashes a ride and a china or a stack, something trashy
I have 2 rack toms and 1 floor tom.
SlipknotHU i guess it depends what im looking to play
Short and sweet. Sort of has a "magical" feel to it in the high end, especially because it doesn't ring like a bell.
Hey David, I don't know if you're even going to see this but I just want to let you know that if I hadn't stumbled upon your channel, I would've never gotten back into playing drum set. So thank you for reuniting me with my favorite hobby
The first groove would be great in a metal song. I also really love the combo of the three bells
this guy is a true "drum cientist"
i guess in english have the "SC" before, like scientist
Man I love the groove at 4:38. Also I think the bell sounds great albeit a bit quiet
Love your vids, keep them coming
Also what's the accent cymbal hiding between your Paragon and the Byzance? Sounds great too
Dude your kit + those bells sound like pure heaven
Actually sounds better than the other ones! Great Job David! i really like you work, all creativity and imagination, plus cheap pieces and there you go!
well I guess you can call yourself a bellionaire
Hugh Mungus you are very punny sir. Especially with a name likr Hugh Mungus.
Jared Dines reference?
Jared dines reference lol
Those strikes were probably the most relatable thing I've seen in a while with pro drummers
considering the previous sound of that broken ZHT cymbal you did some good work with that bell...I've expected some trashy going-right-to-scrapyard sound lol
1:24 “lovely...”
hey david, maybe you can make a diy Groove Wedge? like that yamaha russ miller sig?
Definitely sounds 50% Bell 50% Splash without the ring-y overtones of the other two bells. I dig it.
The bell you made has the best sound...and sustain. Good call on going a bit bigger. Thanks for the vid!
Watch out Lance. Looks like you have some competition 😂
Congrats on 62,000!
That jazzy groove at 5:14 was cool as hell.
In the beginning, I really like the weird overtone you get between the three bells. Just gives me an odd experimental sound. Dumb luck I guess with the tones working out that way.
it sounds really good! Love the quicker decay
You're cool David. Congrats on topping 62,000 folks who like your ideas. bells seems to give drums a nice melodic touch. do people use them often? (im clueless about drums btw)
CletoH4z alot of times they just use the top of the ride
DO A SNARE DRUM FROM A FRYING PAN
Just get the one Lars used on the St. Anger track
....HA!
broooo that 1st groove with the bell is awesome omg😱
I'll watch the rest of the vid but i'm seconds in and ive already left you a like for that amazing beard.
Dude! the rhythm you made at 4:38 is so sick!
If only I made the time.
everything is sounding better than usual, good work
I'll use my 6" bell on my hi hat stand like you did! Nice one!
You are so awesome, David! Hope you had a Happy Birthday, too, dude!
Yeah, that bell groove is actually really nice. Great job all around!
Adds a nice variety in tone to your other bells
those bells sound really nice! what a great way of reusing cracked cymbals
Man, those bells sounded way cooler than I thought they would.
You groove awesomely with the bells!
it's cool you can kinda hear the "crashy" sound, nice work Dave
Bravo man. Re-purposed functional cymbals. Sounds pretty good too.
Your kit looks so much better with all the drums
Definetly going to make use of some of my old crashes now...
Can't tell that you made it yourself! Have to say it's a winner.
sounds good! The three of them work great together
Dude that triplet groove was sweet!
Am I the only one that is amazed at what other drummers do, or is he secretly dope at bells in grooves? HE LET THEM SING! F y'all haters.
awesome videos man I found your channel 2 weeks ago and have been watching non stop
It sounds almost exactly like the Paiste Cup #1 I believe it was 8". I absolutely love it though. I have an old ZBT ride i'd love to do this with
excellent job. I like the custom bell better than the other two. very good.
rdavidr could you do a review on the Vic Firth Chop-Out sticks?
theyre bouncy. thats all I got.
rdavidr lol. Thanks xD
The bell sounds good to me! Nice work man.
Man, this is awesome. Love the left and right bell. Nice interval!
Another great project video! It would be cool to see you take all the scrap cymbal pieces from the various projects and melt them down for a big gong or something similar.
Sounds better than the other two. Great job!
Yo Dave, if you're getting rid of that ZHT bell, can I take it? Lol I'm in need of a bell
Hey Dave noticed you have a couple new cymbals to your set up be nice to see a kit update video
Hmmmm you're too modest, you say you aren't that good playing those bells and as usual you killed it!!!
62002 subs, congrats man, keep up the damn sweet content
love your playing technique
You're so creative when grooving man! And those bells remind me of the sound of vibraphone
From the DIY department, i have a bell from an old gas pump.
As the tumbler would drop around to the "gallon" mark, a bell would sound. I was only able to get 2, and gave one away. It really cuts thru the mix tho.
The sound of the three bells together reminds me of the large 3-tone wind chimes.
That jam sounded so cool
Sounds great! Have you considered building a bell rack? Kind of like those what Gavin Harrison has. I bet you could come up with great effects / fill-ins, when all the bells are close to one another and / or in certain pitch order.
That's why I like your channel rdavidr because after you make a new things you making a sound test, but I just waching you because I don't have a drum kit and I gonna support you
You have great Chops my friend, and
so many GREAT ideas. I have modded several cymbals and saved a TON of $$$.
And my music mates LUV the sound. My modded China with Holes and 4 Rivets
sounds like Sizzling Bacon. YUM!!
What kind of China cymbal are you using? It sounds dopee :D
Alfons Leham Sabian Holy China, think its the 19"
nice groove at the end!
Really impressed by the sound! Another great video man
Hey Dave, can you make a video showing your sampling process? Your music is awesome, and it would be really cool to see that.
Did you clean your Dark Ride everywhere except the bow? Thought it was a Dark Raw Bell for a sec.
nah, thats just how it is.
This is the shadow of the bell mounted above. It's not always that black.
I want to see you make a new cymbal lathe, the bell sounds awsome
Did the same with a really cracked up zbt, bell turned out pretty small (4 1/2 inches...I think) but has a nice tone to it and was fun to play around with.
great sound! if you know gavin harrison from porcupine tree, he also have 5 bella made from old broken cymbals, you should check the sound of him bells
you deserve far more subscribers keep up the good work
I use old cymbals to make arrorheads, guitar picks and for heat soaks when welding thin materials.
how does it feel to wear a respirator with such an awesome beard?
This current bell has a great sound.
I am most definitely going to make aat least one if not two of those. Wonder why I never came to think of it earlier.. Thanks!
Sounds nice! Love these videos so much. Keep making cool drum stuff.
Hey David, could you possibly try making a cajon drum, would be really interesting, i'm thinking of doing it myself
wow very good bright sound !
Perfect for a Christmas song
Yo man, your drums sound awesome in this recording, like straight up.. can you please let us know what snare you are using?
I think that you should definitely make a video on making a proper cymbal lathe, I've always found your cymbal lathing to be relaxing
the one you made is the best sounding to me!
Was this back when you had that Tama bass drum head with the nearly center-cut hole? If you can remember, what size was that drum and hole?
I would love to see you adapt more cymbals like this one! To Patreon!
I think you should do a DIY colour tone cymbal series or try various ways to make your cymbals coloured.
Been toying with the idea of powder coating a splash to see what happens. Haha 🤘
