Simon mate just one piece of advice and that is always take off any steel banded wrist watch while working on any electrical stuff you are working oi/on a car. My own son who is a qualified mechanic told me this after he found out the hard way and had his wrist really quite badly burnt after the band shorted out a circuit carrying a quite heavy current. Otherwise a nice little video!!

Thanks for posting the video Simon, it was very informative. My SLK350 is the pre face lift 06 model that came with the Alpine head unit already installed.
The AM works fine on mine however none of the steering controls or the rear speakers are working at the moment. I pulled the head unit out and found the wiring is not as neat as yours, I think it is going to take some time to work out what is going on back there and untangling the birds nest 😢

    Good videos man, subscribed.
Question: those fake vents on the central console, have you ever tried to take them of? I want to use one for a phone holder, and also to hide the charging cable behind the console.

Hi Simon, glad to see your new video. Do your steering wheel buttons work with this alpine stereo?

Yes, they do - the Aerpro harness does the magic

You STILL use AM in AUS?????

Yes!! We’re still a huge AM radio country, probably due to the size of the place and AM providing more propagation for rural areas than FM or DAB.

Can you actually see the screen on the Alpine unit. I test drove an SLK350 recently - it had the Alpine unit fitted - With the top done the sun washed out the screen making it unusable. Not a whole lot better on a bright day with the top up. How are you finding it?

It's been OK so far - perhaps the newer models have brighter LCDs now?
