Spring Garden Tour - 3rd Year Update

- Our third Spring Garden Tour. Almost 3 years ago, we bought a rundown small farm (less than 2 acres) and have worked to create a space where perennial plants are the star of the veggie gardens.
We show what's growing now and how plants have developed in the short time we've been restoring the land to its former glory.
I watch a lot of Portugal homesteading videos.
Many, many are telling us they want to grow vegetables and fruits and then you see the most sad gardens ever.
Tiny beds, 2 tomato plants, a few herbs and not much else.
Plants are looking pitiful.
I think many just trying to garden for content and you can see they don’t have the compassion and patience to do something beautiful!

I do agree with you a veggie garden should also be pretty and yours certainly is. The transformation that has happened with your hard work is amazing. Throughly enjoy seeing the house Reno but was starting to miss the garden. Dan’s culinary creations always look interesting and would love to see more of them. I've been in hospital and recovering from surgery now and catching with up with latest videos.
The veggie garden is lovely. I can hear the cuckoo in the background announcing good weather.

About 2 and a half years since we started planting. We’re delighted with the progress. Thank you 😊
You've both created such a paradise! Your hard work is paying off. ❤Though you adore gardening I think a flame (fire) weeder will become indispensable over the years for maintaining weed-free stone walls. You just hit the walls with a little heat and a fortnight later brush the weeds off the wall with a stiff broom.
Thank you. I should have explained that the main purpose of cleaning the walls is to inspect them for damage and to clear as much as possible before fire season. A flame thrower could be quite dangerous to the wildlife that live in the walls- lizards, snakes and bees and the like. We appreciate your help to make our lives easier. 😊

I'm so envious...in a good way at the sheer variety of food that you can grow. It's inspired me to grow a few more vege. I grow mainly flowers with garlic and peas thrown in. Thinking maybe leeks...can you get perennial leeks and onions to grow in Belfast cl8mate, not too different from Donegal ❤
Yes you can get perennial leeks which should grow in your area. Ours are dividing rapidly now.

The veg garden looks wonderful and enviably full of lovely plants. I'm glad to see the kiwis taking at last, I seem to recall that early attempts seemed to insist on dying off. Seeing the grape vines on the edge of that terrace really illustrates how the growth further back toward the house has filled out the area, it looks like a different space altogether compared to the same spot in years gone by simply because of all the lovely vegetation that dominates the view now. As we come towards the end of spring here in the UK, my own garden has got to that satisfying stage of high pace growth, the veg patch finally looking less vulnerable to the onslaught of slugs because there is just too much growth to eat (and we've had some relatively dry days recently, compared to the rather damp trend through the first four and a bit months!).
The kiwis are really going strong this year. It's incredible to see their recovery. And yes, the gardens are filling up beautifully inching outwards weekly.

I am amazed how far you guys are into Spring. We are about a 1200kms north in France and we are still having temps of 14°max in the day 😢. However, your garden is looking glorious...🌺🌻🌷🌼
We’ve had swings in temperatures from 3c to 30c within 24hrs here. It’s tough on the plants to manage that but we’re moving into May soon and hopefully the end of the cold. Fire lit last night 😊

I love your garden and would really be interested in seeing how you cook/prepare some of the more exotic things I am watching you grow. Here in the UK the supermarkets just don't seem to have much choice and if I spot something exciting I normally have no idea what I would do with it lol.

We have a few snakes but nothing absolutely deadly and no seriously poisonous spiders It’s the horse flies that cause me in particular a bit of a problem. Very painful bites.
