On this episode we have Emmanuel @Lawal91 talking to us about being a Father of two beautiful children, boy and girl, with two separate mothers. He explains how he found out about both his children and what he was going through mentally. He tells us how he feared what his mother and the church would feel about him having children out of wedlock.
He speaks on the lack of communication he had with his mother and how he found his father via social media. He talks about the misunderstanding about having sex without contraception and the mythologies he heard as a young boy about preventing pregnancy without a condom. He brings up his christian faith and his initial anger he had towards the second mother to his child. He mentions that at one point he considered abortion due to the pressures of having another child so soon after his first.
He revealed that he used to cry himself to sleep due to feeling inadequate as a father. He talks about finance being a major part in parenting especially having to support two separate families and his own. He regrets not being so present in his children lives due to co-parenting, which has made him realise the importance of being present in their lives whilst they’re young. He gives advice to upcoming fathers in his position on having a good line of communication with the mothers and being very appreciative and mindful of how much mothers actually do.
Emmanuel makes clear that he is very confident as a father and regardless who the mothers of his children make their partners his children will know his position. He openly speaks about the not having a father for many years, not being close with his mother and how it effected the way he raises his own children. He talks about punishing his children, teaching them some cultural traits whilst installing respect for their elders.
