Very cool build , i am also form south africa looking to build one myself .just a couple of questions, u understand some how the relay switch, what plasma cutter are you going to use , I have read you need a none touch plasma torch do you have one that you could buy locally? and are you going to install a torch height controller or not . If it is possible can you mabe at a later stage put up a video of your wiring to the plasma torch? thanks again for the video
Here is a quick video of it working ruclips.net/video/jaxabBOKDG8/видео.html - I used a Touch Height control and am using a Hypertherem worth the money really great product
Thanks for the videos. I am working through building the same concept as your original 3axis table. What drove you to start over with a new frame? Also you mention in another video the importance od shielding and grounding. Did you ever publish that video. I'd like to see how a machine acts when that is an issue. Thanks again.
+sbirdranch Hi there - the reason I started over was I wanted a larger bed size for Plasma cutting so I decided on 2.5m x 1.5m. I really need to do another video on the shielding and the affect of no shielding I have just moved to the UK with my Machine what a mission. Maybe I should also do a vid about that drama. Because we are using Stepper motors and do not have any encoder we can't be sure if we are loosing steps and there is a signal that determines the direction and step when one gets interference it can and does cause the machine to miss steps. VFD's control the speed of the motor and by nature this is done by frequency. the cheaper products really are not well shielded or grounded and this ends up running on the motor cables. Also there is a technique to grounding equipment this needs to be done at one point only. If you give me a week or 2 I will do the video
congratulation on the move. The weather here hasnt gotten cold enough to get me back in the shop so my progress has not resumed. Ilook forward to you coming videos. having done a few myself I appreciate the amount of time it takes to edit and publish one.
Please, how I conect the relay in the main board?... how I program the relay in mach3?... please, explain with video Where i buy your relay?.... i have a old plasma.... nertazip 225 .... and i guess the plasma torch turn on and turn off with relay... please explain us the installation and programming in mach 3... thanks a lot
hey Boet - hou gaan dit? I was wondering if you possibly cover something on lengthy bits or long reaching methods, as Im having difficulty with reaching areas where my drill bits arent long enough, so I tried without success to build some long reaching gadget to get the reach - would you try to possibly lead me to some written material that will possibly get through this problem? Best regards Joao from Jo'Burg
@Vatso.... a little help. how many volts goes to the "com" of the relay? can the plasma trigger when for example 5v is sent from the relay to the plasma tip. my relay output is like this "NO/COM/NC" i am wondering if i should give the COM 24v dc or 5v dc in oder to fire the plasma. your experience would be helpful to me. thanks in waiting your reply
Hi there - the best way to explain this is that there is only voltage for the relay to work. when the "trigger" is pulled on a plasma touch there is no voltage. so all you need is the relay to pull closed so NC & the plasma will fire. Take the 2 wires from the plasma touch and touch them together the plasma will fire. of course the plasma machine needs to be on
hi vatso. i have a few questions. i have the same thc as you. The leeuwinga. it has a relay for the plasma torch included that you setup in mach3 but it doesnt want to work. i then went and bought a double relay but the problem with this is that it needs a ground signal and i have no idea how to set it up to work correctly. the vcc goes to positive and the ground goes obviously to ground but when i take the signal wire from either relay and connect it to positive nothing happens but when i connect it to negative the relay closes. I dont know if you still use the leeuwinga thc but i habe a few further qeustions about it if its possible.
Hi Stefan, what you need to do is get an output from Mach3 to switch on and off once you have that working you can hook up the relay. the easiest way to do this is using the same input power you running your BOB connect it to your relay "Your Bob And Relay need to run off the same power supply IE 5v" connect your relay + & - as normal. what you then do is take the relay trigger and connect that to the output which you have working as step 1. what you will see is when the output goes to 0v it will trigger the relay "turn the output on and off in Mach" now all you do is make sure the output has +v when you don't want the plasma to fire and 0v when you want it to fire
vatso hi vatso thanks for the reply. ill defenitly do that tonight amd let you know what happens. i assume you didnt use the relay that works with the thc? reason im asking is . ive configured the thc the way they said from the manuel i recieved from cncdirect. when i turn on the torch in mach 3 the display panel torch led comes on which indicates the thc bob recieves the signal but nothing happens with the relay. the specific thc has the bob and the plasma interface card that connects to the bob via a 9pin vga cable. the plasma interface card has the torch relay,z limit switch, and arc ok signal. ive connected the z limit switch and it works fine but the relay nothing although the torch led lights up on the display panel when i turn on the torch in mach3! i hope this all makes sense, struggling with the english here haha! thanks in advance
Hi Stefan, I am using the Boards internal relay which was working fine - I am in the process of setting my machine up again just did a house move. It could be your Mach3 setup - I will spend some time this weekend testing and sharing my settings with you
i want to use my hypertherm power max 1000 g3 standard hand torch on the cnc plasma table i built but im a bit confused about how to splice in to which wires in the unit i have........in the back theres a "cnc ready " port but idk if i have to buy the machine torch......im kind of strapped for cash which is why i would rather use the relay method and use the hand torch but i dont even know where to start.......should i trace the trigger wires and splice into them and use a relay connect it to my break out board outputs and set it to something in my mach 4 configuration ?.......im a neeewwbbbb help lol
Hi there, the trigger is just a contact switch if that makes sense - what you are doing is setting the relay to just make contact. the secret is the type of relay that is triggered with a 0v. the BOB can't output enough power to turn on the relay. the way to test if it will work is take the relay and make sure it can be powered by 5v "Input power of the BOB" and triggered by 0V / ground. once you have that working you can connect to your bob and set it to trigger when the input is turned off "Ground"

Thanks for the vedio I really like it can you please get me the wiring diagram of how to connect arelay on plasma source with mach 3
Can we give saprate power supply to relay OR give 5v power from mach3 usb board ?
Hi can you please show have to wire the other rely you talk about in this video have the same problem wen starting Mack 3

i got it.... many thanks ("....so all you need is the relay to pull close so NO & the plasma will fire......" i hope i corrected it)
where did you get that relay?
HI
When i use mach3 board interface with 5axis how i can active relay

i might sound dumb but whats a "0V" and a "bob" ? lol
BOB is the breakout board the board that connects to the computer - V0 = Ground
Thank you....i got some 5v 2 channels raspberry relays...think thatll work for that application?
I will make another Video trying to explain how this work
