I feel like a lot of people forgot Meta sells at a loss to hit the largest market available. Not sure if its goal is to make the money back in the shop, in data, or if Mark is really just a huge VR nerd trying to push his passion to the world. Either way; yea, the quest line is more about as many people as possible over profits.
I agree it may be to soon to say that this quest 3 may not do nearly as good as the quest 2. However when you think about how and why the quest 2 sold it starts to make sense. The quest 2 was the perfect storm, it was cheap (for vr standards) standalone so you don't need and pc, and it was marketed for everyone, it is also made by facebook so everyone and their mother heard about it. Another thing is kids getting it for christmas, I hopped on vr on christmas and everyone that I talked said they were playing on the quest 2, most of them being children or younger teens. The quest 3 is more expensive roughly 200 to 300 dollars more depending on how much storage you want. Those kids who got the quest 2 may have already lost interest in vr or only play one game and don't use the headset for pcvr. I have a friend with a valve index and he came over to my house recently and explained to may how much worse the quest 2 is compared to something like the index ( he was shocked at how awful the controllers were compared to the index and compared the lenses to binoculars). Though it is a great headset there is definitely room for improvement and hopefully the quest 3 can be that improvement . So the only real market for the quest 3 is someone getting an upgrade or just buying it to check it out, and anyone that is trying to see if it can be good for pcvr without spending thousands of dollars.
@@Murimz The Meta website, the quest 3 128gb is $500 and the quest 2 128gb is $250 to $300. This makes the quest 3 about $200 to $300 dollars more than the quest 2. Hope that answered your question! 😁
I feel a little silly watching your videos since I’ll likely never be able to afford my own VR headset. But your passion and optimism for this industry keeps me interested
@@Assassin32VR Brazil. Since meta and other companies like valve does not have a licensed distribution here, we have to opt for grey market, and pay import taxes. In short, we pay for two devices, with a weaker currency than the dollar, bummer.
@@Mostbaleia, that’s frustrating. I have a subscriber to my channel from Pakistan. We were chatting one day and it sounds like a similar situation. Hopefully Meta will keep working towards licensing in more countries.
The pancake lenses of the Quest 3 are the main reason the Quest 3's power draw is so damn high. You see, pancake lenses are like looking through 90% tint in a window. What this means is that the screen has to be 10 times as bright as a Fresnel lens based headset, and all that light is expensive on the battery.
The future of VR saves some money by..not using lens at all...micro led CURVED displays (on silicon) are better, much more nits, perfect clarity even with far object, cheaper cause(with mass production), it doesn't require lens.
@@rangerkayla8824 If that were the case I'd expect the battery saving mode they released in v59 to work, it doesn't... I get the same life span on the headset.
@@jbdawinnaTo see clearly at all distances, the eye uses its accommodation. Just like focusing a camera, the closer the eye looks, the more it adjusts. Maximum accommodation decreases with age. A very young eye can see clearly a few centimeters... After...You need correction... Indeed, remember that your device is not so thin...caméra for foveal rendering... Or cushion to fit your face. In your exemple, i Can see clearly my screen at 6cm.. A 8cm thick device...not so much compared to a Pico or Quest3 I Guess the Idea behind curved microled < 1inches is to have ...at least...the most simple Lens in front of it Pancakes Lens are quite thick... Beyond device still use complexe Lens but their screen are flat.
@@SETHalpine Look up the “near point” of the eye, it is the generally accepted minimum distance at which the eye can focus without strain. For the average adult it is 25cm, it can be down to 15cm for children. Lenses are critical.
I never want to see somebody say "PANCAKE LENSES ARE EXPENSIVE" again. When people say that, they are speaking as though pancakes themselves cost $600 alone so headsets that cost 1k+ are justified. Meta shines light on that here with their production cost breakdown: It's not $130 for just the lenses, it's $130 for the entire optics assembly, including the LCD screen, IPD adjustment, etc. That's really not a lot of money.

i Know a deal between Meta and Tencent would probably push the VR Industry but thinking of One of the Worlds biggest Data-collecting Company (Meta alias Facebook) and One of the biggest Chinese goverment-owned company (tencent) is a good thing when you think about how the Chinese Goverment is using Personal Data via social-credit systems etc. to control there Population :/
Absolutely. This is not a good thing. Meta will have to give up lots of control as well. And probably have to give up user data to the CCP. Chinese players will not be allowed to join the same multiplayer games as the rest of the world if there is voice chat or text chat.. That is guaranteed.

I read an article stating that meta considers eye tracking a core feature of VR, and that it will be a standard in their future headsets. I'll wait for these to appear.
Sony is the current leader in the VR industry regarding next gen headsets, selling more then 1 million units. No other company, including Meta has done this with a next gen headset, until they do. I'm not convinced a $500-$650 Quest 3 will outsell Playstation VR 2. No, we havnt seen 400,000 sale confirmation yet, but I think it's safe to say that if Sony can sell 600,000 in 6 weeks, that it's sold another 600,000+ in the last 12 weeks. Sony has a 5 month lead. Quest 3 isn't that impressive to me, and is expensive compared to Quest 2. Sony has sold 47 million PS5s now only 3 years in. Sony is going to have the k1ll3r games, not Meta. PCVR is dry. I think Sony will make VR, not mainstream but a bigger audience, not anyone else. The brand alone is more powerful then people give credit.
@@BloodyCrow__ And the only way to get it working on PC is through a limited number of 3rd-party dongles They do have the most comfortable headsets at the very least but the $1000 it costs here in Australia ain't worth having it tied to a single use, I agree.
The only thing I would need is a faster chip in the Quest 2 as I'm already happy with what it offers, but having that extra power and better resolution screen would take the experience to a new level without spending a truckload of money.

Quest 2 is 200 to 250 last i checked. And quest 3 is like 450+. Whered you get those prices?😊
@@Murimz The Meta website, the quest 3 128gb is $500 and the quest 2 128gb is $250 to $300. This makes the quest 3 about $200 to $300 dollars more than the quest 2. Hope that answered your question! 😁
@@Platnm.3 my bad dawg i thought u said the 3 was 250 to 300 bucks. Didnt realize you said "more". Have a good day bruh.
THANK GOD YOU ARE BACK, I WAS WORRIED ALREADY, hope everything is alright! (opened the video just now)
I feel a little silly watching your videos since I’ll likely never be able to afford my own VR headset. But your passion and optimism for this industry keeps me interested
A Quest 3 Lite would dominate the entire VR industry. Everyone wants a Ferrari, everyone buys a Toyota Corolla.
I’m still hoping that the vrgineers+prusa headset comes out soon
That's my only hope to own a VR gear, living in a third world country.
@@Mostbaleia , which country are you in?
@@SETHalpineput your phone an inch from your eye and tell me how it looks, the lenses are needed to focus on something so close to your eye
A 8cm thick device...not so much compared to a Pico or Quest3
I Guess the Idea behind curved microled < 1inches is to have ...at least...the most simple Lens in front of it
Pancakes Lens are quite thick...
It's good to see you back, I missed Newsday
Welcome back!!!
oh lord, meta here we go again!
Remember, Meta's headsets are so cheap because they make their money off personal data, not hardware
True. It’s a Facebook company
Reminds me that for a while I have it on my plan to re play Squadrons now that I have a better PC and headset than back when it came out.
Why is nobody taking about the junk software that is the Meta app. It never gets fixed is just pure garbage.
I haven’t had any problems in my android phone from 2020.
When you get on here and excitedly announce the partnership of China and facebook to make VR my face twists into shapes I cant describe with emojis…
If this doesnt sound like
“Really exciting news guys! The Borg from star trek is partnering with Skynet from Terminator to bring us brand new nightmare!! On this historic day The Alien and Predator have set aside their differences to focus on hunting you!!
Lay off the crack
nice you are back
Imagine this tech being used for development, you just think what you want like in model making, and it slaps something together, and then you go back and fix up the details by hand. It can make creation SO much faster.
It's always disappointing news hearing that big VR companies are cutting back on Software development...
Unless coupled with a real *revolution* in VR tech like we haven't seen since 2016, we don't need new Hardware. We need things to do with it, for more people to care (again)
Edit: Glad to hear that Thrill is going in the other direction. Looking forward to your creative VR Ideas. With your connection to the industry, maybe one day you'll be the founder of a whole new phenomenon
He’s working on what he loves. I hope he has great success
Still waiting for an index 2, seem to be the only potential thing that can have a good pc vr and good controllers
Deckard
It would be baller if they released AR glasses that work with Steam Deck. Just picked up some Xreal Airs to try out, but I’d buy Steams version in a heartbeat
Welcome back king!
Question of the week: any hopes for pimax to actually make the 12k reality headset?
Thank you as well for reminding me that Star Wars Squadrons exists. Fantastic vr title, criminally underrated despite the branding.
2023 and still rocking a face diaper😂
i Know a deal between Meta and Tencent would probably push the VR Industry but thinking of One of the Worlds biggest Data-collecting Company (Meta alias Facebook) and One of the biggest Chinese goverment-owned company (tencent) is a good thing when you think about how the Chinese Goverment is using Personal Data via social-credit systems etc. to control there Population :/
Absolutely. This is not a good thing. Meta will have to give up lots of control as well. And probably have to give up user data to the CCP. Chinese players will not be allowed to join the same multiplayer games as the rest of the world if there is voice chat or text chat.. That is guaranteed.
@@MrTynanDrapercan’t have them learning any of the forbidden knowledge we Westerners get to enjoy. Just another brick in the great firewall of china. I wish all Chinese well and I hope they get VPNs that can’t be stopped. Spray paint the walls with censorship workarounds!
Welcome back!
Its stuck to a game console though.
@@BloodyCrow__ so what, at least it's realistic....
@@BloodyCrow__ And the only way to get it working on PC is through a limited number of 3rd-party dongles
They do have the most comfortable headsets at the very least but the $1000 it costs here in Australia ain't worth having it tied to a single use, I agree.
And PS5 has proven to sell 7 times more consoles than Xbox series x and s combined. Hate the idiot that named those consoles btw.
BOYCOTT MAINLAND TAIWAN
The only thing I would need is a faster chip in the Quest 2 as I'm already happy with what it offers, but having that extra power and better resolution screen would take the experience to a new level without spending a truckload of money.
the rat thing was so cool, kinda crazy that the idea of full dive isn't so impossible after all
Forgot you existed, welcome back^^
I love the idea that you'll be doing some dev stuff.
As for names, maybe ThrillTweaker?
A Wednesday newsday on my birthday is a pretty nice coincidence!
coincidentally, a few days ago there was a video posted talking about controlling video games with ur mind. this streamer girl has an eeg headset that measures her brain activity and i think she basically programmed different readings of her brain to be certain inputs. video is on the great big story channel
The rat test literally proves the point of Nerve Gear :o
Neurologist ahem, autocorrect… neuralink seems to be well on its way
Ohhh your head is sorta shaved! I was wondering what seemed different lol
Also, wait you’re working on your own program?! That’s neat! XD
We love a Newsday Wednesday
We missed you ❤
I hope this comes out soon, I really want a VR headset but the quest 3 is so expensive!
I bought my quest 3 day one and I am more than just happy 😃, only the comfort could really use a upgrade
nahh the butt haptics bouta go crazy in VRChat 💀
1:45 If worn on the back, it can be a tail, if worn on the front, well... it can be a huge... you know what.
i know if the price point is as low as estimated for the lite ill def buy it and join the virtual scene. without such a cheap alternative idk when i would be able to join VR n im pretty pumped about it
Ayy long time no see!
I'll be honest, was not expecting a video with Squadrons footage in the year of our lord, 2023. Happy to see it! Wish more people considered the game these days. Still wish it had more quality of life and balancing updates.
also @ThrillSeekerVR, I hope you're enjoying SW:Squadrons. It's a great game that deserved more, and it still has a strong, albeit small, competitive community that still hosts leagues and tournaments of various types.
I wish it had more single player, ship customization, some free roam. They could do a lot with a good sequel
I think we deserve a new house review from you thrill
Yo 1:44 !! I was there for that I'm pretty sure, I definitely was drinking tequila but I'm surprised I didn't notice you 😝
