      I'm looking at the Liv tours website, and the way I read it, it is a semi-private tour (limited to 6 people) for €450 pp, but offered only 10 days from July-December, 2024. Am I reading this correctly?

      Yes, it's semi-private. On their site they state that while most of their semi-private / small group tours are limited to 6 people, in this case, the group size is max 10 people. This is because the entire tour is made up of 20 people max with 2 guides, so they split the group into 2 groups of 10 each + the guide. And yes, it's not offered very frequently. Perhaps if the tour does well they will be able to add more of them to their availability calendar. You could also write to them and ask if they would have any tours going for when you will be in Rome. @@ninaruhland8358

    Thanks for the update! One thing you didn't mention was cost. As of today, the new tour is much closer to the very pricey Key Master's tour than the old early access tours.

    • @Romewise
      @Romewise  6 месяцев назад +1

      Thanks for watching. They didn't yet know the cost when I took the tour. I knew it would be pricey since it's so exclusive and similar to the key Master tour that way - your group are literally the only people inside the museums. The old pre-opening tours were really common and easily available and were just not very exclusive, which is why they were so affordable. I don't know if they will bring back those tours but for now, this and the Key Master are the only two "early bird" options for Vatican museums tours.

    FYI everyone we visited the Vatican Museum early May 2023 despite the crowds is was fantastic but the highlight for us was the Carriage Museum or as we called it the Pope Mobile exhibit. It doesnt seem to be promoted that well as we only found it by accident. It was fantastic we were the only people there apart from the two security guys one of whom was asleep.

      You are so right - the Vatican Museum boasts quite a few rooms and wings that most visitors never see, partly because most tours simply can't cover them or the tours would run way too long. But I agree, the Carriage Museum is great, and I've never seen it crowded. Thanks for sharing!

    Have you ever put together small group tours? I know Italian laws are fussy about being a tour operator, but what if a group of ‘friends’ happened to meet with you, and you led us on an incredible walk of Rome while sharing your wealth of knowledge?

    • @Romewise
      @Romewise  3 месяца назад +1

      That's so nice of you! I'm flattered that you'd like to take a tour with me, but it's truly difficult without a guide license. I tried to get one a while ago but they make it nearly impossible so I gave up. They give the test every "few" (random) and they keep changing the rules about who is giving the licenses (regions, provinces - it's Byzantine!)
      So now the best way for me to share what I know and love about Rome is by making these videos (and on my websites, www.romewise.com and www.florencewise.com ....and now www.napleswise.com too!)

    Did I read the price of the tour right?! Wow! That’s super expensive.

    • @Romewise
      @Romewise  6 месяцев назад

      Yes you did. It's expensive because there is literally only one tour group going in in two groups of 10 people each, and for that exclusivity, the price is indeed high. It's similar to the Key Master tour that way. That tour is also really expensive because only that one group of 20 people is inside the museums.
      I assume the Vatican Museums charge a lot for this type of tour, and then a tour company buys that tour, they have to turn around and charge all the participants enough to make up the cost of the tour + the guides (and in this case, also breakfast.)

      Yep, that's the only option. The queues can be long but they can also move fairly quickly. Most people say they wait no more than an hour to get in, but it can be less. If you don’t see any dates (Nov) available, is it not going to be offered or are they releasing more dates later on? @Elyssa if you had a choose between this new tour and the KeyMaster tour which one would you choose?

    • @Romewise
      @Romewise  5 месяцев назад

      November is a while from now, so I'd a) keep checking back, b) write them and ask if they will have more tours in November, c) try a similar tour through a different company (I've provided some links in the description).
      Both this tour and the Key Master tour are great, but what I love about this tour is that it's a real tour, where you get someone taking the time to explain all the rooms and a lot of the artwork. With the Key Master tour, it's less of a tour than an experience. The amazing part is turning on lights and opening doors, but there is less of an explanation of things. So it can depend on what you want!

      This week is Easter Holy Week, possibly the busiest week of the entire year in Rome. Nothing is impossible, but I doubt very much that you will be able to find any ticket tht isn't charging a premium

    • @Romewise
      @Romewise  6 месяцев назад +1

      Thanks for watching my video. In general, it's become nearly impossible to visit popular sites in Rome without booking in advance. But, as @ninaruhland8358 points out, this is Holy Week and Rome is even busier than usual.
      If the Vatican and Colosseum websites are all sold out, then your only choices will be to go stand in LONG lines (2-3 hours each), or purchase tickets through a third party. Because supply is low and demand is high, costs are indeed higher. If you are really on a budget, then you could go stand in line. I suggest getting there (both Vatican museums and Colosseum) super early or you will have very long waits indeed.
