I can’t believe he was only a student when he performed this. This is PERFECTION. The precise coordination with the music, the body and facial expressions and of course the dancing. I watched it many times already and I never get bored of it. Truly amazing
For people wondering about the music It is "2 nd movement of Shostakovich 11th symphony", Personally, this symphony is the best symphony ever created in romantic era
Too amazing for words, and too amazingly beautiful! Even the least skilled dancers impress me to some extent because I’m clumsier than a drunken ox, but such artistry as this mystifies me so that I can only gape in sheer awe and joy. I was a boy and my family was watching the Carol Burnett Show when my father made a comment during a performance by the dance troupe which I’ve recalled many times in the decades since (I was 16, and I’m 61 now). Dad said that a lot of guys he knew would call men wearing tights and twirling on their toes unmanly (he phrased it just that diplomatically) without realizing that every one of them and every one of the women dancing with them had more strength in their little fingers than any of them had in their entire bodies, and that none of them could imagine the discipline or pain that an aspiring professional dancer commits to. He didn’t direct this to any one of us in particular, but while this was never spoken of I’d always known I was gay, and my parents and brother did, and I immediately knew that my father was assuring me that nobody in the family subscribed to the stupid stereotypes. It was a profound and beautiful moment for me. And this isn’t entirely related, but many years later I learned that in his childhood Dad had shown great promise as a dancer and singer, stopped pursuing it in his teens and regretted that for the rest of his life! I didn’t mean to go on at such length so I’ll just add that in 1984 or 1985 I - of all people, this ox who didn’t know the chassé from the funky chicken - had the privilege of briefly meeting Martha Graham! To you dancers out there screaming at me because life ain’t fair, I agree… it should have been YOU! Thanks for a beautiful upload.
I guess I missed the point. I thought it was the lifecycle of a bug. He moved too smoothly for it to be about human struggles. It was too graceful. It looked like he had no control of his circumstances. I just couldn’t figure out what kind of bug so I came to the comments where everyone basically said “human struggles.” I don’t see it.
I have never seen anything comparable. Extraordinary in both choreography and execution. A fearless, radical departure from the familiar tropes of classical ballet. Truly brilliant.
This was magnificent. Technical virtuosity, emotional intensity and connection and physical stamina. A performance totally consonant with the music that conveyed a challenging but convincing story. Bravo! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Fantastico!
His brilliance is effortless and beautiful as well as tortured and haunting. Magical I couldn't stop watching I was mesmerized. Exceptional performance!! I can't wait to see more of his contemporary dance performances. I will be in line to buy tickets.
This young man was / is absolutely amazing ! The beautiful fluidity of his body movements are mind boggling. He has so much control of this and it's hard to believe his young age. Kudos to you ! I hope to see / watch more of you ! Thank-you, Steve
Mannaggia
I just wish I knew how to interpret what the story was he was telling with his intense movements. I guess I’m not good at this!😕 It was mesmerizing to watch.💕
Absolutely spectacular..., my dear Esposito, you are fantastic, this is what I think could explain what perfection is. Thank you so much for sharing your great and beautiful talent, love you 💖
WOW. And what maturity and presence. That must have been SUPER intense for that child have been training that piece for the endless hours it took to perfect it like that. But what a breathtaking result. I hope he has great success. He’s got the makings of something very special. 🏆
Interesting, entertaining. That was a mix of ballet, physical exercise, & trapeze artistry. I enjoyed it immensely. Thank you, young man, your devotion to your art really shows.
I can see a great future for this dancer. I’m not really enthused with form of dance but his artistic ability and interpretation skills are phenomenal.
Я в захватi,браво!!!
An amazing performance - incredible, really - virtuosic, athletic, graceful, dynamic. The music sounded Russian - either Prokofiev or Shostakovich; it's like the score was written for the performance (although we know that's not the case). I'd like to think the composer would have been pleased by this performance. I hope in the five years since this was posted the young man has gone to to dance with a leading company . . . I'd love to see him in a classical performance.
Wow! I just watched this in silence....I was about to scroll straight past it but his forward walk on all fours intrigued me. Wow, what a beautiful, artistic, interesting peice. Now I'm going to watch it all over again but this time with sound, it was that flipping fantastic!
This was amazing and disturbing, as it was no doubt meant to be. Another comment said that his movements weren't as frenetic as the music until the end. I disagree. I found all his movements in synch with the music throughout. I like this "modern ballet." I'd choose to see more traditional ballet 8 or 9 times out of 10, but how would you convey what this does in a more traditional form?
He is not behaving in any way. He is interpreting a piece in a ballet competition and he did that really well. It would help if you watched the original ballet, "Nijinsky". At least you would see that this young dancer can't be held responsible for the things you don't like in the video.
I actually watched this first without the music and actually enjoyed it so much more. The power and acknowledgement of the body was incredible. Well done👏🏿
I watched it first with the music but watched it again with no music and I was shocked! It was a brilliant performance!! I loved it with music but without it made every move stand out!! Thanks for the suggestion.
Shostakovich Symphony No.11 op.103 "The Year 1905" 2nd Movement "The 9th of January" (the movement is like 17 minutes long and this is a portion about 10min in). This Symphony is one of my favorites! Shostakovich completely went there and wasn't afraid to tell the world about the horrors going on and much to the ire of Stalin who ultimately had him exiled from Russia because he wouldn't conform to the communists parties standard. This dance was a true embodiment of what Shostakovich was writing about, the pain & suffering of the people, leading to an uprising aginst the Tsar and storming the Tsar's Palace. Bravi!
This is just recommended to me, and I don't know what form of art is this. I don't understand what's happening the whole performancr, but his movements felt like they're telling a story. And at 3:19 , I had goosebumps. 👏✨
Great music!, Russian composer- Shostakovich, great choreography! It must be very fulfilling to co-creat this powerful image
I think Shostakovich would have loved this. He didn't write this as a ballet but as a symphony -- however, the dance really does connect, I think, with the slaughter that is depicted in this 2nd movement of his 11th symphony. Excellent work by this young man.
Yikes! It's not just the technical mastery, and not just the limpidity. Those are already great in this guy's dancing. But what really blows me away is how he never loses sight of the story he's telling. In fact that must be what is driving the dance.
I can’t believe he was only a student when he performed this. This is PERFECTION. The precise coordination with the music, the body and facial expressions and of course the dancing. I watched it many times already and I never get bored of it. Truly amazing
HE ACTUALLY TOLD A STORY!!! Wow I don't get any of ballet or any dance but this... I connected totally
For people wondering about the music
It is "2 nd movement of Shostakovich 11th symphony",
Personally, this symphony is the best symphony ever created in romantic era
Romantic? Doesn't sound that romantic to me
Thank you very much!!!💖
I was wondering, thanks! Nice dance performance , but no human body can equally express the emotional intensity of this music
It's not romantic, it's 20th century, and if it's 11th it's not going to be early 20th c so even further away from the romantic era
@@giovannisansone980 I don't think so either. To me, it sounds like a movie score during a fight or a chase scene.
17 years old. Wishing him a great career. Breathtaking performance at such a young age.

This was choreography wrapped in humanity and executed by the performer with total commitment.
What an absolutely STUNNING performance, powerful, emotional, "tortured," and deeply revealing of human struggles.
Yes, I felt quite tortured by it. The only relief was the eyelashes but I don't think they're real.
Nijinsky said he believed he suffered more than Christ suffered.
@R. Boyle I do agree that it looked "tortured" but I hardly think that is something to brag about.
I couldn't have expressed it an better. Absolutely agree. It was to the point of haunting. Absolutely amazing.
I guess I missed the point. I thought it was the lifecycle of a bug. He moved too smoothly for it to be about human struggles. It was too graceful.
Esposito!! Your Performance was ABSOLUTE PERFECTION!! Thank you!!
Let's talk for a moment of the movement done at 1:45... Excellent tecnique!!!! If you stop the image of the video... it's pure magic!!!!

This is exactly how I feel right now. Amazingly performed, emoted, and presented. It is perfection.
Sublime. Quelle puissance dramatique !
This is nothing short of magnificent! Such an incredibly mature performance from such a young performer. I'm in awe!
I can see a great future for this dancer. I’m not really enthused with form of dance but his artistic ability and interpretation skills are phenomenal.
I'm not usually a fan of this type of dance but this performance may have changed my mind.
Yes, I didn't like the dance choreography, but this young man is undoubtedly very, very talented, and a real pleasure to watch.

Music more like Arnold Schoenberg's Peripetie
Did you say graceful. You must have missed what he was saying about what he was told to be
The music is a mash-up of elements from Shotakowich's 10th symphony.
Wow! I just watched this in silence....I was about to scroll straight past it but his forward walk on all fours intrigued me. Wow, what a beautiful, artistic, interesting peice. Now I'm going to watch it all over again but this time with sound, it was that flipping fantastic!
Such style Such grace! Showed much confidence in his ability. He owned that performance! Congratulations
Amazing, the control this man has over his body just blows me away, Bravo 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

A star has been born in the ballet sky.
Complimenti !
He has very strong facial features which carry this piece off perfectly.Amazing dancer. Good luck in yr career.
Wow! This was brilliant! A perfect performance. Breathtakingly moving.
He is behaving like he has escaped from somewhere 🤣
He is not behaving in any way. He is interpreting a piece in a ballet competition and he did that really well.

Wow! And to think he's dancing like that at 17. Looking forward to seeing more of this kid someday.

How masculine and energetic, while still showing excellent dance and gymnastic moves. Loved it!
WOW, just wow....that was so dang powerful and you got the story very clearly.
Just beautiful movement, control and grace!
An absolutely stunning performance. He is an incredibly musical dancer.
The young dancers movements feelings heights absolutely beyond fabulous.
For someone who doesn’t understand the arts, I have to admit, I found this performance to be absolutely enthralling. 🙏

Bravo , God gave you everything, how beautiful you are so talented From grannie in 🇨🇦 canada /perfection at its best
Desespero, era pra sentir isso? Perfeito e completo. Obrigado
Absolutely incredible 🎉🎉
He makes this look simple, but I imagine the strength and control necessary to pull this off must be incredible.
amazing talent and choreography and I am reminded of Stravinsky's the Rite Of Spring isn both music and choreography. WOW!
That was amazing. I felt like he was describing modern life. Bravo!
I've seen that piece performed many times, and it is a very difficult piece to perfect, and he nailed it. Amazing.
Absolutely wonderful ❤️!
that was amazing!!!!!!
Excellent, and so strong. Bravo young man.
Amazing. Totally speechless!!
He is an Artist! Unique special dancer. Dramatic beauty!
Wow that was truly marvelous. Congratulations on everything

Amazing performance, i really connected. 👏🏾
the dance and dancer are out of this world. And I absolutely love the music. What is it?
THAT WAS BEAUTIFUL AND STUNNING. GORGEOUS.
Brilliant performance! Perfection.
Truly Magnificent !! thank you.
Great music!, Russian composer- Shostakovich, great choreography! It must be very fulfilling to co-creat this powerful image
He makes it look incredibly easy to do what he just did, not my favorite dance but I can appreciate its beauty.
Incredible choreography, excellent act.
I think Nijinsky would understand it and admire it and there could be no greater compliment.
I think Shostakovich would have loved this. He didn't write this as a ballet but as a symphony -- however, the dance really does connect, I think, with the slaughter that is depicted in this 2nd movement of his 11th symphony. Excellent work by this young man.
Muy interesante performance y coreografia. Bravo !
Wooow amazing, beautiful 🔥⚡🔥⚡🔥⚡👑👑💪💪👍
WOW! He put up a good fight in that battle & died nobly! Fantastic interpretation of the musical score.
Simply beautiful.
What a beautiful artist! A great dancer and sportsman on beautiful contortions of his beautiful body that made me quiver with anticipation!
Yikes! It's not just the technical mastery, and not just the limpidity. Those are already great in this guy's dancing. But what really blows me away is how he never loses sight of the story he's telling. In fact that must be what is driving the dance.
Absolutamente brillante !!! Y hermoso
Strength, Control, Balance. The jump where crossed his foot over his thigh was my favorite move.
Absolutely brilliant!
