But what about his trousers?
That is very good to hear.
What a relief ❤

My opinion. I live in Taiwan. I’ve driven that road twice recently. What people don’t realize is that there are possibly more than 20 traffic tunnels along that road. Some of these tunnels are more than 10km long. Most are not short distance tunnels. In most tunnels there are an intercom system so they can communicate with those inside of the tunnel. These tunnels are designed for emergencies and to get trapped people out. I think these tunnels saved 100s of lives that time of the day. The Taiwanese culture is a cooperative hive culture. They are proactive, smart and hard working. I have a lot of respect for the discipline I’ve witnessed being part of their world for many years.
People should evacuate Taiwan as soon as possible. It is going to get much worse in the upcoming months.
People should evacuate Taiwan immediately. It is going to get much worse in the months ahead.
absolutely. my deepest respect for Taiwanese people. I live in Italy, a 6.3 earthquake happened in my grandmother's village... completely destroyed, government help arrived 24 hours later! respect for those who really love their country.

A bigger earthquake killed thousands of Taiwanese 25 years ago. So they learned from that experience and have much better building codes to minimize life loss in case of big earthquakes. This time it showed.
Prayers for Taiwan from California. Very impressed with the degree of preparation and competence.
California will experience something far worse than this in the very near future. Just watch the 2015 movie San Andreas to get an idea of what to expect. The people who produced this movie are aware of what is coming and already have bunkers filled with supplies in the State of Colorado in anticipation of this massive worldwide geological event.
I've seen a few of these videos and they keep showing the same building over & over & over again. That's a HUGE testament of Taiwan's earthquake preparation.
Exactly. I assume if any other huge buildings had fallen we'd have seen pictures, to have only one for such a huge earthquake. This one is not even fully collapsed (though it may end that way). Good job engineers and whatever building guidelines are in place across the area. Preparedness has saved many lives.
The worst affected area is very remote and very steep. It will take some time to get everywhere. They show the footage they have which is from bigger cities and more accessible areas.
It only did that because of liquifaction of the ground underneath it.
Hualien city, where that particular building is, has a population of 99K. Only 2 buildings suffered this kind of severe damage, the other one has been demolished. There should be a lot more buildings with less severe structural damages though.
I am so sorry for people who are hurt and impacted by the earthquakes. I couldn’t help but noticed that the surrounding buildings of the tilted one remain standing. And how does the rest part of the tilted building remains intact after hundreds of aftershocks? The resilience of Taiwanese people is amazing! They taught their children well.
Praying for the people of Taiwan. I hope they find all the missing people alive.
You talk as if it's not going to effect you. This will happen on a global scale in the near future.
Praying is pointless. Why do you do it?
1:15 As a Taiwanese, must tell CBS News, that school its more like in PRChina, first the news clips is from china CCTV, And look the national flag, is more like PRC five star flag, not ROC Taiwan's Flag, So that its probably not in Taiwan

Just to be clear, a 7.8 magnitude earthquake is 4 times stronger than a 7.4 one. Having said that, it's still very admirable how well prepared the Taiwanese are.

I believe the guy was telling the drone someone has a broken leg.
One male with open bone fractures on both legs, and was treated instantly by a doctor who happened to join in the same trip.
BTW, the semi-open tunnel was built as a shelter to face the exact situation when rock falls down.

Thank God! Uranus Building in Hualien. A female teacher who had escaped died because he ran home to save his cat and encountered an aftershock. This was the only person who died because of the building. Many people are missing or dead. They are all on roads in mountainous areas. On the Central Trans-Highway and Su-Hua Highway in mountainous areas of Taiwan, people cannot escape due to earthquakes.
Praying for all the people of Taiwan.... Most especially those directly affected by the temblor....🙏🙏🙏

The Taipei 101 building has 101 floors above ground and 5 floors underground. Every eight floors is a structural unit, which are connected to each other and stacked layer by layer to form the whole. The Taipei 101 foundation construction project lasted a total of 15 months, with 700,000 tons of soil dug out. The foundation piles were composed of 382 reinforced concrete piles and were dug 80 meters into the ground. Because of its large and deep foundation, Taipei 101 is as stable as a giant aircraft carrier sunk 80 meters into the ground and is not afraid of earthquake shaking. It is a miracle that Taiwan's superb construction technology can build such strong buildings in earthquake-prone Taiwan. TSMC, the world's largest semiconductor manufacturing plant, has its huge semiconductor manufacturing plants built using rigorous and earthquake-resistant technology. Therefore, this strong earthquake in Taiwan barely caused any damage to TSMC's sophisticated and expensive semiconductor manufacturing equipment. The resumption rate exceeded 80% the next day, making the world no longer worried about semiconductor supply shortages.
Taiwan's building regulations stipulate that every building must be designed with a strong air defense shelter basement. Taiwan was able to withstand this 7.4-magnitude earthquake. The energy it released was as powerful as 32 atomic bombs. Only 10 people died in Taiwan, nearly a thousand were injured, and only two buildings collapsed. If China attacks Taiwan and launches countless missiles, Taiwan's buildings are strong and will not be afraid of China's missile attacks.

Has there been Aftershocks an how big?
Personally I felt at least 20 (over 600 according to the official report) aftershocks after the main earthquake. Most of the aftershocks were minor. But I can no longer tell if it's another earthquake or I'm just dizzy 😂

Not everyone received the early warning though. I mean they send an early warning but not this time. I think no one received from the dorm I lived at.
Because it depends on the level of magnitude predicted for the area you are in. If it’s expected to be below mag 5 then you won’t receive the alert

Thoughts with Everyone 💜🙏💜
Seismic coefficient, also known as earthquake-resistant coefficient, refers to the horizontal acceleration coefficient in earthquake zones. It is the estimated maximum ground acceleration value (G: gravitational acceleration) that may occur in a region during an earthquake. 0.25G to 0.4G is considered a strong earthquake of magnitude 6, while above 0.4G is a major earthquake of magnitude 7.
After the 921 Great Earthquake in Taiwan in 1999, the government made nationwide amendments to the "Earthquake-resistant Design Code for Buildings" and the "Concrete Structure Design Code". The "design seismic force" regulations were changed from "moderate earthquake zone" to "strong earthquake zone" for all areas except Taipei and Kaohsiung. The design seismic force was also adjusted from 0.23G to 0.33G. Since 2003, all buildings with building permits issued by the Taiwanese government can withstand a magnitude 6 strong earthquake.
Since 2006, for buildings with building permits issued after 2006, excellent construction companies have deliberately improve the earthquake resistance coefficient to 0.4G, which means that their buildings can withstand a magnitude 7 earthquake.
In addition, the use of steel is a basic element of earthquake resistance. The steel used in high-rise buildings constructed in Taiwan in recent decades is new steel, and no processed scrap steel is used to ensure earthquake resistance.
I lived in Taiwan 2004-6. The first year was great and then the second year they started building another highrise building next to mine. They pounded in these super long steel beams (as they do everywhere) but they were so so long it took MONTHS of bonk bonk bonk every day.

@@JonProphet111 we’re talking about Taiwan, not Hawaii. It wasn’t an accurate comparison. What you are sharing doesn’t make them more similar, it makes them less similar.
Indeed, it was a 7.4 so quite different. But Taiwan is designed and engineered to handle these quakes, unfortunately it is very difficult to prevent land slides. The buildings in Turkey/Syria are terrible design and prone to complete collapse which is how so many people died.
