So glad to see this video today! After following your travels, I have chosen fall of 2017 for my first Camino. I am pleased to be able to thank you for all the help you have given me in getting ready, You are a true encourager.
Lindsey!!! I just came back from my first Camino and I just wanted to thank you for being such an incredible resource!! The group I went with was vastly impressed with how prepared I was in packing. Thank you so much!!
Hi Lindsey. I miss Vancouver, used to live in the area. Thx for posting this video. I was just asking myself this question. I notice there are kilometre of open space in along the route. Where do people go when nature calls in big open space??? 😳
Thought I would share my Fall camino experience. I started my camino on September 15th 2016 from St. Jean. I found this time of year was busy enough to where you never felt alone, but also very easy to separate yourself from the crowd. I kept hearing rumours about how busy it gets in Saria but the albergue I stayed at in the centre of the city only had one other pilgrim. I had a couple of nights where I was the only one. Beautiful time of year
Love all your videos. Followed your packing and other recommendations when I hiked from St Jean de Pied de Port to Santiago. Kept my pack down to 15 lbs. I now look forward to your adventures in this part of the world. Thank you from Vancouver Island BC
I walked the Camino in the spring back in 2013! It's a beautiful trail and I would advise you all to walk this beautiful trail. one love from Vancouver
Hi Lindsey, you're a rockstar! Very impressed by the content and breadth of your videos. I've done a lot of long distance trekking but can't wait for my Camino in May. The info you provide is very practical and nothing can replace the experience of someone who's done it. Keep the videos coming and happy trails for 2017. Tony
BUSHCRAFT AND FISHING WITH THE PIKEY, i would suggest the Camino Norte as a preferred route if you like more solitude. Even in the busier Spring season when the Camino Frances begins to get crowded, the Norte remains more sparsely populated, and more daily alone time. I heard this from multiple people who walked that route when i met them near the end of my Fances route last May.
HI Lindsey, thank you for this video, I'm lucky to find your videos now. Planning Camino de santiago French way, this time only from Pamplona to Burgos in Xmas time 2017(22nd - 31st?). As my first time doing proper camino (did one day camino Roncesvalles - Zubili in May), I'm bit scared of the unknown weather as people say it's harsh, cold and raining all the time (true?) My question is did you use "PONCHO" in winter north Camino route? Worth to buy it and pack in when any slight weight to go in the bag is crucial? Saw many pictures pilgrims wore ponchos in rain,.... Thank you Lindsey, Kumi
Discovered your videos today and they are wonderful. Considering hiking the Camino Frances in the fall. How much of your time was spent on asphalt roads? Came across a video in my Internet travels today which essentially said that 95% of the Camino you are on a road not a trail and the road noise was ever present even when you were not on a trail.
95% is certainly an over-exaggeration. There are times when you have to go along a busy road, but they are few and far between. Often it may be paved but is either a small, quiet path, or going through deserted rural hamlets.
Hi Lindsey! Thanks for sharing your experiences. My mom and I are rookies looking to walk this upcoming February. Do you know anyone who has walk in the winter who can give us tips for routes and gear? Thanks so much!
Good morning Lindsey, If we start in the beginning of March do you think we would have any problems in walking the Pyrenees because of the weather? If so, what would be the best time to go? Thanks for sharing. I’m really enjoying your videos. 🎒🎒🎒🎒🎒
hey Lindsey, thanks for the videos, loads of useful tips:), im thinking of doing the Camino frances mid june, finishing at the end of July. is this a good time to go do you think?, I dont mind the heat:)
Hey Lindsey! Glad to see you still posting! All of your videos were great assistance when i was planning my camino of last Spring! Such an incredible experience! I completed half of the Lycian Way in Turkey last November and am returning to finish it this May; also a fantastic and beautiful walk. You should look into it! ...and its great to hear you're getting into more local hiking and backpacking! That my all-time favorite hobby: if you ever have gear questions or would like some wilderness survival type training, hit me up! Or check out my new website (going live soon) at www.trailgearnw.com. I'll do a Camino related shoutout to you on there!
Thanks Chris! The Lycian Way sounds super interesting! I have friends building a long distance trail in Armenia currently and am possibly thinking about joining them this summer or next... but we'll see. Hope your website's going okay, tried to visit but still not live! Cheers man, take care
I'm walking the last part of Camino in April and I was wondering what is the best thing to wear. Is it better to wear short sleeves or long sleeves? I plan on wearing some sort of sweater and a rain jacket as well. All your videos are really helpful!
Hi Lindsey, I love your videos, very informative! :) I was wondering what your thoughts were on sleeping in a tent during the french way route. I find it very hard to sleep in the same room as other people, it gets me all anxious as i had an operation on my middle ear and it left me with chronic tinnitus which becomes an issue at night when it raises its ugly head! My plan is to camp every night, i know that the added weight will be a pain but its something i will have to get used to. Do you think that ill be able to sleep within the grounds of the albergues? For a small fee they may let me still use the facilities perhaps!? Any advise would be great! Many Thanks Daniel
I just found your videos! I want to walk the camino, but I am only 21 years old. I was wondering how common younger people are on the camino? Thanks, and great videos!
Awesome tips. I'm planning a Camino trip in June on the 15 to be precise. Need some tips on accommodation, weather and packing. I'm doing the last leg of the Camino from Tui with my wife. Next year I wanna do the Porto Camino. Will appreciate your valuable tips.
your time spent there depends on your walking speed, as well as how far you plan to walk etc. I will be walking the camino for the first time this year, and have decided to book a one way flight, considering that I dont know for sure exactly how long it will take me, nor do I want to put a time constriction on my walk, so i will be booking my return flight once I arrive in Santiago. My flights however are only to London, so you may need to reconsider depending on where you are flying from.
Hi Lindsey! Not sure if you still log on but I’m considering the Camino in August - kind of last minute idea 😬 hopefully with a friend (finding out tomorrow if she can make it) and wanted to know how important training is prior to the Camino? And what you recommend training wise?!
Hello again! So it has been decided to do another Camino next May; the Portuguese route from Lisbon this time! With a couple friends I met on last year's Camino. Have you done the Portuguese route yet?
Hi Lindsey, I would like to ask a stupid question. We plan to walk a camino next year and just wonder if during a walking time we have period come and no hotels or any bathroom around, how should you solved this problem? Thanks a lot.
Hi, Lindsey, love your videos! I'm planning my own Camino and I have a question I hope you can answer. I'm a bit of an outdoorsman and I like sleeping outdoors. I understand that there are plenty of alburgues (I don think I spelled that right) and I know I will have to overnight at some of them, but I would prefer to minimize that as much as possible. How realistic is that? I'm planning to do the Camino Frances in April/May of 2018.
Hi Marty! I can definitely relate. If I were to go back, I'd probably try and bring a tent and camp out as much as I could. The only problem is that you'd probably often find yourself camping on private property. I'm not sure of the logistics of it all. There are probably blogs or experiences written out there by folks who did in mostly in tents. I'm sure it would be a lovely way to do the Camino! Good luck.
I will be planning to hike the camino starting in St Jean some time around the second week in January. This will be my first camino, but is the only time I have available to do this hike. Where can I find reputable information about available housing for this time of year. Also, are the mountains passable in January, or will I have to get around them somehow? I will be traveling down from Paris, and planned on taking a train to St Jean. Please help.
Hi! Thanks for your videos. I am planning my first Camino this year in either July or August. If you were to pick, which month will you choose, July or August and why? Is camping an option too? Based on my calculations, if i were to walk 6 hours a day (that's already minus breaks and other stops), I'll complete the walk from St. Jean to Camino in 22 days. Is that realistic? How long did it take you on your first walk. Thanks and cheers. Jun
Do you mean from St-Jean to Santiago? Jeez, how fast do you walk?? It's certainly not impossible, but that would be walking nearly 7 km/hour. I'd say I averaged about 5 km/hour minus stops, and that pace seemed to be on the faster-than-average pace. My first one took 32 days.
Hi Lindsey, I'm walking my first Camino from St jean to Compostela. I'm walking from may 28th to July2nd. My question is, do i need a light fleece or a heavy fleece for that time of year.
It has been FOREVER since you posted. I'm still waiting for a post-2016 Camino gear review. I also think it would be cool (if you plan to do another Camino soon) to do a vlog series dedicated to planning, preparing, and executing your Camino that outlined step by step how you prepare, how you book, etc. Though, really, when it's been this long any kind of video will do!!!
I know, I'm sorry. I haven't been thinking about the Camino at all these days, I've been preoccupied with other adventures. May return to this space soon. Thanks for the feedback!
I did it in Feb-March 2013 and it was lovely! It was snowy and there was only a few people at St Jean so we had a nice intimate group. I liked it so much that I will be doing St jean to Finisterre this Feb too. After that I am thinking about Lisbon to Satiago although I have heard that Porto is more viable due to Lisbon not being so well supported. I am open to any advice regarding that.
If I were to do the Camino again, I'd definitely do it sometime in late fall, winter, or very early spring. I can imagine there aren't too many tourists braving the elements at that time of year ;)
Well, I brought it the first two times and didn't use it, and didn't bring it the third time and definitely needed it... so make of that what you will haha!
The albergues have laundry spots. Usually hand wash/hang to dry, occasionally you'll come across machines. All fine and dandy unless it's cold and pouring rain every day, in which case I opted to not wash my stuff very much because it would always still be cold and wet the next morning haha
I am going to break the Camino up into 2 trips of 20 days each (all I am able to do work wise) 2018 & 2019. Is this a good idea or rather just walk the last part? I do not really have a strong urge to "have" the passport and say I have "walked" the route. More doing it for the fun of it. Any views?
I love your videos, keep up the great work! You have, in fact, inspired me to start releasing my own Camino videos (ruclips.net/user/johnroyYHZ)! I was wondering, how did you originally hear about the Camino?
Ha, I just found this comment, it went to my spam folder! You're killing it with your videos. I first heard about the Camino when I was 10 and my dad went and walked it! So I pretty well grew up knowing about it.
So glad to see this video today! After following your travels, I have chosen fall of 2017 for my first Camino. I am pleased to be able to thank you for all the help you have given me in getting ready, You are a true encourager.
Thanks for the kind words Roy! Congrats on taking the plunge! Buen camino.
Your videos are brilliant Lindsey. Keep them coming when you can :)
Thank you Timothy!
Lindsey!!! I just came back from my first Camino and I just wanted to thank you for being such an incredible resource!! The group I went with was vastly impressed with how prepared I was in packing. Thank you so much!!
Haha that's wonderful feedback to hear! You're welcome!
Lindsey,
Great to see you in a new video. Great advice as always.
I recommend your series to folks who talk to me about the Camino.

My experience in Sarria was the same. I think so many new ones have opened that currently supply exceeds demand if you find the right ones! Cheers
Thank you, this is very helpful. Planning for Mid sept. 2018, and was concerned bc people were saying it's busy.
Love all your videos. Followed your packing and other recommendations when I hiked from St Jean de Pied de Port to Santiago. Kept my pack down to 15 lbs. I now look forward to your adventures in this part of the world. Thank you from Vancouver Island BC

Thank you Lindsey, very helpful !
Great to see you back with a video. BC is definitely the place to be for outdoor adventures. Look forward to you sharing your's. Happy Trails
I agree! Getting into skiing again this year and it's awesome! Cheers

Chris has a good point, consider doing an alternate route if solitude is a priority for you. :)
Great video! Very good advices, very very helpful. Thanks! When will you be back in the Caminos?
Awesome videos. I am also in Vancouver and also planning to do similar videos but on a series of long walks. Cheers Lindsey.
Where’d you go it’s been a few years :)

Do I need a sleeping bag if I am walking in April?
I was going to ask the same. It's been a year and still no one answered your question? Hope you found out another way.

VENUS LIN not a stupid question. I suggest googling Thinx. Buen camino!
Lindsey how many days was your camino when you did the French way?
32 days when I did the full thing!

Go for it!

Great videos
Thinking of doing the camino next year
Have you done the West Coast Trail
Thanks from a fellow Vancouverite
Nice, I'll be doing the WCT next year, might be my next videos! Cheers
Hi
I am planning to do my first Camino starting from France in January 2021. So wanted to know whether it will be winter there as I am from India
Yes, better wait till april
where do you do laundry?
The albergues have laundry spots. Usually hand wash/hang to dry, occasionally you'll come across machines. All fine and dandy unless it's cold and pouring rain every day, in which case I opted to not wash my stuff very much because it would always still be cold and wet the next morning haha
sounds like a smelly walk sometimes haha
@@bathedinridicule I hate dirty sweaty clothes. Will have to wash them everyday even if they stay wet.
When you going to upload some new vids!!! Cmon go again in 2017!
No Camino on the horizon, but maybe more videos!
I am going to break the Camino up into 2 trips of 20 days each (all I am able to do work wise) 2018 & 2019. Is this a good idea or rather just walk the last part? I do not really have a strong urge to "have" the passport and say I have "walked" the route. More doing it for the fun of it. Any views?
Walk the whole route in 2 trips
Shes stunning. RIP hun...Sad meow
RIP ???
I want to do the route to meet a young lady who is religiously beautiful.
