I also had the fear of developing binge eating disorder but what I found is that if I actually just let myself eat what I really want there comes a point where I don't want it anymore. It took a lot of challenge and repeating fear foods but the extreme hunger phase definitely does pass, you just have to have blind faith and trust the people that share their lived experiences.

@Mina Yakhdani it took about 6 to 9 months for me. I still get days where I want more food now but my weight gain has slowed down a lot. Now I can eat what I want and not really gain much anymore

This video really just reassures me so much that my recovery is valid. I originally came from Amalias podcast and i love it and her sooo much but to hear and watch 2 people discuss recovery who've been through it just really makes me so happy and the fact that you guys are talking about things that don't have enough light hence the "ideal" recovery body. Thank you so much what you guys do is amazing and is the main reason I'm still choosing to recover!

I never heard about this quasi recovery but it just might be where I've been stuck for a couple years now !!! After 15 years of bulimia, I have now stopped purging for almost 1 year, gained some weight but still extremely food focused, and scared of my appetite, don't want to gain more weight, constantly thinking about food..
Thank you for this insightful video

The other day I left Mc Donald's fries on the table... I LITERALLY FORGOT IT LOL! I never forget about fast food (let alone mc donalds) because it's my favourite fast food restaurant and their fries are delicious lol. So it sat there for hours and went cold. Later on I walked past it and saw LOL. That's when it kicked in, holy shit this all in process is working! I've never let a fry or a nugget or any leftovers go to waste from Mc Donald's because I love it so much haha.

In regards to social media stirring up discontentment and body comparison, Becky do you think that being fully recovered makes you completely immune to this danger of social media? Or is it something we can expect to have to be careful about for the rest of our lives because it's inherently dangerous? How do you handle social media feed in your own life, in regards to the diet culture/body ideals/thinness promoted there?

To be honest it doesn’t phase me, I’m just not interested it any of that anymore. When I see people still on that train I feel so grateful that I hopped off.😌

@@beckyfreestone9908 I wonder if that amount of unconcern will grow in time? I am definitely far less bothered than I used to be by diet culture but it still does bother me some. I still immediately skip over any weight loss talk/ads/videos just to keep myself safe for now. But if I accidentally see one it doesn't affect me too badly. I only just have started feeling like I am fully recovered this past month or two.

@Mina Yakhdani Sure thing! Warning, long comment ahead 😂 The first few months were the absolute hardest part for me, so be encouraged - once you make it through your current stage, it will get easier. What I did to rewire my brain towards better body image was to listen to recovery videos from Becky, Tabitha, Elisa and Kayla on repeat for *hours* every day. I would put in an earbud while I did other things and listen to them speak the truth. I would write down the truths I most wanted to remember and tape them up around my house. I read Elisa's book Brainwashed twice, Tabitha's Neural Rewiring book twice, and More than a Body by L. Kite was a major game changer. I made sure that all my actions were helping me rewire as well. I ate to mental hunger every single day. I cut out most social media. If I was scared of looking at my reflection in a mirror, I put a mirror in a place where I'd see myself many times a day. If I was scared of seeing photos of the new, bigger me, I'd take a daily photo and look at it over and over until I wasn't so scared. I put Reuben paintings of beautiful women with lots of body fat as my phone background to remind myself that our current culture doesn't have the final say on beauty standards. Basically I lived and breathed recovery for many months. The first 4 months were the hardest I think (I had terrible body image 95% of the time), and it gradually began to get easier from then (I now have neutral or positive body image 85% of the time, and a really bad body image day is very very rare now). You can do it!!!

@Mina Yakhdani yes, my belly got bigger faster than anything else, like I was 5 months pregnant. I couldn't even wear my maternity clothes from past pregnancies! What ended up happening for me is that I gradually gained weight all over my body to where I look much more proportional now and my weight has been stable for a year now. I haven't lost any weight or noticed it redistribute, although that could still come in the future. My belly is still biggish and to be honest I don't love the way it looks, but I'm learning that I don't have to like the way I look in order to feel good about myself as a person! More Than a Body helped me the most with that mindset.
(I'm 20 months in from the start of my recovery, if that helps)

One of the most hurtful things you can do is comparison. I'm sure both of the specialists in this video would say the exact same thing. Comparison does NO ONE favours.
There is beauty in everyone and remember beauty, in some ways, is based on what society decides it is.
