People will ship literally anything, but explanations for the non illegal ones: Kinkajou and Winter- Kinkajou is mentioned to have a crush on him and its even more blatant in the graphic novel. Winter mentions thinking rainwings are really cool and that he’s jealous of how carefree they are. Their personalities clash enough for people to find it interesting and the means are there for a relationship if you wanted to interpret it like that Darkstalker and Fathom- Darkstalker’s descent into madness didn’t stop people from shipping him with Clearsight, even though what they had was way worse than what he had with Fathom. They have scenes together and are close before darkstalker does his thing Umber and Qibli- Umber mentions having a crush on him and finding Qibli cute. We have gotten no canonical mlm couples in the series so people love using this one in particular, since it could have genuinely been a thing Shipping any of the dragonets of destiny together is really weird due to them being treated like siblings imo, so it goes in the “no” bucket

Personally, I believe Winter/Kinkajou is a thing because Winter fans who are sick of the love triangle try to pair him up with someone else, and Kinkajou is the only other one he has any real positive interactions with. It's not my most favorite ship, but it doesn't really contradict cannon (for the most part he's indifferent towards her, and indirectly says she's a friend in the Book 10 epilogue), so I don't hate it with a passion. It's just kinda mid.

Considering it was over two thousand years' worth of generations i don't think they're closely related enough *at all* for it to really matter, to be honest. I mean- that would be like.. over 50 human generations, and dragons become adults at 8, so that's likely more than 50. We don't know the average age for dragons to start having dragonets so it's a rough estimate using the average of 28 for humans, which is definitely way higher than what it would likely be for dragons. TL;DR, they're so distantly related that there's practically zero blood between them.
Also, using this logic the whole night wing population is distantly related. There are about 200 nightwings, as they are the smallest tribe. Getting this number from book five when sunny describes about how many nightwings she sees
TL;DR? If a ship already exists for a character, don’t make another one. And if one character likes another character, but it’s not the same the other way around, don’t ship it. So a ship like Umber & Turtle is dumb because Turtle & Kinkajou exists. But furthermore, Umber & Turtle were more like BROTHERS.

(Also the bologna that is the love triangle and Moonbli shippers are fining other ships) Sunani: Now, I understand that this can be seen as weird in some peoples eyes, as they seem more of siblings. But it's ever actually directly stated that everyone else except Clay sees them as siblings. (If it is, please correct me) And in cannon, Clay was originally going to like Glory, with no mention of the story changing. So I'm assuming the fandom saw no problem with this. (the whole sibling thing) And once again their interesting personalities would clash with each other. (I dont really like diving into shipping, but i felt an unearthly desire to type this)

And I know when it gets too far, like I don't ship Dune X Six-Claws any more and I don't ship Fathom X Darkstalker or Moon X Darkstalker for example.

I kinda ship winter and kinkajou bc kinkajou has the funniest, slightly cringe crush on winter and I think their dynamic is goofy and cute, but it’s mostly me trying to get away from the love triangle. I can’t even say I like qibli or winter as characters anymore without people being like ‘but do you like moonbli or winter watcher?’

Considering it was over two thousand years' worth of generations i don't think they're closely related enough *at all* for it to really matter, to be honest. I mean- that would be like.. over 50 human generations, and dragons become adults at 8, so that's likely more than 50. We don't know the average age for dragons to start having dragonets so it's a rough estimate using the average of 28 for humans, which is definitely way higher than what it would likely be for dragons.
TL;DR, they're so distantly related that there's practically zero blood between them.
Also, using this logic the whole night wing population is distantly related. There are about 200 nightwings, as they are the smallest tribe. Getting this number from book five when sunny describes about how many nightwings she sees

If a ship already exists for a character, don’t make another one. And if one character likes another character, but it’s not the same the other way around, don’t ship it.

The only two I see as kinda fine is Winterjou and Sunami (And kind of umbli).
Winterjou: It is stated in the books that Kinkajou kind of has a small crush on Winter and Winter thinks that Rainwings are cool and is envious on how carefree they are, and the fandom thinks that their personality clash makes for an interesting ship. (Also the bologna that is the love triangle and Moonbli shippers are fining other ships)
Sunani: Now, I understand that this can be seen as weird in some peoples eyes, as they seem more of siblings. But it's ever actually directly stated that everyone else except Clay sees them as siblings. (If it is, please correct me) And in cannon, Clay was originally going to like Glory, with no mention of the story changing. So I'm assuming the fandom saw no problem with this. (the whole sibling thing) And once again their interesting personalities would clash with each other.
