  • In this video, Lastadventurer explores a beautiful cave known as Tytoona cave. It got this name because it sits halfway between two Pennsylvania cities known as Tyrone and Altoona!
Throughout the adventure, we talk about various things including a cave diver named Roberta Swicegood who sadly lost her life in this very cave back in the 80s as well as a personal story from a time I got lost in the cave myself!
One of the things that makes this cave unique is the spring that flows through it. The water is crystal clear and always flowing at varying levels depending on the time of the year. To top that off, this cave is open to the public and you can visit it any time! Who knew such a gem could be sitting here, right in central Pennsylvania?

I erroneously said that the caver went past the log jam and dived, but she actually entered from the other side of the cave (Arch Springs) and began her dive there.
If you’re curious about this story, Google Roberta Swicegood, Tytoona Cave 😃

We went into a cave once and got all down in the water and wet and didn't think about how it was gonna be when we got out of the cave and all those wet clothes froze to our bodies. Definitely good call not going in the water this time but you should definitely bring a set of clothes to change into after you get back to the entrance and full send it over the logjam cuz I wanna see what's back there.

I’ve had that happen before too hahaha, winter of 2021, it felt warmer after I took my frozen layer of clothes off when I left the cave - such a weird experience feeling warm in 20 degree weather hahaha.
But thank you, I appreciate you commenting as you guys are one of my inspirations for these types of videos!! Love your vids!
But I can’t wait to go back, this is definitely a gem for Pennsylvania.
If you guys are ever in the area, shoot me a message on one of my socials and I’d be glad to show you a couple caves!

Been there. Would love to see what's beyond the log jam where you had to stop. Maybe mid summer when water is low?

why didn't you go all the way, was it because of the 'voices' tripping you out? hahahahah. I don't blame you but look forward to seeing more of this cave someday

Hahaha yes, maybe it was the voices… 😂

The main reason was because to the whole way to the back, you have to go through waist deep water (sometimes lower or higher depending on how much it has rained recently) and being almost winter in PA, it’s been pretty cold out and I didn’t want to get wet haha.
Thank you for your comment! I am excited to make the second part when it warms up 😄
I got a cool abandoned railroad tunnel video coming soon! Stay tuned for that!

@@lastadventurer lol. Amazing and Beautiful 😇 makes me wonder if it's ancient and just weathered. It's quite amazing how exact that face and wavy body is 🙂 I'm in southern Maine and got a himiway long range ebike. I'm hoping to find caves around here that not many, if any have explored. Southern Maine is untapped territory, not even sure anybody's ever looked around here tbh. There are a couple well known caves, but nothing too spectacular. Nothing new for a long time. Nothing in my area especially, and the rocks in the woods near the river in my backyard, look part of something bigger that may be a part of something underground 🤷🏼
      🎄Happy Holidays too🎄
Are there methods to discovering, aside from just searching? And specific maps?

@@SensiProductionzBlindDogVideosI agree!! That’s awesome you’re in Maine though, I’ve never been there yet but I want to explore that region! Acadia looks absolutely amazing!!
That must be awesome to live in an area that is so remote and unexplored!! But as for finding caves, I would highly recommend you look into joining what’s called a “grotto.” Essentially, they’re caving clubs that have chapters all over the country that you can join for a small fee. They always welcome new people - beginners and experienced alike. I don’t think there’s any in Maine, but check out Vermont grottos since you’re so close.
Another to find caves is to visit your local library and see if they have any publications about caves in your area. For me, I was able to find a book before that listed a wide variety of caves in Pennsylvania.
As for maps, typically unless the cave is well known, you will have trouble finding them online and your best bet will be in books.
Also, don’t forget to check out local college libraries as well - there’s a chance they will be more likely to have books about caves.
But above all, make sure you cave safely. I didn’t practice all of the safety precautions I should have in this video, but at the bare minimum, I’d recommend a helmet, three sources of light (multiple batteries), a friend, and let someone know the exact place you are going and when to expect you back.
Happy holidays to you as well and thank you for commenting and watching 😄🎄

    Really? you’re the LAST adventurer😯?
… Well I suppose the advantage of that is that whatever adventurous places you go to any remaining last minute excess adventurers will either no longer be there or just leaving. There is that - it will be just you and some step pyramid or forgotten temple.
Also the gear aftermarket would be fairly sweet, I imagine the penultimate adventurer must’ve been pretty keen to dump his stuff on that last person actually constituting an aftermarket. It appears to come with the territory that as soon as you buy a bit of used kit - you automatically earn the complimentary title of “Lastaftermarketer”.
A time may come where this years fancy new anorak will be viewed as we now view 80s skiing suits, but if you’re the only person in The Lost Swamp Of Kings, I guess never mind that.
As I write this, I realise that should the end of adventures also entail an end to people imagining adventures, then fantasy, scifi or speculative fiction are dead as genres unless YOU take it upon you perpetuate them. Heavy lies that crown
    😓.
Further - since all of us humans have some kind of date of expiry, if any adventure on your part could potentially be the last EVAR, it seems kind of important in terms of the legacy that they’re all pretty damn good ones! BUT if people stop adventuring or dreaming about it - will they want to read or hear about it? Will all the adventure story media become obsolete and made into cheap housing? What will be the fate of the last adventure channel, in a world of no adventure 😬?
    Questions abound!
Like predominantly - WHY DID EVERYONE ELSE STOP ADVENTURING ALL OF A SUDDEN??? 🤔

    • @lastadventurer
      @lastadventurer  8 месяцев назад +1

Hahaha, I must say I really appreciate this comment!!!
I guess the main inspiration for me when I came up with the name is that I feel like adventure is something that is slowly being lost in the modern day and I feel like people are staying in their comfort zones too much and not getting to experience the world for what it is and everything it has to offer. I just want to inspire anyone and everyone who watches my videos to follow their dreams above everything and to never lose the sense of adventure they carry within.
      Thank you for watching!
      😃

@@lastadventurer I fully agree with you. Let’s endeavour to not make you the last then 😄👍I try to spend one to two months alone in the arctic every summer on a deserted island living off spearfishing, a bag of rice, a bag of onions and garlic and a bag of lime and lemons and shit I find. I’ll try to keep it up and hey - between us we may just have increased the aftermarket potential by 50% in two days. Makes me hopeful. Thanks for the upload ☺💪
