These are my absolute favorite kind of steam videos. Seeing steam locomotives hauling modern freight for a look at what could have been had they not been replaced. I could watch all day .
I also like the switching by hand signal. I've done some of that myself, not as easy as radio, but sometimes it's simpler, if you have proper sightlines.
Riding this train looks like it'd be like the Knox, Kane, and Kinzua Railroad - wobbly and bumpy LOL. Not complaining, because that was fun. I got to ride before the viaduct got wiped out. I might have to plan for this.
Their trips to Martinsburg are a great ride! The really bumpy part is the Claysburg Branch, which doesn't see passenger service too often. The first passenger train in 50+ years ran last year (a video which is coming soon!)
@@philadelphiasouthernproduc5759It sounds almost like the rain got into the whistle and caused some laryngitis. Sounded much better in the first clips, before whatever it is got in and plugged up half the whistle.
Pretty common for them, the steam shops are located at the opposite end of the line from the passenger trains' origin. Also near a few of their busy customers, so cars almost always have to move to/from.
@@nicholmansgarage3501 I live in Chambersburg, which id just a hop skip and a jump east on US 30... And yet I've never been to the Everett Railroad. Orbisonia, yes, but not this one. That's going to have to change... and soon.
@ELOfanatic I've been there 5 times so far and I love it. It's really something to walk up the the platform and see a uniform train - all cars the same color and lettered the same, which is how most excursions are. And every car is beautifully restored. I'd have to say it's one of my favorite excursion railroads I've ridden. I live near Kittanning, so it's not too far for me either.
The Big Boy isn't around right now to haul freight, except in very limited circumstances, such as when it helped push a stalled freight train uphill in Nebraska. It's a goodwill ambassador, meant to appear in as many places on the UP system as possible and to remind people of our history, when great steam locomotives ruled the rails; we need to remember our history. "Publicity stunt"?? I think "stunt" is the wrong word, here. The 4014 is a long-term project that took years and millions of dollars to resuscitate and is destined to be around for decades; a little more than a "stunt", I'd say. That said, using Everett Railroad #11 to haul freight, publicity stunt or not, is a good thing and worthy of attention and acclaim.
@@ericemmons3040 hahaha you think because 4014 is going to be around for years it isn't a PR stunt. UP spent millions restoring it purely because of the subsequent free publicity it would gain them over decades to come. Just look at the recent Jay Leno video on 4014 and the number of views that single video has had. That's the kind of PR that can't be bought. Primarily because it's PR that doesn't come with the negative stigma of intrusive ads popping up mid program on TV or online. Look at the videos of 4014 all over the internet and the thousands who have turned out to see it. That is the PR 4014 buys UP. That's why they did this. You seem to be ignorant of how these large corporations operate. They didn't restore 4014 because they are nice guys. They restored 4014 to make a buck. All that positive PR 4014 brings them in ways money can't buy feeds back into the UP cashbook by customers having seen 4014 thinking of trying UP for their freight needs. A consideration those potential new customers wouldn't have given UP if it wasn't for seeing 4014. An encounter that put UP in the back of their minds. This is what is known as the Halo Effect. The cognitive bias of the positive feelings these people experience seeing 4014 translates into them seeing UP as a whole with the same positive feelings. You should learn some basic marketing. And perhaps a bit of basic psychology as well.

@@how_to_hallagon1 Thank you very much! Steam in general is cool, but especially hauling freight!
The fact that the Everett has no problems with getting 11’s couplers dirty now and then says a lot about this shortline
I know! I pray to the moon and the stars i end up WORKING on this one or another steam preserve that feels the same way 🙂🚂
Strasburg does it too with 89 and 90
TVRM does it occasionally. But freight usually comes in when the engines are cooled down in between operating days.
@@jasongoodman3495They don’t use 475?
@bensipiorski6645 sometimes it depends on who they fire up🤷♂️
4:40 Guessing the fireman is gesturing at that "special" lady to get the hell off the tracks?
The special man too
Amazing footage! Quite incredible to see steam engines pulling both tourist trains and freight for the same railroad in 2024!

That's the little train that could. All who worked hard to make it happen. Congratulations ❤
Nice video. It’s great to see a steam locomotive handle some freight trains in the 21st Century. Now H&BT 38.
Cool video!
Thank you!
Great stuff. Steam revenue producers. Shows the utility of railroads and what they can do if given the chance.
In Europe, there are still a few WW2 German locomotives in use, as coal is much cheaper than diesel. Check it out.
Great shots man, looked like a fun chase! Also 4:40, I don’t understand the appeal of that kinda shot, also love the fireman waving them off lol
wow the graphics in Railroader looks really good now
SO GREAT TO SEE THIS DAY AND AGE!
Beautiful whistle!!
congrats to all that made this happen
So cool to see steam in revenue freight!
Ni e clean stack.
Great job! nice video!
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it.
Great video!
I'm alright! I made it down safely!

I'm a railfan and enjoy seeing trains but Stupid Sally and Wide Load make it bad for those of us who respect the trains and employees.
I have a feeling that later in the video I will learn who “Stupid Sally” and “Wide Load” is
Oh my goodness stupid sally and wide load are the best names! 😂😂
Nobody rides Shack's train without a ticket
@Hyce take a look
its @Hyce777
I love it! Steam locomotives doing freight work with modern freight cars! Too bad the Crab Orchard and Egyptian is not using 2-8-0 #17 anymore.
Sehr sehr schöne Aufnahmen 👍👍🇩🇪
Ehrlich!
How many loaded cars can you pull.
Awesome video.
It depends on the gradient and how often water is available
👍👍👍
What is that whistle she has in the second set of clips? Doesnt sound like her usual 5 chime.
I'm not sure, it sure is pretty tho!

Hollidaysburg PA, and the surrounding area.
