Was a Motor Officer (in Texas) for 26 years, averaging 100 -125 miles a day in City traffic. One thing I still tell folks, is to stay out of the air conditioning as much as possible. Get hot and need a break? Get you a cold drink and go stand/sit in the shade. During the hot season (all 7 months of it) I would go thru 2-3 of the 2 liter (unrefrigerated) bottles of Gatorade a day. Staying acclimated and hydrated goes a long way to being able to work in the heat. I am a big believer in ATGATT. My normal (warm weather) riding gear is a pair of 8 inch lace-up boots, blue jeans, a cotton t-shirt, long sleeved button-up cotton work shirt, ballistic nylon (mesh) jacket with armor padding inserts, a pair of gloves with knuckle protection and a (modular) helmet. People (usually someone with a LOT less clothes on than me) are constantly asking “ ain’t you hot?” My response is always the same…” yes I am….just like you. The difference is that when I sweat, it gets wicked into my clothing. When I take off from a stop, the wind pushes through the mesh jacket and damp clothes cooling me off. On your exposed bare skin, the sweat either evaporates or runs off. You get to use your sweat maybe once while I use mine over and over”. I get to live and ride in Texas……sometimes it gets hot…….but I still get to live and ride in Texas. 🫡
Awesome video! Not only did I ride through Texas in 108 degree heat I camped out for several days at Lake Meredith in Fritch, TX. Had the time of my life!
Man i did the same thing a few weeks ago, went over a hump too quick and knocked the kick stand spring off. Make it point now to have a spare! Great content sir. I feel your pain, i live in Dripping Springs, haven't rode all summer its just too damn hot.
That's a smart idea! This is actually the 2nd time I've "lost" it but have been lucky enough to find it. Can't imagine how much it would have sucked if I wouldn't have found it...
I have an issue riding in TX in the summers with high heat and humidity. Even my 20 mile commute is like riding in an airfryer. The morning commute with high humidity makes me feel like I need a shower when I get to work. Sitting at a light with the heat coming off the engine cooks.
Though I have seen your channel a time or three, this is probably the fist one I have watched. Therefore, I don't know your mechanical prowess or disaster resourcefulness. I admit I was worried when you were dinking around with your kickstand down. You survived, so kudos! Been there done that myself. Fortunately I was able to rig up a bungee cord. It worked great. I was able to detach the bungee hook from the passenger peg mounting bracket when I needed to park/get off the bike.
I live in Fort Worth Texas and the heat this summer and no measurable rain 🌧️ is horrible. I was planning on riding most of the summer but it has been just too hot to really get enjoyment to ride.
I got the Skull Riderz armored mesh shirt for summer and really like it. I took the armor out cause it would stick to me but after that it was good. Love that bike!
Great piece Sir! I had to laugh at the 72 hours. I was on a group ride from Ft. Worth to Decatur a couple of Saturdays ago. It was supposed to be a breakfast ride, but we started late and took the proverbial long way around. By the time we finished eating and started to head home sometime after noon, the temp was 100+. I was on my Sport Glide with a Pro Pad seat cushion. I don't know if the Pro Pad helped or if the gel heated up, but my ass was en fuego by the time I got home. Hat's off to you for 72 hours!
oooooh man hot buns! That's why I went with the Air Hawk pad over gel. Even if I let it sit in direct sunlight for hours, it doesn't burn your bum when you get back on.
I’ve lived down the road in Austin for several decades and the heat is no joke. Makes it hard to ride for a large portion of the summer. I was disappointed to see bikers pass you by on Lime Creek Rd without offering to help. We have to watch out for each other!
I'm in SATX and ride year round. Gotta utilize a camelbak to sip water as you ride, and for the high summer I've got one of the cooler style compcoolers to throw on the pillion, with the radiator vest under my jacket I've been able to stay nice and cool on long August trips.
If you live near a batteries plus they have a excellent battery warranty for the money. I’ve bought their Duracell motorcycle batteries for my Dyna and ultra.
I ride as well everyday to and from school and everywhere else. 🔥 Yes... Hydrate, wet your shirt and helmet down. Our group Star Yamaha tour group rides in the hear as well.
Having lived in both NY and Austin TX, I can tell you with 1000% certainty that TX blows the doors off NY if you are a motorcycle enthusiast. Your riding season at best is 7 months in NY and you could ride year round in TX if you stay hydrated during the summer months. Not even close as to which State is better for bikers. Stay travels my friends🙏
We’ve all been there, after charging the battery after the battery was almost dead and the fear of turning it off that first time… then to experience the joy when it does start back up. 😅 What riding gear do you wear and what are some tricks to stay cool in the 100+ degree weather in Texas ? I’m in the Houston area and it’s not uncommon to be 103° and 70% humidity..
its like that out here in the Mojave ... just with less humidity HAHAHAHA but yeah, its like riding in a hair dryer .. you just have to constantly hydrate .. and dont forget to rotate in some electrolytes every now and then.
I think its comical seeing guys not wearing a jacket while riding in the heat. The hot air over your body will keep you from sweating. Which is why people who live in hot climate, wear covering etc. Food for thought.
Actually, the hot air helps to dry your sweat. I wear a mesh motorcycle jacket while I ride and that helps a lot. It's better to ride with crash protection than without it. In Texas this summer, it's like riding through a hot, humid hair dryer. Yuck!
I ride every day in Texas. Just hydrate every hour during mid-day and after noon hours. You practically bake in the wind.
I did the 2023 Grand Tour of Texas! Great deal, and good excuse to ride your bike all over Texas!

Absolutely! 100% agree and I am also one of the fortunate that lives and rides in Texas.

Its rough out there! But I always tell my riding buddies, you don't have to be comfortable to create memories!

Welcome to Kingsbury. Got 10 acres out there myself. I ride every day in Texas. Have fun

I live in Dallas so I know the feeling!
I'll say that the metros get RIDICULOUSLY hot with all that concrete!
awesome video as always. Lime creek road is awesome to ride but it does suck that the shoulder drops off like that.
I got the Skull Riderz armored mesh shirt for summer and really like it. I took the armor out cause it would stick to me but after that it was good. Love that bike!

@@BikeNBird ahhhh, good to know, I may look at 1 of those. Thanks for the recommendation.
My pos Hardley kept throwing kickstand springs so I got a screen door spring from the hardware store been good ever since.

I live in Arizona when I get off work at usually 110 I ride 30 miles every day to home. In full gear every day.
You a bad man! I don’t even touch my bike doing the day 😩
Yeahhhh that's a dry heat though 😛
We’ve all been there, after charging the battery after the battery was almost dead and the fear of turning it off that first time… then to experience the joy when it does start back up. 😅

You missed the heat wave! 101? Central Texas had me commuting home in 108 degree heat. It’s like looking into a blow driver.
How did the bike perform in consistent heat over 3 days? Do you have any additional oil cooling fans or anything to cool the bike?
I bought a white mesh jacket, so much nicer for summer
Shipping containers as a living quarters now that’s cool

Horrendous weather this year in Texas
Is that a cotton t-shirt and mesh jacket you’re wearing? No wonder you’re dripping with sweat!
Yup….
Oh here’s a thought…ride at night and drink cold beer in the day in a/c duh

Meh.
I lived in Phoenix for 10 years with only a motorcycle for transportation.
that looked miserable
The advantage Texas has and particularly the residents of Texas being hot as hell, is Californians go back.
