Mariah, you said during your Genius interview that you were real curious to see what we thought of this song. Girl, it’s FIRE! So beautiful! Sharing your inner thoughts and feelings like you did in Looking In, Outside, Petals and now Portrait is not only brave, because you’re revealing the vulnerable side of you, but also SO relatable for so many of us who have dealt with similar feelings. It’s a great, great song!

This song is hauntingly beautiful. She's honest yet guarded. She's the GOAT. Imagine the pressure she faces when she enters a studio to write and record a new album, and yet somehow she manages to make it look easy when it's anything but. Caution seamlessly updates her signature sound without sounding dated or desperate. It's one of her best albums. I'd rank it behind Butterfly and Daydream.

Such a gem. It is actually a curse, that you have to be really smart and able to feel and recognize the brilliance of her talent, melodies, lyrics and emotions in a song. I think that is the reason she does not get enough credit for her work. I wish the last part ( from 3:05) lasted longer...so emotional..love u Mimi, thank you, you rock the game after all those years....and many to come;)

I'm a big fan of mariah, but I never expected that at this point os her career she could release such a good album. This is a masterpiece, the lyrics, the voice, the emotion... the best song of the album, and immediately one of my favorites of her

This album really went past our expectations. I love this song and imo it's one of her best. Her ballads are just legendary. We waited 4 years and it *really* payed off with these real instruments that are as beautiful as classical ballads of old, calming and smooth vocals, and lyrics that mean something. It's all I want out of music and we just don't get that anymore.

I only appreciated the craft of great emcees like 2Pac, Big Punisher, Chubb Rock, Masta Ace, Slick Rick, LL Cool J, Nas, Twista, Busta Rhymes, Ice T, Ice Cube, Snoop Dogg to current underground beasts like Tech N9ne, K-Rino, Akala, Lowkey, Immortal Technique and the like. I place your talents and messages alongside or even above these immortal realists. Obscure artists like Wendy Moten, B. Slade, Dina Carroll, Lalah Hathaway, Lisa Fischer, Oleta Adams etc. etc. etc. I've heard the best of the best and it's been wonderful.
All these incredible artists I've listed have been discovered through you and your music, your supreme musicianship on display throughout the years was too hard to ignore. Never have I ever witnessed so much skill in one being (except maybe Michael). It really made me appreciate the effort, the means in which you conquered the art of singing/songwriting. Opening my eyes, setting aside my ignorance for only focussing on lyrical content/delivery found in rap music or the obvious 'jack of all trades' skill-set on display of a mere entertainer.
You are the personification of a vocalist and beyond that... strip away the mask and what is left is a deeply sweet and respectful human being residing inside you and I thank you dearly, for everything...
PS. I got so caught up writing a meaningful post, I forgot to mention the exquisite likeness of that Stevie Wonder cue from 'You And I' in the beginning.

It's not just her voice and the timeless ways she her music contributes to the fight to keep real R&B alive, it's also the fact that no matter who you are or how hard or soft you may think you are, all of her lyrics are so blissfully and painfully relatable. Every song that I've listened to on this album so far has given me the chills. Chills of nostalgia and chills of somoething that almost all of today's music has failed to give me....... SELF-REFLECTION AND SELF-REALIZATION.

So I’ve been listening to her since I was like 8 and now I’m 17. Listening to her progress and change over the years but still keep her signature feel is making me cry. Mine too! I'm constantly playing her albums. I have all her CDs and some CD singles in order and I'll play them in order cuz they're all so good. Only artist I listen to all her songs on all her CDs and not skip or get tired listening to.
