    -----
This video takes us up from Sheffield to one of the most important junction stations on the network, that being Doncaster railway station. A large, 9-platform DfT category B regional interchange, it was first constructed in its present state in 1850, replacing a temporary structure built two years earlier, who's former location was about 450 yards to the south of the existing station.
    -
Between 1850 and 1873, the station had two main platforms, with loop lines to each platform diverting off the main running lines. It was rebuilt to its current configuration in 1938, where the east-side platform was converted into an island platform, creating a fourth running/through line.
    -
The station has been through numerous modifications since then. In 1976, a project to refurbish passenger facilities was completed at a cost of approximately £125,000 (£1,127,575 in 2024). Later on in 2006, the new Frenchgate Centre shopping centre was built, and a direct connection via footbridge was built in the station.
    -
In 2015, construction of an entirely new platform, Platform 0, was commenced on what used to be cattle dock sidings. It's used by terminating Northern Trains services to places like Hull and Scarborough, allowing them to entirely avoid the main ECML portion of the station, thus enabling more services to pass through per hour. Since 2019, potential plans have been noted as to build new platforms on Doncaster's western side to increase capacity, this being the side with the extensive sidings.
    -
Next to these sidings is Doncaster Works, established by the Great Northern Railway in 1853; up until 1867 it undertook only repairs and maintenance to steam and eventually diesel rail stock. Nowadays what portions remain are operated by Wabtec, who carry out services such as carriage refurbishment.
