Such a rare appearance of Tony Leung outside movies. You're lucky to have him as the cover and interviewed him. He seems down to earth considering all of his achievements.
Tony represents the best of Hong Kong days past- his amazing career and success is due to his immense talent, but also the way he was able to achieve that by growing up in the environment of Hong Kong in the 70's, 80's, and 90's which promoted freedom of individuals, especially within the arts and culture, which unfortunately we know will never be the same. With today's young generation growing up in today's HK, I doubt any young person can achieve true success in the entertainment industry like before. Nowadays, Asian global entertainment success comes more from S. Korea.
For the west, sure but not necessarily for the rest of Asia. In recent years, HK has a homegrown boy group, Mirror and they are slowly gaining traction. Times did an interesting article on them and what they represent in the current climate. So that'll be interesting to see.
I'm not trying to be confrontational, but you sort of contradict yourself. If you think the success of Hong Kong's golden age of cinema is due to the freedom of individuals, then by the same logic, South Korea should not be succeeding today. Its acting and music industries are some of the most manufactured, least "free" scenes in the world, not just Asia.
@@HansYuan I think it should be put this way, for 'freedom of individuals', she might wanted to mean the freedom of speech, expressing, creation. So creativity can flourish, with less censorship and these are so important preconditions for the industry.

Tony Leung is just a classy actor. His experience and reputation in acting is well seasoned and the world is only just ready to see him whereas his talent was already ready for the world to see.
Tony Leung is such an incredible actor - a naturally talented person who then spent decades working hard to make himself better. He really speaks with his eyes. Whilst I'm so so glad he's finally getting more recognition outside of his films in Asia, I'm still happy that we've had the chance to appreciate him all this time.

Omg I remember I had such a crush on him as a 10 yr old watching him play the heroes in TVB roles. He's just as charismatic as I remember him, 30 years later
The video title blew my mind. I’ve seen so many of his films and his long career, that I forget it’s all mostly international fame. Most Westerners have no clue who he is, which is crazy. Man’s a legend.

Ah.. i remember watching all his drama series long time ago. The first one I watched was “Police Cadet” and I loved and still love the theme song. He was so charismatic then, and he still is. What a wonderful gem to appreciate through the decades.
I first saw him as a police cadet and also as Wei Xiaobao in drama series. One epic film I remembered was the Five Tigers featuring the five TVB Tigers. Of course Infernal Affairs was also a great film.
