Omg. Chunsu is still alive. He has the longest role in this series. From young DongYi untill DongYi's sons grew up and became a king he's still there. Love this story. Brilliant from casting up to costumes.
The little girl at the end representing that anyone can be like Dong Yi and everyday there are people like her that climbs to the top despite who they are. Dong Yi and the King walking in the meadow represents that they finally got to be together like the King dreamed. This is the after life that they are in.
진짜 내 최애 드라마 초딩때 보고나서 푹 빠질때는 1년에 5번은 돌려보고 1년에 한번씩 보고있는데 역사왜곡이 있지만 그래도 스토리도 탄탄하고 전통한복의 기품과 우아한 한복이 자태도 너무 예쁘고 지금 사극을 통틀어서 제일 예쁘게 나왔다고 생각함 개인적으로... OST도 너무 좋고 배우들 연기도 너무 좋았다 몇 십년이 지나도 내 최애 드라마

Superb drama plot with very talented cast of characters be they heroes or villains,small roles or main role, and all those beautifully laid out costumes.What an amazing love story of the King & Dong Yi that grows with you from their first meeting to adventures together through trials & circumstances. A very wholesome movie to watch with a lot of life's lessons, Just shows that great movies can be made without having to portray sexual innuendoes, nudities, cussings that is so prevalent in today's movies. Thank you for the English subtitles that made it possible for us to understand Korean culture & tradition, history. Indeed, one of the best, inspiring historical drama I have watch.
At last, I finished watching all episodes. The end was great. No need for extravagant exit or studded weddings and celebration like the usual drama did. Just simply walking side by side and a warm hug was way better to end this heart-warming series. 😊😊 Haaaay my heart is full. 😍❤️
I cannot get over this story of Dong YI....dramatized in this 60 episodes historical drama that got me hooked for three days of hardly non sleep continuous viewing. I learned so much about the royal court politics of those days while at the same time falling in love with the characters of this drama series, the King and Dong Yi. I wish they wrote about her death and the kings death too...the year and cause. Korea, you have so much to share with your beautiful history. Thank you/
I can't believe i've watched all 60 episodes!!! Yay! An end to sleepless nights indeed! But it was certainly a really good drama. Nice to see comments from everyone else who think so too. I also watched Moon that embrace the sun before this and it was spectacular as well. Little Dong Yi is in that one too - i love watching this little actress! She's so adorable! The last scene resembles the fact that dong yi died first and then followed by the king, it shows dong yi walk first and the king calls her to join her, and both of them walk side by side to the heavens.
My Favorite all time historical drama!!!! Love it!!!! King Yeongjo sure was a great and wise King. But not so much of a great father or husband, which is sad.

Instead of trying to understand his son, Yeongjo was adamant on punishing him for the most trivial of errors. Everything blew up to the extent that Crown Prince Sado, was forced to die inside a rice chest for eight sweltering days. Lee Joon-ik's 2015 film The Throne is a dramatic adaptation of this story about King Yeongjo and Crown Prince Sado's relationship. If you want a more veritable source, try reading Memoirs of Lady Hyegyeong, which was written by Crown Prince Sado's wife.

In the history,Dongyi/Choi Sukbin was tended by her son when she was ill then later joined by rhe king himself when he abdicated the throne and made prince Yun as his regent...Dongyi spend her last days with the king and her son...we can say she died peacefully and happily💑💑💑..
He made the crown prince regent after the death of dong yi. He move on ihyun palace also after the marriage of yunning, 2years later he died also. In his dying breath he ordered yunning to be heir apparent. 😊
It's Dong Yi's son, clearly it said he was the 21st king of the Joseon dynasty, which means it's him, the crown prince, later king Gyeongjong (Ok Jung's son) ruled for only 4 years and died of an illness, king Yeongjo (Dong Yi's son) ruled along time very successfully, and was known as one of the greatest kings of Joseon dyanasty.

Until now, this is the best drama ever... never get tired or bored watching it from the beginning till the end, there is always tears, laughs, giggle, anger and every kind of emotions everytime I'm watching it.. I've lost count on how many times I've watch dong yi over and over again..
My first viewing of this was 2010, in Brooklyn NY, (I live in North Florida now) I have watched Dong Yi almost every year since then (even though all episodes don't seem to be included). I still shed tears as it ends, and will continue to view as much as possible every chance I get. This is at the top of my list of favorites as media goes. I love it subtitles and all and the music is priceless.
21 June 2019 This is my 9th time I just finished watching the whole eps of this drama. I just can't get enough of Dong Yi. Hands down this is the best historical drama I've ever seen in my life.
This is my 6th time watching the drama the whole way through. It never fails to bring me on a roller coaster of emotions. Thank you for everyone (cast, staff, production crew etc) for this amazing drama. It may be an older drama, but to me, it surely beats many of the new ones. It teaches you many great life lessons which we can use in modern day and in general never fails to disappoint me.
I love this Korean Royal drama... Watched it many times but still not feel bored... It teaches me on how to manage politics wisely and maintain our humanity as well... Big heart always win at the end. This film really touch my life because there are values of sacrifice, humbleness, perseverance, and more... Gamsahamnida, MBC Classic!

Dong Yi (Choi suk bin) died in 1718 King sukjong died in 1720. It looks like in 1716 she got very sick and went out out the palace to stay in Inhyeon Palace with her son, in the end of that year 1716 Yeoning Geum sent a note to Sukjong saying his mother illness had worsened in 1717 Sukjong made his older son and crown prince take over the government and in 1718 Sukjong made officially crown prince his regent and he retired from government. Dong yi died in 1718.

What a journey! I've been meaning to watch this series since last year but just got time to start watching it last week. Brilliant storyline with brilliant actors actresses, i never thought i'd been so immersed in it. Props to the whole production. A job very well done indeed!
Yeongjo was a fine king, it's a tragedy he had to force his son to die. Jeongjo, his grandson was the last effective king. The royal family was diminished steadily by greedy political families after Jeongjo's death.
This is one of the Korean dramas that I feel like watching all over again right after finishing the last episode. Thumbs up to the actor and entire production.

I'd just completed my 5th round of Dong Yi in 4 mths. Each time picked up something I missed before. It's a powerful drama and caused me to love history and did some research into King Sukjong's reign. Credit goes to the strong casts esp Han Hyun Joo and Ji Jin Hee...Dong Yi and the King. Of course not forgetting the Queen, Okjung, Chun Soo, Chief Seo, Geum, Enuch and the retainers. Wonderfully produced. Well done to the directors and producers!

I watched these 60 episodes on utube ! This is my second Korean drama - the first was the moon that embraces the sun . Am grateful to whoever uploaded these dramas and the English subtitles . I've become a kdrama addict now :p

어떻게 생각했을까. 어렸을적의 동이를 닮은 아이를 지켜보는 저 사람의 마음은. 동이를 사랑했고 지켰고 죽음까지 바라본 사람이 자기한테 가장 소중한 사람의 무덤을 찾아와 그 사람을 닮은 아이를 보는 마음이 어땠을까. 정말 단순히 드라마상의 인물이고 드라마 상의 전개였지만 동이의 아역을 다시 등장시킨건 정말 소름끼치는 전개이고 마지막 뒤돌아보는 순간에 함께 뒤돌아보는 진짜 동이. 그리고 함께 손을 잡고 천천히 느릿느릿 초원을 걸으며 이야기를 나누는 두사람. 역사가 정말로 어땠는지는 모르지만 숙종이 숙빈을 사가로 내치고 한번도 찾지 않은 이유야 아무도 모르는거 아닌가. 어쩌면 연잉군이 진짜 왕이 될 수 있도록 힘을 실어주기 위해 천민의 신분이었던 숙빈을 가까이 하지 않았던걸지도 모르고.. 그렇지만 천민이라는 신분의 벽을 뛰어넘고 역사의 기록에 이름을 남긴 숙빈이라는 인물이 현대에 와서 다시 재해석 되어 가장 아름다운 이야기를 남긴건 어쩌면 진짜 숙빈이 너무 아름다운 사람이어서가 아닐까 라고 감히 생각해본다

Until now, this is the best drama ever... never get tired or bored watching it from the beginning till the end, there is always tears, laughs, giggle, anger and every kind of emotions everytime I'm watching it.. I've lost count on how many times I've watch dong yi over and over again..
My first viewing of this was 2010, in Brooklyn NY, (I live in North Florida now) I have watched Dong Yi almost every year since then (even though all episodes don't seem to be included). I still shed tears as it ends, and will continue to view as much as possible every chance I get. This is at the top of my list of favorites as media goes. I love it subtitles and all and the music is priceless.

This is my 9th time I just finished watching the whole eps of this drama.
I just can't get enough of Dong Yi.
Hands down this is the best historical drama I've ever seen in my life.
This is my 6th time watching the drama the whole way through. It never fails to bring me on a roller coaster of emotions. Thank you for everyone (cast, staff, production crew etc) for this amazing drama. It may be an older drama, but to me, it surely beats many of the new ones. It teaches you many great life lessons which we can use in modern day and in general never fails to disappoint me.
I really really really love this drama, the cast are superb and more especially, the new king is handsome gosh..so manly! hahaha
I just done watching after 3days and nights avoiding my eyes to fall asleep 😊

Dong Yi (Choi suk bin) died in 1718 King sukjong died in 1720. It looks like in 1716 she got very sick and went out out the palace to stay in Inhyeon Palace with her son, in the end of that year 1716 Yeoning Geum sent a note to Sukjong saying his mother illness had worsened in 1717 Sukjong made his older son and crown prince take over the government and in 1718 Sukjong made officially crown prince his regent and he retired from government. Dong yi died in 1718.
Thank you for this information. :) I didn't do much research on the facts about their lives, to separate which ones are fiction in this drama. But I read some of the historical facts.

What a journey! I've been meaning to watch this series since last year but just got time to start watching it last week. Brilliant storyline with brilliant actors actresses, i never thought i'd been so immersed in it. Props to the whole production. A job very well done indeed!

4th time watching this beautiful series
I'd just completed my 5th round of Dong Yi in 4 mths. Each time picked up something I missed before. It's a powerful drama and caused me to love history and did some research into King Sukjong's reign. Credit goes to the strong casts esp Han Hyun Joo and Ji Jin Hee...Dong Yi and the King. Of course not forgetting the Queen, Okjung, Chun Soo, Chief Seo, Geum, Enuch and the retainers. Wonderfully produced. Well done to the directors and producers!

One of the best korean history dramas. I love it. I have seen this drama many times. I watched it again and I feel empty now. even though I have some ongoing dramas
at least im not alone. i never thought that finishing a drama will cost me so much empty space.

어렸을적의 동이를 닮은 아이를 지켜보는 저 사람의 마음은.
동이를 사랑했고 지켰고 죽음까지 바라본 사람이 자기한테 가장 소중한 사람의 무덤을 찾아와 그 사람을 닮은 아이를 보는 마음이 어땠을까.
정말 단순히 드라마상의 인물이고 드라마 상의 전개였지만 동이의 아역을 다시 등장시킨건 정말 소름끼치는 전개이고 마지막 뒤돌아보는 순간에 함께 뒤돌아보는 진짜 동이.
그리고 함께 손을 잡고 천천히 느릿느릿 초원을 걸으며 이야기를 나누는 두사람.
역사가 정말로 어땠는지는 모르지만 숙종이 숙빈을 사가로 내치고 한번도 찾지 않은 이유야 아무도 모르는거 아닌가.
어쩌면 연잉군이 진짜 왕이 될 수 있도록 힘을 실어주기 위해 천민의 신분이었던 숙빈을 가까이 하지 않았던걸지도 모르고..
그렇지만 천민이라는 신분의 벽을 뛰어넘고 역사의 기록에 이름을 남긴 숙빈이라는 인물이 현대에 와서 다시 재해석 되어 가장 아름다운 이야기를 남긴건 어쩌면 진짜 숙빈이 너무 아름다운 사람이어서가 아닐까 라고 감히 생각해본다
